Oh geez I forgot to take out the gates that led to a different board! Yeah, you can see how on the ball I am at the moment.

It's a Moving Gate that connects to the Dreamlands (+1)

Diane, 11:30 a.m., February Twenty-ninth. Entering the town of Arkham, five miles north of Salem, twenty miles southeast of the state line. I've never seen so many trees in my life. As W. C. Fields would say, I'd rather be here than Philadelphia. Thirty-four degrees on a slightly overcast day. Weatherman said snow. If you could get paid that kind of money for being wrong sixty percent of the time, it'd beat working. Mileage is seventy-nine thousand three hundred forty-five, gauge is on reserve, riding on fumes here, I've got to tank up when I get into town. Remind me to tell you how much that is. Lunch was, uh, six dollars and thirty-one cents at the Lamplighter Inn, that's on Highway 1A near Bolton. That was a tuna fish sandwich on whole wheat, slice of cherry pie, and a cup of coffee. Damn good food. Diane, if you ever get up this way that cherry pie is worth a stop. Okay. Looks like I'll be meeting up with the sheriff. He'll be at Arkham Asylum. I guess we're going to go up to intensive care and take a look at that girl who's been raving about creatures at the historical society. When I finish there I'll be checking into a motel. I'm sure the sheriff will be able to recommend a clean place, reasonably priced. That's what I need, a clean place, reasonably priced.

...

Roland gains 1 clue during upkeep, bringing his total to 2.

On his way to some lodging, Roland moves 4 spaces to the General Store in order to meet the townsfolk. He will have an encounter instead of spending his money on day 1.

Question

"Sophie never did like the Historical Society..."

Upkeep: moves Fight/ Will to 5/1

Mark Harrigan marches 3 spaces over to the Historical Society with the intent to burn it down, but ends up getting sucked into a gate and spit out the Dreamlands. Mark sees Luke Robinson and gives him the bro head nod.

Ok, I'm enacting a new rule. We're throwing out turn order. If you feel you need to discuss your actions, feel free but players can post their moves at any time. You don't have to wait for it to be your turn to go.

Ursula will hike out to The Unnamable for a clue and encounter.

I assume First Player will be kept as a feature for the purpose of game elements that it matters for?

Minh is certainly smart enough to know when she's getting in over her head: she's had to juggle schedules and tasks for years. Clearly she doesn't have what she needs to make this mission a success at hand. Thus: SHOPPING.

I'm moving to the general store and using it's ability to try to buy some sort of weapon.

What's all this about gates? Jim will start his Arkham sightseeing tour off at Hibb's Roadhouse with a stiff drink.

Sorry! It's been one of those days at work.

Patrice gains +1 clue because of gate opening.

*Sigh* Guess I'm delayed again. (Speed is 1, so -1 is autofail) I'll just keep on dreaming.

Ursula Downs' speed check at 4(-2): results 4, 6. Pass.

And damn! I just took a good look at her starting draws. Ursula is loaded for bear.

Diane, I ran into the owner of the General Store. A pleasant man, but a but absent-minded. Showed me a large bag containing roughly 40 pounds of rancid meat. He offered me some money if I could drag it to the dumpster for him. Easy enough, I thought. No better way to become acclimated to this town than to put in an honest day's work.

Will = 3-2 = 1. Roll of 4 Fails

Maybe I should have gone to the motel first, Diane. I just wasn't up to the task, and I'm feeling a bit sick on top of it.

Wouldn't it make sense to burn both your clue tokens to try and get a success? You are going to lose them anyway if you fail, so you might as well put them to good use.

Looking upon the selection of wares in the general store, Minh spies the Derringer sitting, nearly forgotten, in the side of a case. This is exactly the sort of insurance she's looking for. Though it takes most of her cash, surely it's worth the peace of mind that only a firearm can bring in these troubled times.

Anyway, yeah, I'm buying the Derringer. That's basically exactly what I wanted to get out of the draw.

Also, general strategy question to you all: because of Synergy I should really get a Bound Ally next upkeep, right? Thoughts?

That sounds good to me, but it may bite us in the butt if Hastur wakes up.

I'm planning on taking the Blood Pact to help out with my low Sanity.

That's basically what I want to discuss. Hastur's stupid extra clue power makes a fight with him a bit more likely, but the Lurker's power will make the fight super hard to win anyway, if we get into it, and from my Arkham experience, the majority of Elder God fights are kind of a pointless endeavor. Which makes me feel like, why not, give myself all the advantages I can now! But I want to make sure we all agree on that before I do it. Teamwork and all that.

Also, I have no idea what the Reckoning cards do. If they affect people with different pacts and stuff in shitty ways, that might be something to take into account that maybe someone who has played this expansion can enlighten us on?

Also, am I a racist asshole if I start referring to my character as Minty? Because I've been seriously fighting that urge.

Yeah, okay, no thanks then. It does exactly what I figured it would do, which is pretty well punish you directly for taking these deals. I think I'll stay clean for now.

Ursula hesitates for a moment in her choice, but decides she doesn't need another blade. Besides, that bag of pixie dust might come in handy if she finds any golden idols sitting on pressure plates.

Patrice grabs a clue token at the Unvisited Isle.

She auto-fails the skill check for a companion.

Reminder: My ability lets me share my clue tokens with ANYONE. So if you need some to seal a gate just let me know.

ALSO: My strategy for this game, with this character, is to run around the board collecting clues. I'm just a clue bank.
