Got any screenshots of it? I'm morbidly curious. Unless it's an unrecognizable mass of pixels ala Missingno., I guess.

Using the Fire Dragon makes everyone a floating head, as the body is just part of a background.

Oh man, Nils as a floating dragon head is hilarious. Either Fire Dragon or make him a cleric. It's an anime/JRPG tradition to dress up little boys as pretty girls, right?

I'm going to experiment with my save to see if I can come up with anything interesting for Lucy (something's GOT to work!) so I'm holding my vote a little longer...

Damn, nothing that works for Lucy from me. Just chuck him in whatever magical gap you like, I guess. He never seemed important enough to be edit-proof from what I recall.

It's not that he's edit-proof, it's that he has a custom sprite. The normal Monk sprite has short hair, like Artur in FE8. Because Lucius is so girly, his Monk sprite has long hair. Same goes with the Bishop sprite. Likewise, protomoted Raven will always be a Hero, and if I decided to hack Lloyd into my party he would probably always be a Swordmaster.

I wrote all of this already.

Anyways, just because he won't show up in battle doesn't mean Lucius can't become a physical attacker. The game reacts to characters attacking with things they don't have sprites for by acting as if you had turned off animations for that character.

I still say we should swap Lucius's and Raven's classes around - that way, even if we don't end up seeing their sprites, we can justify turning Raven into the prettiest Cleric, or at least a Monk.

Decided to do the smart thing and start advertising the Microgames in the thread title. Why didn't I think to do that before!? GEEZ.

(But seriously, this should help Microgames get some more attention.)

If I were to take a guess, this map is supposed to show players the effects of certain terrain. An almost impassable peak is separating you and the boss, the main path is littered with movement reducing mountains, and there’s a cliff for your long range units to abuse.

Oh, and that village at the top right gives you a Pure Water.

Alternatively, it could just be another way to show off why aerial units are awesome. If I really wanted to, I could finish this chapter on turn 2. But that would be a tremendous waste of experience, so I’ll have to bide my time.

Until everyone catches up, Lyn’s just going to sit around evading attacks for a tiny bit of experience.

Meanwhile, Florina duels a nearby Shaman with a mutual 60% hit rate.

Yay, Strength.

Why is this thing even here? Oh well, Florina has nothing better to do.

More level ups.

For her success at knocking down a dead tree, I let Florina kill the boss.

Chapter 7x: The Black Shadow

The point of this chapter is to teach the player how narrow passageways change how you‘ll play. It also gives the player a preview of later chapters with the race for the treasure chest.

The circled area is an enemy Soldier spawn point. Erk turned out to be able to kill them after one battle, so I parked him next to it to grind.

Like all Dragonstones, Flametongue both severely buffs Nils and acts as an absolutely unstoppable weapon. By the way, because I have to get Nils to level 7 (you‘ll see why after a while), I’ve hacked his experience to 99.

Because Lucius is coded to always show his Monk sprite in battle, and because Monks can not use Swords, having my Mercenary Lucius attack has the game act as if I turned animations off.

Normally the race to the Hammer would be kind of thrilling, but Nils was able to instantly destroy the broken wall under it giving Serra a huge shortcut.

Level ups!

This boss is probably supposed to be kind of hard, but Matthew does not care.

Serra landed the final blow, gaining another much needed Strength point.

Chapter 8: Vortex of Strategy

Once you get about halfway through the map, those circled forts will spawn Soldiers twice. And those circled troops are all holding Reaver weapons, so be careful.

This map’s main lesson is that Ballistae are as inaccurate as hell.

Also, Archers are weak to dragon fire.

Despite Lucius’ new class, he still has high Resistance.

serra you are the worst thief ever

Level up montage go!

This village gives up a free Lancereaver.

Okay, Slayer weapons. These things were significantly nerfed in FE7; instead of doing x3 damage to their targeted type, they only do x2. This is a bad thing because Slayer weapons are really freaking heavy. It’s alright here since Yogi has crap for Speed, but later on the inability to double attack or effectively dodge makes Slayers exceedingly useless.

Chapter 9: A Grim Reunion

(HP: 70%, Str: 45%, Skl: 40%, Spd: 20%, Lck: 30%, Def: 35%, Res: 35%)

Wallace is technically our first prepromote (on Normal mode you’re forced to promote him, unless you know the trick to avoid it of course), and he’s pretty good sign of what’s to come. Wallace’s growths are all pretty poor, but his solid base stats can help mitigate a few bad level ups.

Anyways, I would actually recommend turning Wallace into a Cavalier. He can immediately promote into a Paladin, and on the map where you get him back after the time skip he’s basically screwed if he hasn’t promoted yet.

Hmm... Wallace the Cavalier sounds okay to me.

Truth be told, I'm not really as interested in the prepromoted units as much as the others. Aside from Pent, Karel/Harken and Jaffar (who start out ludicrously powerful from the word "go"), they just aren't as interesting to train since they're stuck exactly the way they are from the moment they join (i.e. with terrible stats) to well onto the end. Low growth characters are boring.

EDIT:

I am endless amused by just how broken Fire Dragon Nils is. Even better is the fact that having 0 Str actually balances him out somewhat; 20 dmg and guaranteed doubling hits about as hard as an end-game promoted unit like Raven or Dart does. As opposed to, y'know, an unstoppable juggernaut of fiery death and world-ending might.

It's clear that while FE7 was being developed Mamkutes were originally in the design; FE6 had one, Nils/Ninian have the stats for it, and one of the descriptions for Flametongue claims that it's for "Mamukoot" only.

They just decided to take it out for plot reasons. Also because Bard/Dancer has a lot more utility.

I don't care what Wallace is because anything you make him will be the best class. After all, this is Wallace, the greatest knight in all of Caelin (wherever that is)!

Yeah sure, Cavapaladin is fine. Anything that could make Wallace interesting. I always just take away his weapon and make a Wallace out of him.

Positioning a ranged person behind the Wallace is a pretty good XP farming method. Serra nearby to heal up 1-2 hp every turn can work if she's not needed elsewhere.

Why did Tanto choose such an obnoxious way of transcribing text...

Those circled areas are four time (?) enemy spawn points. The ones in the mountains spawn Brigands, the one in that forest spawns Cavaliers, the top left one spawns Soldiers, and the top right one spawns Archers. Besides being an experience farm, this map’s main gimmick is Fog of War, which sets in once the player’s third turn starts. To help the player out, that nearby village gives a free Torch.

Anyways, level strategy. At this point the enemies have increased in strength enough that I can’t comfortably kill them in one battle, but they’re still weak enough that I safely split up my army into a group heading to the boss and a group just dicking around getting experience. Lucius and Wil can safely beat up the spawning Brigands and Florina’s just as capable against the Soldiers.

Wallace immediately promotes. Every class has a different promotion bonus, but a Paladin’s is definitely the best .

Anyways, time for another level up montage.

Paladin Wallace looks kind of odd, but damn if he isn’t strong at this point.

It’s definitely worth it to lure Eagler into using his Hand Axe.

Chapter 10: The Distant Plains

The circled area is a Cavalier spawn point, and that village gives a free Energy Ring.

This may be the final chapter of Lyn‘s Tale, but it‘s still a tutorial. Today’s lesson? Rain. Once the player’s third turn starts, rain starts pouring down for two turns, and after it stops it‘ll just start again eventually. While it rains everybody’s movement (not counting Nils) is severely restricted, so this chapter can take a while. Or at least that’s how it works in theory, but the objective for this map is to Seize the castle.

This means I can once again use Florina to skip the majority of the map. Meanwhile, everyone else is just going to press onwards.

By the time you get to this chapter, Lyn should have access to three weapons that are all effective against Lundgren. The Lancereaver is the safest option, as it lowers Lundgren’s Hit rate dramatically. Meanwhile, the Mani Katti does more damage and has a much higher Critical rate, though it also has a lower Hit rate. The Armorslayer is basically just the Mani Katti without the Critical rate, making it useless.

The correct answer is to lure Lundgren into equipping his Javelin then going nuts with the Mani Katti. (Not really. The real correct answer is the Lancereaver; I only did this because I had a save state to fall back on.)

Kind of funny how Lyn’s last level up for her tale was her worst.

Florina got a good level up though.

I have no clue what the hell this Shaman thought he was going to be able to do against a dragon. As a final note, before this chapter ended I wasted two turns in order to use the Energy Ring on Matthew and the Angelic Robe on Lucius.

Now the real game starts. Because Tanto took Eliwood’s Tale, I’ll transcribe Hector’s Tale’s exclusive dialogue.

Oh, and despite the fact that Hector’s Tale can be considered the “true” tale, Eliwood’s still the main character. As the final boss will lament, Hector was an unexpected variable.

I do love how they didn’t even bother to fix this for Hector’s route though.

Chapter 11: Another Journey

A month has passed since word came of Marquess Pherae’s disappearance. Rumors and speculation run rampant throughout Lycia. The head of House Ostia, Lord Uther, takes no apparent interest.

The marquess’s younger brother is considered odd by the populace. He and Marquess Pherae’s son, Eliwood, are fast friends. A hot-blooded youth, he cannot ignore his friend’s plight. Marquess Ostia’s younger brother, Hector. He would one day be a courageous general, a steel warrior to be feared. The path he chooses will test him to the limits of his strength.

Hector: Brother! Brother!! Where is he!? He‘s here, isn‘t he?

Oswin: Lord Hector! Calm yourself!

Hector: No words, Oswin! Just move!

Uther: That‘s enough, Hector! What is the meaning of this?

Hector: You know full well! The disappearance of Marquess Pherae!

Uther: We‘ve discussed this time and time again. This matter is none of Ostia‘s affair. We have no reasons to involve ourselves. It would be folly to do so.

Hector: Eliwood‘s father is missing, for goodness‘ sake! We know that Marquess Laus is connected in some way. I say we use Ostia‘s might to end this mystery and find the truth!

As you can tell, Hector’s Tale assumes you’ve already beaten Eliwood’s Tale. As such, the writers weren’t shy about dropping spoilers.

Uther: Calm yourself, you fool! An invasion would be madness! Lycia can ill afford the chaos such an action would bring. Surely even you must understand that!

Hector: Bah… I understand all too well, Brother! Stay there on your throne. Sit there until it rots beneath you! I will do this alone!!

Oswin: Lord Hector! You should watch your tone…

Uther: Peace, Oswin. Let him go. There‘s no reasoning with him when he gets like this.

Oswin: ……

Hector: Matthew! Blast it! Where could he be?

Matthew: I‘m right here.

Hector: You… You‘re not a wraith. Stop skulking in the shadows like one.

Matthew: Hm? A wraith? And here I thought I was a spy. Be that as it may. As milord ordered, here are your travel rations and your beloved axe. And I‘ve purchased the silence of some royal guardsmen. You‘re free to slip out the rear entrance and vanish.

Hector: Well done, Matthew. Try not to let my brother discover my absence too quickly.

Matthew: What? I thought I was going with you.

Hector: You‘re a bigger fool than I‘d imagined! Did you think I would trust my brother‘s spy? Who knows when you would turn me in for some favor! Where I go, I go alone!

Matthew: Shh! You keep on shouting, and you‘ll go nowhere! Every guard in the palace must have heard that!

Hector: Enough… Do not try and follow me!

Matthew: I did not imagine you would find me so untrustworthy. Professional hazard, it seems. Watch yourself, young master.

Matthew vanishes.

Hector: Huh? He… He gave up too easily. I don‘t trust him… The time has come… I‘ve got to get out of here and rendezvous with Eliwood. These bags! What did Matthew put in these things? This is ridiculous even if he was packing for two!

Hector: ……Come out. I know you‘re there.

Hector: Who are you?

???: ……

Hector: Too dumb to speak? Makes no difference to me. Move out of my way, or I‘ll run you through!

??? does nothing, so Hector makes good on his promise and kills him. He then notices someone with the corner of his eye and charges at him too.

Hector: Hah!

Matthew: Whoa! M-Milord! Stay your arm! It‘s me!

Hector: Who? Matthew? I was sure you were one of them.

Matthew: Well, I‘m not! I‘m one of me. And I would prefer to remain in one piece.

Hector: Your fault for jumping out of nowhere. Now tell me, what are you doing here?

Matthew: Hm? I… I sensed that something was wrong and… came to your aid.

Hector: My aid… I‘ll accept that answer for the time being.

Matthew: So, what should we do?

Hector: About what?

Matthew: About the fellows between us and the way out. I‘d say there are 7 or 8 of them. To make matters worse, they seem highly competent. I know you‘re quite confident in your martial abilities, but… I‘m not the strongest sword arm around, and, well…

Hector: If you‘ve something to say, Matthew, then say it!

Matthew: We could abandon the rear entrance. I‘m sure the royal guardsmen would be happy to aid us, and…

Hector: Never!

Matthew: That‘s what I thought you would say. All that‘s left is to avoid getting killed, right?

Hector: You can go back if you want.

Matthew: In your own words, milord, never. I‘m with you, wherever that may lead.

Hector: Right. Then let‘s give them a good thrashing and get out of here!

Alright, time to show off why Hard mode has its name.

EDIT: Hard Mode Wire's Defense is 14 and his Resistance is 4.

The picture on the left shows Wire’s stats on Hard. The picture on the right shows his stats on Normal. On Hard mode, all enemies gain an invisible level or two (yes, enemies have growth rates. They’re mostly terrible though). This includes enemies you can recruit, so it’s not all bad.

More annoyingly, all characters who were in Lyn’s Tale have their inventories reset.

Anyways, time for a LP gimmick! As you may or may not know, Fire Emblem 7 has a Support mechanic. If you position certain pairs of characters right next to each other for long enough, they can use the Support command to have a short conversation. Not only do these conversations build character, but they also make the characters perform better in battle if they’re near each other, with the boost being dependent on what level their Support is.

This sounds nice, but for some stupid reason the only way to effectively get Supports is to waste turns with your characters doing nothing. Also, characters who by all means should already have Supports with each other don’t (with one exception). To rectify these errors, I’ve hacked in the Supports I feel each character should already have, and throughout the game I’ll add to the list (you’re supposed to only be able to have up to five Supports, but you can totally go beyond that with the aid of codes). For the actual conversations, I’ll just place them throughout updates.

Anyways, back to the game. Since Matthew is no longer a Thief, I can’t open any of the doors or get that chest (It holds a Red Gem). This means I’ll have to wait for the enemy Thief to do that for me, which means waiting around until turn 6.

Conveniently enough, the Thief will drop the Red Gem upon defeat.

Hector: You‘re too good, too professional. Nothing like those idiots over there.

Wire: You‘ve no need to know, little Lord Hector. A fool like you, sneaking out of the country alone… You‘ll go missing, never to return. Your body will never be found. Tidy story, eh? Ha ha…

Hector: Tsk tsk… Looks like your luck‘s run out.

Wire: Our luck? What are you…

Hector: You see, I‘m about as angry as I‘ve ever been. I doubt that even a dozen of you could slow me down. Prepare to die!!!

Wire doesn’t have a long range weapon, so I had Hector spend a turn using the Hand Axe so Matthew could catch up.

Wire: Fuh-fuh-forgive… me… Lord… Nergal…

Matthew: Whew… That was close. Glad we‘re both all right. Come, milord, we must fly! The castle guard must have heard all the noise.

Hector: Matthew, you rogue. You knew this was all going to happen, didn‘t you?

Matthew: What else could I do? Those assassins wouldn‘t show themselves until you were alone.

Hector: I suppose… Mark my words, Matthew! You‘re coming with me. But from this point forward, you are no longer my brother‘s spy.

Matthew: Yes, milord! Shall I swear a knightly vow?

Hector: To what purpose? Your own words will hold you well enough.

Matthew: True enough!

Hector: Let us go then! To Eliwood!

Uther: He‘s gone, isn‘t he?

Soldier: Ye… Yes, milord! We are gathering men now to give chase.

Uther: Attend me. We will let him go.

Soldier: Milord?

Uther: A… Headstrong fool… (I should note that while he said that, Uther was smiling) Oooh… Cough… cough…

Oswin: Lord Uther! Are you well?

Uther: ……I‘m fine. It has passed. There is no need for concern.

Oswin: You must not rely so much on physical strength alone. It has been most trying these past few weeks. The affairs of the court have not let you sleep. You might endanger your health if you keep on…

Uther: Yes, Oswin. I understand. I will speak with a physician on the morrow. Will that allay your fears?

Oswin: Yes, my lord. I shall make the arrangements.

Uther: Oswin… About Hector… I can entrust him to you, yes?

Oswin: Of course, my lord. I will guard him with my very life‘s blood.

Quote:
Matthew: Good day, young master. How fare you?

Hector: Oh? Matthew!

Matthew: I’ve heard you’re quite strong, you know. But if there’s anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to ask. Just say the word, and I’ll swipe healing balms from our very enemies!

Hector: I might just ask for that later on, yeah.

Matthew: Say, aren’t you a bit hungry?

Hector: Hrm... Now that you mention it. Should’ve brought some rations or something, I guess.

Matthew: Leave it to me! I thought we might have need, so I packed some before we left. Here, I put it in your sack there...

Hector: That was thoughtful... ...I mean, hey! What are you doing putting it in MY pack?

Matthew: You are strong, young master.

Hector: That’s not the point! Man, and I thought my bag was heavy before... You don’t give your master extra to carry, got it?

Matthew: Ah, but you always were so generous, my lord!

Hector: I oughta... ...Man, why do I get stuck with all the lame henchmen?

Matthew: Ah, young master! Wait up for me!
Chapter 12: Birds of a Feather

Hector leaves Ostia. He moves toward Santaruz to meet up with Eliwood as quickly as possible. He encounters a mysterious group whose dark garb hide an even darker secret. Perhaps these same powers have turned their blades on Eliwood…

Hector hurries south, praying for his friend’s safety.

Matthew: Lord Hector! I have it! I know where Lord Eliwood is. He entered Santaruz not far from here.

From there, the dialogue returns to how it was in Eliwood’s Tale.

Now that I’ve finally gotten some new characters, I can end the update. By the way, I’ve decided to not let you guys change Eliwood and Lyn’s classes; I need someone to use the legendary weapons at the end.

(HP: 65%, Str: 30%, Skl: 50%, Spd: 25%, Lck: 30%, Def: 15%, Res: 35%)

Marcus is this game’s Jeigan, but unlike what you may heard from other people he’s actually pretty good. And in Hard mode, he’s essential.

(HP: 60%, Str: 40%, Skl: 50%, Spd: 60%, Lck: 50%, Def: 15%, Res: 30%)

Rebecca is basically Wil with lower Strength, Defense, and Resistance and higher Speed and Luck.

(HP: 90%, Str: 30%, Skl: 30%, Spd: 30%, Lck: 50%, Def: 40%, Res: 30%)

Lowen’s… balanced, to put it politely.

(HP: 85%, Str: 50%, Skl: 35%, Spd: 40%, Lck: 30%, Def: 30%, Res: 25%)

BEST CHARACTER IN THE GAME. Bartre will be a Hero and be used every single chapter and there is not a god damn thing any of you can to do to stop me. Okay, fine, you guys can change his class.

(HP: 90%, Str: 40%, Skl: 30%, Spd: 30%, Lck: 35%, Def: 55%, Res: 30%)

Wow, Oswin’s growth rates are much lower then I thought they were.

Make Lowen into a Brigand. He will be an example to the rest of the team of what happens when you have FAILED YOUR MASTER.

...Oh, wait, Hector's not supposed to be an insane alchemist, is he?

BARTRE THE BRIGAND BARTRE THE BRIGAND

Hero be damned, I want to see some Goddamn Kung-Fu Scream Action and Bartre's just the man to do it. Besides, Axes > Swords and the critical hit bonus he gets after promoting will help you crush the game under your heel.

Marcus: Keep him a Paladin, because meh.

Rebecca: Turn her into a Mage because Anima magic is hella useful and female Mages are downright adorable. One of my favourite classes, right after Soldier and Thief.

Lowen: Turn him into a Civilian and boot his useless ass to the curb. Oswin's a better tank than he'll ever hope to be. Failing that, make him an Knight to put those HP, Luck and Def growths to good use.

Oswin: This one's a tough one... maybe a Fighter? Archer? I'll have to think on this one.

If female mages are indeed adorable, Rebecca can go with that. Also I think we've neglected anima thus far.

Marcus should be a Valkyrie because a prepromote horsie healer would be pretty damn sweet. But if you don't want to turn him into a girl, umm... Well, another wyvern type would be cool if that looks okay.

Lowen can totally be a civilian if it won't break your game. Or a tent.

Bartre I'm thinking should be a Pirate.

Oswin really has a Knight's face but if he's gotta change I'd say Hero.

Yes. So changing my vote to this.

Unless I'm misreading something, he'll have to be raised as a Mercenary first before he'll don the shield. Otherwise, changing him immediately into a promoted unit will kill his usefulness, and hacking his stats to compensate would undermine the point of playing the game on Hard Mode.

As for Civilian, it kind of works (there's only one sprite of it that doesn't move and in battle it triggers the animation off failsafe) but I have no idea what might happen when I level Lowen up or if a cutscene involving Lowen plays.

But Hero is such a bland class for him. If you're going to best the game with Bartre, ya gotta do it in style.

It makes no sense for Bartre and Karla to be "destined rivals" if they use completely different weapons in my opinion.

Also, Hero is both my favorite class and a shit ton more reliable (Swords are a lot more accurate than Axes and that is kind of sort of really important for Bartre).
