The Hydra Defense Grid and Digging Mechanaloid (as well as the Rainbow Devil in Arcadia) don’t have the look or feel of Robot Master fights, so I don’t include them. But that game still has a good 10 bosses without them IIRC.

Rainbow Devil is definitely a Yellow Devil-alike, and Yellow Devil is the Krampus of Megamas.

And now Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment is done! That's eight 9 Knight Fights, the Enchantress, Dark Reize and super Black Knight for a total of 12!

566!

Mega Man Zero 2 and Mega Man Zero 3 are both conquered. I am still bad at Mega Man Zero math, and there were some Neo Arcadians that came back from Mega Man Zero 1, which only makes things dicier...

I understand that the entire Mega Man Zero franchise has an overarching moral reinforced by every entry that all but literally states "power is nothing without heart/intention." But when you play Mega Man Zero 2 & 3 back to back, the moral seems to be "man, it sucks to be anybody but Zero." For MMZ2, the dude who takes over Zero's job when Zero goes walkabout fails, and then goes homicidally insane attempting to get an upgrade. Then, in Zero 3, the main villain's doomsday weapon is, basically, "Zero 2: The Sequel" (or maybe the prequel). But no matter what, Zero triumphs, because cold stoicism and a laser sword beats wannabes any day of the week.

... It's a weird moral for a Wily bot...

Zero 3 counts as 13, and 11 for Zero 2, so that puts us at 590!

And we can add Mindseizes Ranger Haku (not sure if I’m going to go the distance with this one, it’s good but not super breezy) and ZXs Buckfire.

So 592

Mega Man 10 Bass Hard: I'm in the Wily stages, so may as well tally it now. This is as far as I got in Rock Hard, but Bass is very nearly a strict improvement over the blue bomber. Treble Boost gives you full flight and knockback immunity, and it's available from the start. 7-directional rapid-fire is extremely useful and trivializes a lot of tough sections (The Keeper, for example). Wily 2 is still a bucket of butts, but I'd still rather play MM10 Wily 2 than MM9 Wily 1.

I've said it before, but the way the difficulty selection in MM10 rearranges enemy layouts and changes boss patterns is wonderful. I can't really recommend Hard to anyone who's not already a big fan, but if you want to know what the fuss is about, you can give Easy a roll, which does the same thing in the other direction.

Not updating the tally just yet, but Mega Man ZX Advent has, as one of its starting bosses, Chronoforce; a giant robotic horseshoe crab that creates ice and can control time, and beating it lets you turn into a horseshoe crab, which is completely immobile, but invulnerable, when on land.

THIS IS A LOT OF STUFF to toss into one guy at the start of the game, Capcom! Space out your ideas a bit more!

Also; I never played this game with the sound turned up before and MY LANDS SAKES, the dub is exquisite.

What's Shenmue?
Finished ZX Advent now too, which features eight pseudoroids and eight Mega Men, though I don't think the last one (Model W) really fits the spirit of what a robot master is. So let's say 15, for a forum-wide total of 615.

615!
And I don’t want to risk losing count, so I’ll add Chronoforce, Rosepark and Mega Man Atlas to the pile too for 618!

Mega Man Zero 4 is in the can. That has a very straightforward 8 legendary warriors (or whatever), a Craft, and Weil who is absolutely not a Reploid, but a human, and I know this because he will not stop mentioning it. You're human! I get it! You want a damn cookie!?

It is funny to me that both of the big Mega Man franchises on Gameboy Advance, Mega Man Zero and Mega Man Battle Network, conclude with a final entry that eschews a lot of what was standard for the series up to that point. Mega Man Battle Network 6 moves our hero to an entirely new town to make new friends, and Gutsman.exe barely shows up for a cameo. Mega Man Zero 4 definitely continues the overarching Zero plot and is a direct continuation of 3's story, but drops established supporting characters like the 4ish Guardians for newbies with entirely new (but self contained) stories/drama. I think it would have been cool for Fairy Leviathan to be involved in a love story! Who is this Craft guy? And, of course, both introduce entirely new gameplay elements (Beast changes, singular cyber elves, grab-a-weapon) that are never seen again in their franchises... because their franchises are never seen again.

Relatedly, the GBA appears to be the only system where Mega Man franchises get decisive conclusions. Mega Man, Mega Man X, Mega Man Legends, Mega Man ZX, and Mega Man Star Force are all in a perpetual state of "to be continued", but Mega Man Battle Network and Mega Man Zero get clear finales for their segments of the Mega Man timeline. I guess both already had "sequel series" in the works, but it's not like OG Mega Man gets a happily ever after.

Then again, maybe this is all residual regret over Mega Man X5 not being an ending...

As well as MEGA MAN AEOLUS, Queenbee and Vulturon.

Feel like the Japanese name of “Condorock” was a much better fit for that guy, but I didn’t localize the game so what do I know?

In any case, that’s 632; and our own Lucas informed me he also beat Panzer Paladin, which I seem to w all being worth another dozen; but I might be mistaken. Let’s count it anyway and say 644z

Mega Man (Game Gear)
Street Fighter x Mega Man
Mega Man X
Mega Man X2
Mega Man X3
Mega Man X4
Mega Man X5
Mega Man X6
Mega Man X7
Mega Man X8
Mega Man Xtreme 1
Mega Man Xtreme 2
Mega Man Zero

Based on Googles, I got;

Mega Man (Game Gear) 6
Street Fighter x Mega Man 13
Mega Man X 10
Mega Man X2 13
Mega Man X3 13
Mega Man X4 12
Mega Man X5 11
Mega Man X6 13
Mega Man X7 10
Mega Man X8 11
Mega Man Xtreme 1 11
Mega Man Xtreme 2 11
Mega Man Zero 11

Meaning Lyrai, proving herself to be the MVP of Megamas once again, just caused our total to shoot up by 145, and I also accomplished the MUCH less impressive feat of taking out three more bosses in ZX Advent, for 148

We're at 783, with two weeks to go! Can we POSSIBLY beat 17 more robots before then? Santa hopes so!

Well, I haven't finished Mega Man 5 yet, but I did beat all 8 RMs, so does that mean I get to be the one to save Santa?

Edit: Finished Protoman's Castle, so add Darkman, too.

It certainly does, thank you, Issun, for doing what none of the rest of us could and sending Wily packing until next year.

But MEGAMAS doesn’t end until all destructive forces are eliminated. Let’s keep right on fighting for everlasting peace on earth, and good will to Mega Men

811!

Next year needs to be a competition between Lyrai and the rest of us. We'll lose, of course (for everlasting justice!), but I want to know by how much.

Wily Wars is a compilation of MM1-3 with no changes to the boss numbers.
Mighty No 9 has 8 robot master fights, a handful of nonrobot master fights, and infinite dissapointment.

There are three bonus bosses in Wily Wars, so if someone said they did "Wily Wars," I'd assume a total of 25.

Related: I did MM2 in a 1cc on a plane (I forgot if we count the refights?), then did the first four in MM1. I'll update again if I get the gumption to finish.

Only counting rematches if they’re a significantly different fight each time.

So that’s 12 more for 825

I did not do the tower, because as someone who grew up on the NES/SNES side of things, the weird 'off' feeling of Wily Wars kept bugging me. So just the bosses of MM1-MM3 should be counted.

Keeping the train going.

I have said before that I feel like Mega Man ZX Advent is basically the exact Mega Man title I wanted as a child. There is (English) voice acting and cutscenes! You can not only "steal weapons", but transform into the "robot masters" as you beat them! The plot is intricate but ultimately just good robot fight bad robots! I am not exaggerating that, when I planned out my own "Ultimate" Mega Man games as a bored child that "storyboarded" a dozen potential games through drawings on any (previously) clean surface available, what would one day be Mega Man ZX Advent is what I was sketching out.

So I beat Mega Man ZX (not Advent) for the first time in a while. It... isn't that great.

Kinda needs a decent map. Has anyone ever said that before?

I wouldn’t even go so far as to say “decent”; but if it could land at “coherent” that’d be nice.

Or at least lay out the alphabetically named areas in alphabetical order. That’d be a start.
