If you are like me, you did not get enough pigeon dating sim last time around. Luckily, the full game is now out and there is more pigeon dating for you to experience!

I've been really enjoying this LP of the PSP game Dangan Ronpa.

The game is part adventure game, part Phoenix Wright, and part... light gun shooter?

It's a weird game.

Sounds like Snatcher to me.

Also the Let's Play isn't over yet? How could you do such a cruel thing? This will haunt me until I can find out what the ending is....Dammit, when's XSeed announcing this for the US, I need to play it ASAP.

I didn't think that game actually existed... But it does and even has a translation? Fascinating...

Oh man, you missed the party. The original language is English in the first place because it's a 4chan Americans who took 4chan up on their dare original.
Or maybe not all of them Americans. But peoples who writes in English as their primary language nonetheless.
If Japan actually made it themselves, they wouldn't have called it "Katawa" because that's the Japanese derogatory for cripples I'm sorry, I mean persons with disabilities.

Note: I do not actually think it is anything but blameworthy to bully people with disabilities for having disabilities. I just find the subtle, unconscious bullying of over-anxious, self-righteous language from non-disabled, rich, privileged white elites to be more offensive than the explicit kind.

Why are you talking about some crappy* dating sim that 4chan made.

When you could be talking about Dangan Ronpa.

No dating here, just social links and Phoenix Wright!

*May not actually be crappy, but it's a dating sim, so...interest level lowers

Out of morbid curiosity, I decided to see what the fuss was about with Katawa Shoujo. It's... well, I suppose I can safely say I've never played any game quite like it before. Never really been interested in dating sims, to be honest. Though I do rather like how it doesn't pull any punches when it comes to disabilities and how people deal with them. Also, Kenji is hilarious.

Yep, it's actually quite a good game and very appropriate with its subject matter.

That was really great at first and then kinda painful for the last 3 (!!) hours. But still really interesting, and Jon's addition of achievements was a great touch that made the whole thing a lot more fun to watch.

Also, Brick, if you end up coming to PAX East, we should totally do something cool like that.

I must have some monstrously malformed shadenfreude gland, because I was laughing the whole time through with nary a moment of "I don't want to watch this".

My friend and I recorded a video Let's Play of Rule of Rose. It's still being uploaded, obviously. I'm the one who talks less!

Wow. That's the first thing to ever make me reconsider my plan to some day play every horror game ever made without exception. It's like... the very worst the genre has to offer, without even having the decency to be completely hilarious like Clock Tower (2).

Honestly I do think the game has some virtues, mostly in the way it avoids a lot of survival horror tropes and the story, which is interesting, although you have to play through it once to really get it.

I don't know if I'd say that. I mean, it does basically know survival stuff at all, but nothing other than Resident Evil really does, and I still don't know why people compulsively stick the word in front of all horror games.

On the horror front though, it seems pretty bog standard so far. Cramped, dimly lit hallways, weirdly echo-y dialog, totally worthless melee weapon as the first thing you find, arbitrary puzzles and restrictions from taking stuff it'd be nice to take, theme-y keys, NPC melodrama, weirdly half-poetic text dumps, you play a kinda useless girl who acts like a total loser in cut scenes...

I will say, in fairness, that I do dig the whole dog bit is pretty neat, and I appreciate the lack of jump scares. Kinda need something in their place though, and I'm not real keen on... sleazy bondage imagery involving 10 year olds as the replacement.

The game definitely has problems, I just think that if you actually wanted to play all the horror games, this shouldn't be the one that stops you.

Oh, I've played much worse. It's just that so far (particularly as of how far into the LP I was when I first said that) there isn't enough baffling spectacle to balance out the boring.

The girlish little imp shrieks are pretty good though, and I am kind of mesmerized by that weird scat singer snap thing your left hand keeps doing while running around.

Seriously, though, can you really complain about more LPs of Final Fantasy X? I postulate that you cannot.

Does he actually say "poo poo" or is that some kind of strange filter I get from not being a paying member of SA.

Also my work filter seems to think SA is "adult." Hope I don't get fired for clicking that!

I might just wait for this to hit the LP archive, as I kind of hate wading through threads that I'm not participating in to get to the LP. And also the work filer thing.

Pretty sure that's the SA filter, honestly I think these read better that way.

Also, The Dark Id tends to link his LPs in a way that makes them easy to follow without digging through the thread.

Strangely, I find it way more distracting to see "poo poo" than "shit" for some reason. I totally noticed it right away because who the hell writes like that?

That's a long-standing filter that the site has sported for years. You pretty much have to become a member to get rid of it. Also, I'm glad to see that the idea of a table of contents at the start of LPs has extended to the actual LP threads there and not just on the archives.

Something which I think The Dark ID is doing well, in spades.

I would totally link his current Final Fantasy X LP right now, because it is grand.

I'm not sure how great it is, but I've been doing a Minecraft Video LP for a while now. I'm nearly to episode #90 and I'm planning to start a couple of others as I go. If you want to take a look you can find the series here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MrFoxCutter

It's funny, and it's a lot of building, so enjoy!

I just recently started a Let's Play of a romhack called Pokemon Emerald 386 on the Captain SNES forum, here. Already the simple task of asking which gender to play has brought discussion of transgender and intersex people into the mix, and I've blatently swiped some comments from #talkingtime and used them in the thread!

That probably makes the whole thing sound WAY more awesome than it could live up to, but thought I'd see if there's any interest here all the same.
