So far Phase 4 has been a big dud to me. Shang-chi is the best of the films (I haven't seen Spiderman yet), and it goes off quite badly in act 3. Black Widow was OK, but the Enternals? Interminables more like. The first Marvel film I'll actively avoid rewatching.

Wandavision was OK, but I think it fluffed whatever message it was going for. Falcon and the Winter Soldier was a spy thriller where everybody acted as stupidly as possible at every opportunity. Hawkeye was entertaining enough. Loki is the only one I'd consider watching again, it was full on gonzo and I'm always here for that.

When they just brought in a bunch of shows with far more graphic violence and introduced a bunch of parental control options, it's an especially odd choice. I could see having both original and sanitized versions available, depending on the settings. But only the cleaned-up version, when Daredevil's sitting right there? Baffling.

I've enjoyed most of the MCU stuff (I actually liked Eternals quite a bit, too). There's just no urgency to watching them, for me. Except for Spider-Man (which I haven't seen but really want to) they've all been like Ant-Man movies now, where they're fine but not a big draw.

For the shows, Loki was great, Wandavision very good, Hawkeye about twice as good as I expected, FAWS borderline incompetent except for when Zemo's in the picture, and What If? was...fine?

It all has sort of an X-Files Revival Seasons feel to it, though, where we had a long film series that was very DONE in a narrative sense, and now it's back for more and not quite clicking even if it's still entertaining sometimes. I'll still watch it, because it's fun, but there's a lot less "Oh I gotta see that" now. Ms. Marvel's the first thing in a while.

First episode of Moon Knight was alright. Oscar Isaac was alright. The scenario was fun. The action scenes were fun but the digital composition on them was all very transparent. The initial premise/scenario was amusing enough, but completely collapses upon any scrutiny in the way most comic book stuff does when you start considering you're in a shared universe with Thor and Hulk and Aliens and the Eternals and Captain Marvel, etc. But that's nothing new.

I assume it is exactly for that reason. They wanted Winter Soldier & Friend to sneak into the arbitrary, internal PG-13 rating that allows the whole audience to enjoy the prequel series to the new movie you have coming out later. Daredevil and the rest of the Netflix crop can be segregated over to the R-rated section... and I'm sure it's just a coincidence they are not distinctly promoting any new playsets and toys. I would assume (but cannot confirm) that Daredevil has a parental warning/block, and Fast Times at Falcon High does not. And man do they have a vested interest in more people watching the latter.

MUNICIPAL KNIGHT BEGINS

I don't really know what to make of this first episode! Initially it feels like a lot of faffing about that has no basis in the comics, but I already knew from the trailers that we'd be doing things differently from the source material, and playing the nature of Marc Steven's identity as something of a mystery to the audience is a pretty good hook. I will say I was not expecting to see Steven fighting a man with cupcakes to Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go. This is probably not how I would have written the pilot to a Moon Knight series, but I'm more than willing to see where it goes from here.

Incidentally, the current ongoing Moon Knight book by Jed Mackay is quite good so far, and not a bad jumping-on point if anyone finds themselves hungry for more after this series. It's peppered with well-placed references to MK's history that true Moonies will get, but aren't necessary to follow the story.

Can confirm, I’m really enjoying it, and the only other MK book I read was the much lauded previous one (I want to say Fraction?) but found it a bit over grim for my tastes

I bet Disney could fuck around with iron fist all they wanted and nobody would ever know.

Maybe the good pupper will eventually show up in Ms Marvel and then we'll have a reason to actually see it.

Anyway, I haven't read a lick of Moon Knight so I have no idea where this is going. The beginning felt a little heavy on the pop song drops but whatev. Interested to see how our guy's two personalities will work their shit out. Steven comes off as meek and bewildered but he's not stupid - he gets what's going on and was already taking steps to get more of a handle on it.

Fraction hasn't written MK so I'm not sure which run you mean. The two most recent writers before the current one were Jeff Lemire and Max Bemis, who both had interesting takes on the character's mental health issues.

I enjoyed the first episode as a strange comedic horror romp, but I hope now that Moon Knight himself finally appeared in the final shot, we'll quickly get through explaining the situation so they can actually tell the story instead of making everything a mystery.

I think it was actually the Ellis run, based on wearing out some shoe leather searching for answers on this mystery

This was a little more like it. I still have some issues with the tone, and the liberties they're taking with some of the elements of the Moon Knight mythos are pretty far afield from the source material (the Mr. Knight persona being some sort of accidental costume misfire stands out). But then you have Arthur being an embittered former Fist of Khonshu, which is also a diversion from the comics but an intriguing one. So I'm still wary, but willing to pay out some more leeway to see where they're going with this.

EDIT: I also want to make it clear that I'm not arguing for slavish accuracy to the comics here. I'm fine with changes, as long as they serve a good story and characters, and lord knows the Moon Knight saga could use a little smoothing out. It's just that it's hard to see the purpose yet of some of the changes being made -- I don't know of any Layla, Marc's generally too much of a fuckup to maintain a relationship, much less get married, and while I guess going to Egypt was inevitable it's a little weird to see MK globetrotting. Imagine a Spider-Man reboot where Peter Parker is the middle of three children. Does it automatically ruin the character? Nah, but you'd be like "huh! I wonder why they did that." That's where I'm at right now.

I was hoping by now the story would be clearer than it is. Why Stephen exists is still basically the central question of the series and they don't seem that interested in answering it.

Maybe this is me being a small-minded fanboy but I'm getting tired and frustrated waiting for Marvel Studios' Moon Knight to turn into a series about Moon Knight. This Indiana Jones shit ain't it.

I for one am happy for them to milk the "British Museum staffer on a bewildering adventure" angle for as long as possible!

I stopped watching after the second episode because it looked it it was gonna become "the cool guy who does action" show instead of the "dweeby nerd who blacks out whenever action might happen" show

I know it’s just the teaser, but I’m disappointed in the Portman/Hensworth ratio contained therein. And maybe I was naive but I was expecting less of a “How Thor got his groove back” movie and more of a focus on She-Thor.

I'm about 90% sure that almost everything we've seen so far is from the first half hour or so of the movie.
