Faris - It was a tossup between her and Lenna but the summons in this update made me want a Master Summoner! (Also she's a tiny bit closer)

Lenna: Goal = White Mage Mastery! It's a little closer than Black Mage and we've got that sweet staff to play with. :3

Bartz: So much work learning the piano should be rewarded with Bard Mastery! And then reward yourself with Samurai for being a good sport.

Krile: I don't wanna stick you with all squishies so let's say Knight. Though I do want to top off Ranger and White Mage before the end...

As for weaponry: the rod, the harp, and the dagger.

I know job mastery boosts Freelancer/Mime stats a bit but I'm not clear how much. You don't have to answer now if that topic is planned for a later update but I'm quite interested in knowing.

How it works is pretty simple. Every job affects a character's stats in different ways. Once a job is mastered though, the Freelancer/Mime gain that job's highest stat.

However, these boosts do not stack. The game will only give you the highest possible boost, so if you were just after stats the only jobs you should master are Knight (highest strength boost), Thief (highest speed boost), and Oracle (highest magic boost). The only point of mastering other jobs is to get the !Commands and the innate abilities.

I'm pretty sure that Monk actually has the highest strength AND stamina boosts. Thief also gives you the nice-to-have inherent abilities of spotting hidden passages and the ability to sprint super fast.

Other jobs you might consider mastering for inherent abilities, depending on the builds you're going for, are:

Ninja (dual wielding)
Samurai (Shirahdori - 25% chance of evading any physical attack)
one Geomancer (avoid damage from lava floors, avoid pitfalls)
Chemist (double item effectiveness)
one Blue Mage (Learning)

Sadly, mastering Dancer does *not* allow Mimes to equip Ribbons inherently, they'd need to set "Equip Ribbon" as an ability first. I also believe that Two-Handed is *not* an inherent ability, so unless you want some of your team to have Cover, there's little point in mastering Knight.

The best spot for easy ABP/Exp/GP grinding is in the Undersea Trench. All enemies there are classified as Undead (and give from 4-6 ABP per battle), so the bard song Requiem hits HARD. you can train up everyone as Bards then set !Sing to the jobs you're trying to master and run back and forth, just singing Requiem the whole time. It's totally mindless so you can totally grind while reading a book, surfing the web, or watching TV. Requiem's effectiveness is tied to your Magic stats, so don't try and make everyone Monks at the same time or you'll get hit too much.

As for the Phoenix tower - Romeo's Ballad is often surprisingly effective. the various lady enemies that you fight in there are all susceptible to it! (they have really good and expensive items to Steal, so equip one of your teammates with the Thief Knife - you'll be swimming in Reflect rings and Rainbow dresses in no time.)

If you want to deal absurdly high damage, you just need some really good equipment and a high level (most of FFV's damage formula are more affected by your level than your stats).

Seriously though, it's easy as hell to hit the damage cap in this game. Having 99 Strength would be pointless.

Speaking of Freelancers, here's what our merry team looks like completely unadorned.

I would support Bartz jumping into Monk for super high strength but I doubt he'd master it before endgame (honestly I've never gotten to world 3 and have no clue how much more is left).

Technically I could tackle the Interdimensional Rift at any time. But since I intend to get as much done first before that, we have at least 2 updates to go before then. More likely 3. Go ahead and suggest classes to aim for mastery in, even if it seems like a long shot; we've got access to much better AP factories now, and even just traversing dungeons is getting so much ABP that statue grinding is proving unnecessary.

Potentially. !Dualcast works for any of the standard spell sets, including !Time and !Summon. However, effective equipment management and the right equipment tends to mitigate the need for that. Yeah, it's not as effective in FF5 as in FF6. Since the best you can do is halve MP costs (as opposed to FF6's awesome Three Stars accessory that drops all MP costs to 1), at best you can double your casting time with that trick instead of extending it almost indefinitely.

Helps to close that gap with classes with high strength too.

Figure you have 60 str(which is pretty darned high). At level 40, if you ignore rounding, you only need 16 agility to break even (and every class has at least 16 agility).

17/16 * 150 * ((60*40)/128 + 2) = 128.5 ((60*40)/128 + (x*40)/128 + 2)

x ~= 16

Note this doesn't hold for the snes version, since there was a bug with agility damage in weapons. The real downside is the flee issue. Though the flee can be useful at times. I've used it to run from Landcrawlers.

This math also assumes a 0 defense target, as the defense goes up, the Brave Blade does better. However, if you figure in flare sword, enemy defense is negligible.
