Tried out Mega Man V, beat Mars, Neptune, Venus and Mercury, but the zoned in nature of the camera takes a lot of the fun out of the series for me, and this game is full of cheap deaths. So I'm letting Terra win and went back in time instead to play Mega Man 3 on the NES, my favorite. Beat Top Man, Shadow Man, Spark Man and Magnet Man so far.

The rest of the regular masters are done, plus the Doc Robots in Spark Man's redone lair!

Edit - The rest of the Doc Robots are toppled, as is Break Man! Wily will wait til tomorrow, tho.

Okay, I went and played 10 the hard way. That's eight plus whatever the archive counts as.

The weapon set in 10 is super stinky. You all know this. The game remains one of my favorites, but I'd sure like it better if Rebound Striker had twice the ammo. Thunder Wool and Commando Bomb are also super fiddly, but Rebound Striker is the hardest to use effectively, for my money. I'm not galaxy-brain enough to figure out how to bounce it three times before hitting my target.

I got more use out of Chill Spike than ever before, thanks at least in part to putting Chill first in my boss order. It's quite useful for clearing stages.

Also! I had forgotten about the whole "robot flu" plot in 10. It's the best MM plot, not that there's a ton of competition.

X4 is done; as per usual, didn’t care for it, but at least by playing it on Rookie Hunter mode, it was painless, just very dull. Like a tooth cleaning.

Anyway, that’s 8 Mavericks, Colonel, Iris, General and Sigma put down.

373!

About half of Mega Man ZX is done, so that's Giro, Hivolt, Fistleo, Lurrere, Purprill and Prometheus are all down.

Well… maybe I don’t need to bite my nails so much here… might need a Hint on how many are in Wily Wars or Mighty No. 9, though.

Otherwise, assuming we can trust my ability To do math in my head using a 5 AM brain; we have 67 newly discontinued robots, for a new total of 444

Wily Wars is a compilation of MM1-3 with no changes to the boss numbers.
Mighty No 9 has 8 robot master fights, a handful of nonrobot master fights, and infinite dissapointment.

Did they fit all three games into the Game Gear, or was it the Genesis one?

Anyway; that’d be 33 more so 493

Mega Man 8 is done. I hadn't played it since I was a teenager, and I doubt I'll return soon. I didn't hate it, but it's still among the worst the series has to offer.

It was the Genesis one, sorry. My brain mixed things up. I plan to clean up the game Gear one later, do one last sweep for any game boy/NES ones I missed, and then start on X series.

I'm more likely to celebrate a secular Megamas, so I do not usually participate, as feeling like I "have" to do something I enjoy makes a part of my body generate anxiety. I have many brain problems. I envy this robot boy that does not.

Regardless! For projects unrelated to Megamas in all but spirit, I have been shotgunning Mega Man games seemingly randomly, and likely will continue to do so. Within this week, I have conquered:

Mega Man X
Mega Man X6
Mega Man X8

There are likely to be other robot wars in the immediate future.

Well that’s another 10 for X, but how many Robot Masters for X6 and X8? They are among the games I’ve committed to memory

MM8's Bass fight should probably count as well, even though he's not even the actual boss in his stage. I think Lyrai and I were the only souls brave enough to play it, so that's +2.

Regarding X6, outside the usual 8 you have High Max and Gate, and your usual Sigma finale. There is also Isoc, who is not actually fought, but randomly dies to everyone's confusion. And Dynamo, who is fought and defeated repeatedly, but runs off every time. He theoretically survives, but is also never seen again in the franchise. Hm.

With the usual 8, X8 has Sigmas to spare, and an appearance by our favorite Vile. The grand finale is a battle against Axl's younger brother, who has read the Bible recently, and will not shut up about it.

What's Shenmue?
Cleared ZX, so that's another 12. Fun game, but the pseudo-metroidvania structure really does it no favours.

And that's the back-half of Mega Man ZX beaten; game did not benefit from being a Troid.

So that's 6 more for 554

Did we determine how many countable bots are in Mega Man Zero (1)? Because that one always confuses me. I think I fought a factory power supply that was also a hydra, but it may have just been a complex security system. It didn't return for the boss re-fights...

Incidentally, it is interesting playing Mega Man Zero so quickly after the Castlevania Advance collection and its Circle of the Moon and Harmony of Dissonance. There is an almost palpable feeling in both franchises of "Okay, we're on the Gameboy Advance now, let's see how the old tricks work". I feel like Mega Man Zero 1 is definitely "scaled down Mega Man X" in the same way that Harmony is "scaled down Symphony of the Night", and they both don't earn their real "this is a distinctive experience" cred until their sequels. Much of Mega Man Zero's uniqueness lies in its attention to "missions", ranking, and restrictive respawns... but the minute-to-minute gameplay is very much "Mega Man X, but smaller". And, in particular areas (hello searching for bombs on moving platforms that effectively disappear beneath the viewable area), that very much does not work.

Or maybe I am just looking forward to getting Zero his grapple-spear...
