I have to disagree; I'd rather use them to make a potentially useful and awesome unit more viable, instead of giving an unnecessary boost to one that's already ahead of the curve.

See, that works for normal stat boosters, because if a unit already has a high stat in something, it's likely that's because of their growths, and as such boosting that stat is pointless. But movement range (and Constitution) can not be boosted normally. While there's definitely an advantage in giving a low Con unit like a Swordmaster a Body Ring so they can use heavier swords, movement is something that's only best when you have a lot of it.
The way I see it, the choice is between giving a slow unit the Boots so they can catch up with the rest of your main force, or giving a fast unit the Boots so they can perform all the jobs of a fast unit (using rescue to put specific units in place, killing specific targets, getting in range for long range attacks/healing, etc) even better. |

The large size of the maps in FE6 is the big reason why Generals tend to under-perform in that game, as their speciality is more in staying in one place and soaking up hits/blocking a chokepoint than it is in rescuing NPCs or seizing bases. They're really good at walling enemies, but the fact that the maps in Sword of Seals forces you to keep moving kind of kills that usefulness, I think.
That said, I prefer giving Generals the Boots simply because their stats after promotion are monstrous. A well-trained Hector or Oswin that can keep up with the cavalry can single-handedly wreck armies. |

I never actually use generals in any of the FE games besides 7. Having low movement is one problem, but also because they're slow...in combat.
Astol- Bard, because who really cares about him? Lilina- Eh, keep her as Mage Wendy- Cavalier, just because Barth- Thief Oujay- Myrmidon |

Considering Barth's average Resistance at 20/20 is 4.6, I'd say it's pretty plausible.
Also, a nice amount of enemy growth rates aren't multiples of five. |

Haha, wow this update was late. Sorry, too busy playing Lufia DS. Er, Estpolis: The Land Cursed By The Gods.

Another huge map with a lot of things to do. The goal of this chapter is to get the chests before the Thieves. Oh, and reclaim Castle Ostia, but I don’t think that’s going to be too hard. See, Lilina made a spell tome with her journal and her blood, Dodged the arrow this Archer shot at her, Then picked it up and twisted it into a key. As soon as that Archer leaves, Lilina is heading straight for the throne. In other news, Astol is now a Bard. Quote:

I think I let Lilina escape too early. Man, the next couple of turns are going to be filled with resets. Quote:
Since I can’t change their classes yet (well, I can, but it’ll take a little too much effort), these three are going to be staying here all chapter. |

Lilina’s HP is too low for her to take on the boss, but she can still sabotage the enemy Thieves. Quote:
This corridor is a trap; the three enemies below it all have ranged weapons, so while you try to marshal your units through the hallway (which is supposed to have enemies in it, but Lilina already dealt with that), they’ll be taking potshots at you. It’s much safer to take the treasure room above. Quote:
I still don’t understand why Lilina has to be the one to select Talk. Oh shit, enemy reinforcements. I guess Wendy and Oujay are going to have to stop training. Quote:

I’m not sure if I can survive another turn without casualties, I’m going to take advantage of the fact that the goal of this mission is simply to defeat Leygance. Anyways, much to my surprise defeating Leygance did not end the chapter. Despite what the Data screen says, Roy still had to conquer the throne to win. Enemy phase level ups! Oh well, at least nobody died. Chapter 41x: The Blazing Sword Quote:
Yet another big map. If you’re wondering why some of the tiles seem to be bright red, it’s because the bottom of the screen for this chapter is always red in order to simulate heat. Quote:
I think Roy might be a bit overpowered. Quote:

Chapter 42: The Misty Isles One of the things I feel FE6 did better than FE7 is that your army actually spent a decent amount of time in every single country of Elibe. I also liked how Roy was neither clueless nor impulsive; in that regard, he was the best main character of all three GBA games. He’s also the best main character in another area, but that’s neither here nor there. Two new units this time. (HP: 75%, Str: 25%, Skl: 50%, Spd: 55%, Lck: 50%, Def: 15%, Res: 20%) Fir isn’t bad, but compared to Rutger she’s not worth using. She’s very much like Noah in that regard; good, but you get a better version earlier. (HP: 75%, Str: 45%, Skl: 50%, Spd: 50%, Lck: 25%, Def: 10%, Res: 15%) Shin, on the other hand, is the best Nomad in the game. I never use him though; I usually stick with Sue and Wolt to the bitter end because THEY CAME FIRST THEY MUST BE BETTER BLARGH. Quote:

Fir: Thief. Clarine's adorable with her pink knife and all but I think Fir would make a cute thief too.
Shin: Shaman Shaman Shaman! Yes I've tried to make someone a Shaman basically every update. |

Shin- Archer, because his horse died |

FE6’s first Fog of War chapter, and it’s one hell of a doozy. A lot of the enemies are equipped with poisoned weapons, and you need to make sure you don’t accidentally kill either Fir or Shin before you get to recruit them. Worse, the entire map is basically just a bunch of islands with one panel wide bridges connecting them. It’s very easy to end up with a large cluster of units. Quote:

This line is oddly hilarious after FE7. Quote:

Alan had a terrible enemy phase level up, but since he managed to dodge an unforeseen attack that would have killed him, I’ll have to live with it. Quote:
Alright, the boss is dead. There are still some enemies left, though, so I’ll delay ending the chapter for a bit. Today I have a special feature! I’m going to be showing just how long it takes to get a good level up with a Fire Emblem 6 character. I’ll be using Wendy, a character with good growths by FE6 standards. |

This is terrible, so I’ll have Sue burn a RN. Nope. Even worse. Nuh-uh. Terrible. *Seven RNs later* Good enough. That’s what I’ve been doing every time I get a character to level up. It is just as monotonous and time draining as it looks. Quote:
At this point I went back on to Talking Time to check which route PapillionReel did, only to get sidetracked by the Gripe thread. I proceeded to forget what I was going to do, until I suddenly remembered like an hour later. Anyways, Pap chose the Elphin Route. This means I’m contractually obliged to do the Lalum Route first. The thing that determines which path you get is which of the villages you visit. The one on the right leads to the Elphin route. The one on the left leads to the Lalum route. And if you don’t visit either, you’ll get Lalum’s route because Roy is magnetically attracted to females. Quote:

Chapter 43: The Resistance Forces (HP: 85%, Str: 50%, Skl: 30%, Spd: 40%, Lck: 40%, Def: 20%, Res: 10%) Geese is a pretty good unit, but I have a feeling Chad will quickly outstrip him with his ridiculous growths. (HP: 90%, Str: 60%, Skl: 15%, Spd: 50%, Lck: 35%, Def: 25%, Res: 5%) Remember how good Gonzales was in PapillionReel’s run? On the Lalum route, he starts six levels lower with the same base stats. Unless there’s an overwhelmingly popular idea, Gonzales is going to be a Bandit, then a King. Quote:

Geese is too awesome to be a pirate. Mercenary it is.
Gonzales...He'll need something with a better hit rate to take advantage of his low low skill, so I'll go with Myrmidon. Last edited by Refa; 07-29-2011 at 10:59 AM. |

Geese: Wyvern rider. That hair longs to be whipped around by the wind. Since "Romance Novel Cover" isn't an option here.
Gonzales: That guy as King? Egads! Only if you make up an alternate ending where he's the main character and becomes king of the world or something. |

The Western Isles are divided into three regions: Fibernia, Caledonia, and Dhia. All of them are rich with natural resources, and mining is a successful industry.
In the north of Fibernia stood Mt Ebrakhm, home to the largest mining operation on the Western Isles. Roy led his forces towards Ebkrakhm, hoping to gather some information on the bandits. The path to Mt Ebkrakhm was watched over by a small castle in the valley. Roy sent a messenger to Nord, the castle owner, to be granted permission to pass through his land. Since the Lycia Alliance Army was there on an official mission from Etruria, they didn't think that getting Nord's support would be as difficult as it was… Quote:

In any case, compared to the last one this chapter is easy: it’s just a straight march down (Ballistae are so damned inaccurate it isn‘t even worth trying to stay out of their range). Watch out for the promoted enemies though. The village gives a Swordreaver. Quote:

Chapter 44: Hero of the West Four new characters next time. (HP: 70%, Str: 10%, Skl: 5%, Spd: 70%, Lck: 80%, Def: 20%, Res: 30%) Lalum will be a Dark Dragon because all Fire Emblem dancers are secretly dragons in disguise. Haha, not really. It’s still up to you guys. But with those growths, she really would benefit from a Dragonstone. (HP: 60%, Str: 35%, Skl: 40%, Spd: 45%, Lck: 50%, Def: 15%, Res: 25%) Klein’s growths are actually a lot better than I was expecting. Anyways, I should take the time to note that what you see here is not actually what Klein’s stats will be when I recruit him; Hard Mode bonuses are only applied after the chapter starts, and it’s random each time. Because of this, Gonzales lost 1 point in Strength, Skill, and Speed. (HP: 60%, Str: 40%, Skl: 45%, Spd: 55%, Lck: 40%, Def: 15%, Res: 20%) Tate’s probably the best Pegasus Knight in the game, but that’s not really saying much. She’s got surprisingly crappy Resistance though. (HP: 75%, Str: 40%, Skl: 25%, Spd: 30%, Lck: 20%, Def: 15%, Res: 15%) Finally, Echidna. She’s at low HP in that picture because recruiting her can be a total pain in the ass. Quote:

I have to admit: A major reason I didn't play much of FE6 (I mean, apart for the difficulty due to your terrible units) is because all of the character faces looked so bland and uninteresting. Lilina was the first 'real' face, like the ones I got used to seeing during FE7/8.
And then I read this mLP and BAM! Echidna. |

Lalum- Does Dark Dragon have better stat bonuses than the other dragons? Then again, I think whatever weapon that class uses is infinite, so Dark Dragon it is. Pretty much the only way you're going to get her to be something useful besides dancer/bard is to turn her into a dragon anyways. Klein- Swordsmaster, because it'd be nice to have one now Tate- Wyvern Knight Echidna- Paladin Last edited by Refa; 07-30-2011 at 01:42 PM. |
