This Direct was much better than I was expecting. I sure hope my rickety Switch can hang on a bit longer to play a lot of these games!

Honestly, your Wild Breaths and your Kingdom Tears are all well and good but this is the kind of Zelda I'm here for.

And this one seems to be bringing a little BotW/TotK-style openness to 2D Zelda. I predict we’ll be seeing some wild YouTube videos of the things people get up to in Echoes of Wisdom.

The original Four Swords with online multiplayer may finally get me to bite on the upgraded NSO membership,

Same here, assuming I can find some Talking Tyrants here who’d play along with me.

Sylux has to be someone's pet character because they've inexplicably been building him up for almost two decades now, seemingly leading to this starring role. After the Hunters debut, dude was in the secret endings of both Corruption and Federation Force, skulking about tracking Samus or causing whatever assorted mischief. They actually thought there'd be a gasp on part of the audience when he walked into frame here, all backlit and portentous.

Can't wait for Sylux to open up his helmet for a dramatic scene at the end of the game to reveal that he is Kensuke Tanabe's self-insert bounty hunter OC.

Mine's starting to get kinda hot in the dock with certain games, but it still seems to be running fine. We'd probably replace it immediately if it ever broke.

I hope that for the Zelda game they fix the problem where the Link's Awakening remake engine struggles when its displaying grass tiles on the screen. I am not normally a Performance Person, but it seemed not really ready for release given how often the game displays grass tiles. If not, hopefully it's available for and runs smoothly on the next Nintendo console.

On one hand I really like the artstyle of The Link's Awakening Remake and it's cool that Zelda is finally getting a game.

On the other hand I have SERIOUS RESERVATIONS about the gameplay shown.

The primary concern is combat. Top-down Zelda isn't exactly amazing in terms of combat, but I really am not looking forward to every enemy encounter consisting of pausing the game to select rock, pausing the game to select Moblin then throwing the rock and waiting for the moblin's AI to finish poking an enemy. I get that Zelda isn't known for her physicality and it's an interesting take on how to make an action game starring someone who doesn't attack on her own, but from the trailer it seems like just an absolute pacing killer.

I would hope this is a situation where the game has loads of custom buttons where you can just set "Bed" or "Octorock" to X or Y instead of picking them from a sortable list every 20 seconds, but I'm not betting on it.

I think the other main conceit of asset duplication is pretty neat but there's only so many times you can stack 3 beds and still have it be interesting. especially considering that everything you build is locked to a static mincraft-esque grid. building dumb shit in TOTK felt fun and chaotic because you had to take stuff like balancing and angles into consideration. That doesn't seem to be even a remote concern here.

I'll definitely give the game a shot. Hell I might even love it. But at this moment based on what was shown I'm not super optimistic.

did i do all of that?

It shows exactly this in the trailer - there's a screen where one of those flower enemies are on an Y button in the HUD. They also never showed a menu for picking items/enemies at all, so who knows how you're actually picking these enemies anyway (could be hold L and press a direction with the right analogue stick or something, who knows).

In any case, I can't imagine they'd make the next new Zelda after TotK with open ended gameplay mechanics super straightforward and dull, so I'm sure it'll be good.

I had the same first initial reaction, but then I remembered that combat in Zelda games are almost entirely optional, and if fighting an enemy seems like a chore you can usually just walk around it.

Sylux being so prominent in Prime 4 feels weird after so long, like the time has passed for anyone to still be excited for this goober, if anyone ever was.

Personally I hope when he makes his grand reveal Samus no-sells him completely and doesn't even remember his name, and later he gets jobbed by whoever the actual big bad is.

Let's say. Draygon.

I'm just hoping the final version at least let you sort your list of things into categories if you want.

Like, I don't want to scroll through an entire page of furniture and rocks and shit just to finally get to a monster.

Still amped about this, but expectations are tempered a bit, yeah.

Sylux is a goody goober, but part of me wants to believe that Retro Studios has the power to give him the rizz --- to make him actually cool and intimidating, and maybe even add a degree of moral ambiguity the Prime series has lacked by making him sympathetic. It's for that reason that, if they're gonna do this at all, I want them to just go all in and have him be the main antagonist.

Granted, I don't think he'd make for an interesting final boss himself, so either he should get hoist by his own petard at the last moment (e.g. by an omega metroid) or have a cool transformation at some point.

I am very excited for the Zelda game, but also bummed that she doesn't seem to actually participate in combat, it's all through the wand and summoning. Hopefully she'll get her bow or something, but at least she can throw rocks.

I really liked Denpa Men on 3DS and am curious how it'll work here since there won't be wifi networks to ping. Apparently it's free though!

Yeah, I'd have Sylux and his pet metroids serve a similar purpose to the SA-X and the E.M.M.I. but in Prime's 3D playstyle, and the big bad be something else

Those seem to be mochtroids.

So many of these games look amazing.

By the way, I don't have Apple devices, so is that Fantasian game any good, for those that have played it?
I've started playing it recently. I will mostly echo the sentiment that it feels very much like ps1 rpgs in both the good and bad ways. Really pretty, combat is fun enough (I'm not that far so hard to say how much the systems develop), writing is spotty, but adequate. I would say it is "any good" mileage will vary on how much one would cherish it but it does have the "vibe" of playing a classic final fantasy as well as a modern mobile game could.

This was low-key one of the most exciting things for me. The collection is also coming to PS4/5 and PC, which means Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will finally be widely available again. Take my money for a ride already!

Okay, today I learned about an adapter that will allow me to use my Xbox controller on my Switch, so I'm much happier about the MVC news than I was yesterday.

No Xbox version is bollocks, considering other factors, but whatever. I can cope now that I can buy a physical version (ruling out Steam and PS5) and not have to use a shitty controller in a fighting game (Switch).

At the end of the Switch's lifecycle, it's karmic payback for all the other platforms getting the Disney Afternoon Collection.

Capcom is frustrating at times!

Yeah, I'm still complaining about that to this day.

Why can't I just get all my Capcom classics in one place (that ISN'T PlayStation or Steam)?

And the most egregious thing is that the entire Disney Afternoon Collection is games that were made for Nintendo platforms!

I'm still mad there was no physical version of Disney Afternoon, even in Japan, iirc. And I imported the Capcom BELT-ACTION COLLECTION just to have a physical copy of that!

Yeeeeeees, I would love that.

I didn't know the other had a physical version at all. Japan? I might have to look into that.
