Nintendo Indirects, where they announce a list of features and let us guess the associated game

If Wind Waker is not announced for the Switch next month I am pulling out my Gamecube and hooking the AV cables up to my smart TV and replaying it that way, and then what? I replay Eternal Darkness? I finally get around to playing Melee? Is that what you want, Nintendo? Is that what you fucking want, Shuntaro? Fine, I will fucking throw hands with my Gamecube. Don't make me play Viewtiful Joe because I will motherfucker.

They're not in color, though.

And those cheapasses at Nintendo don't even include Super Game Boy functionality, so just like Donkey Kong '94, we can't even play Mega Man V the proper way.

The fact that Capcom is having these games released all together like this is an indication to me that they considered releasing them as part of a standalone collection with colorization, but then decided not to after crunching the numbers.

I'll gladly take this as a consolation prize, especially since they ain't gonna take the colorization fanhacks away from us.

It's so annoying that games don't get Super Game Boy stuff when Nintendo puts them out this way.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, which honestly... kinda sucks? Both Digital Eclipse and Capcom's internal teams have shown a lot more care than "dump the ROMs into an emulator" like they do for Switch Online.

Also, I still pine for a leak of the ROM of the GBA ports/compilation.

There are at least romhacks of a few of them that, honestly… probably do a better job adding colour than Capcom would have.

Also; Holy Crap! Oh Boy!

I have never played any of these, they were in the era where all video game purchases still went through my parents and guns were a no-no. By the time I could buy my own stuff there were other things I was more interested in so I never bothered to go back to these. We have a plane flight coming up so it'll be good to settle in with these!

Kazin

did i do all of that?

most of those games are extremely bad so I'm not really bothered they're not giving them premium treatment tbh

This world is full of shadow-chasers,
Most easily deceived.
Should I enumerate these racers,
I should not be believed.
I send them all to Aesop's dog,
Which, crossing water on a log,
Espied the meat he bore, below;
To seize its image, let it go;
Plunged in; to reach the shore was glad,
With neither what he hoped, nor what he'd had.

It took a couple minutes but I definitely see how this ties to Mega Man Battle and Chase.

Glad these are on NSO, I like the way Nintendo does re-wind and save states better than the way Capcom handled it in any of the collections. The lack of Game Boy Color stuff is a bummer but used to it at this point. Glad more folks will get to experience how mean some of these games are while still being able to progress. Quint supremacy.

1, 2, 4, and 5 are all varying degrees of good (from "a passable diversion" to "very, very nice")

3 is the only bad one, though if you're playing with savestates/rewind you might not get a proper sense of just how bad it's level design gets.

I would argue that 3 is where they start getting good, 4 is a huge improvement over that, and V is a contender for Best In Series

yeah. I'm pretty sure those 2 tile wide jumps with the low ceilings are pixel perfect. Add in the fact that Mega Man has a bit of momentum to deal with in these games and, well, you know 🙃

Wily's Revenge is almost unplayable for my wife and I (hence why we didn't stream it), but somehow, it has its fans.

II is, if nothing else, more playable.

III is solid, and where the series finds its footing.

IV is exceptional.

And what I've played of V -- a wholly unique entry in the series, rather than the remix of NES games the previous four were -- is no less than that.

I find MM1GB to be perfectly playable myself --- last time I tried it out on a lark I nearly 1CC'd it without too much effort.

MM3GB hates the player.
