Alt costume for Cammy - Celes

There is a brainwashed by a dictator but-trying-to-be-a-better-human warrior woman right there in Final Fantasy 6, but, no everybody gotta remember the fact that two different heroines can't figure out pants. Bah!

I… don’t get all the hate for the update to the Opera scene?

It’s perfectly fine and honestly what I’m sure most people who played it on the SNES imagined in the first place?

Is there something I’m missing?

Personally, I miss my "wah-wahs". Also hearing voices in my otherwise non-voiced FF feels weird, and I think it feels like too much of a change for a remaster.

It's not really a dealbreaker and I might be overreacting, but, dunno.... It feels like the Ecce Homo to me.

Bad lyrics performed badly imo. It's not as cringeworthy when it's just text on the screen.
To be fair, for textual reasons they should be performed badly: Celes happens to look like Maria, but has no musical training whatsoever.

Not understanding what's bad about the performance either. If there IS a problem it was, as always, with direction. And honestly that would be more of a knock against the original. If anything they should've cranked the opera dial up to keep up with the wild music they've had going on in XIV and VIIR.

There's nothing off with the lyrics or performance. People just get really weird with vocals in video game music. The suite from VI has been performed live on stage with these lyrics for years on end, besides.

It's like photoreallistic Sonic in the first draft of the movie. technically there's nothing wrong with it.... except that it is too realistic for the context it is in. But hey, YMMV.

Kazin

did i do all of that?
(he/him)
It's not a realism thing for me. I really do think the lyrics and performance are bad, sorry.

I will say this, if there is a loss it is in the way the vocals erase the impact and innovation of a sung performance on the SNES. But, despite the pixel stylings, these remasters are not SNES games and obviously SE wants to pay homage to the sequence by exaggerating it. There might be a argument in appealing to tradition and keeping the wah wahs, but I think it's a pretty flimsy one. The original game is still there for anyone who wants the original presentation.

It is pretty cool too that they recorded tracks in so many languages. That's a lot of extra development work they didn't have to do.

I think the remastered opera scene looks cool and wish that the previous 5 remasters had taken similar ambitious swings... or taken any swings whatsoever, really, other than a teflon coating.

I have no problem with the vocals, but I would like "Opera Lyric Vocal Language" to be a separate option than "Game Language." I don't expect that to happen, but it would be cool if it does!

I wonder how much non-singing text is between the latest time you can change the language before the scene and the next earliest time you can change it back, because switching to Italian does sound fun.

I also don't like the performance or the lyrics in the trailer. I can see arguments both ways for why doing it in the first place was good or bad or whatever, I just don't like how the English version of the song came out.

This will never happen, but I’d love to see a Street Fighter game in which Sakura is an honest-to-Pete grownup who is recognized as Ryu’s successor. Give her an actual gi and everything.

Also, an outfit for Cammy that includes actual pants.

Once you know the truth, you'll be ashamed of your words and deeds!

Cammy CAN'T wear pants! The "camo" on her legs is really chlorophyll. She breaths exclusively through her thighs and would die if she ever put pants on!

Well now I sure am feeling ashamed of my words and deeds.

Everybody here’s talking about real words in the opera scene, but nobody has yet asked about a theoretical non-garbled Kekfa laugh.

Now I'm trying to imagine what Ultros's voice would actually sound like and all I can think of is adult Nelson Muntz for some reason.

I'm not a big fan of the vocals (as far as we've seen in that teaser) either in the sense that it's not getting put on my playlist to listen to outside of playing the game. But also, I think it's super cool that it exists at all? And also that they're going the extra mile of having it in multiple languages.

The opera scene as it exists on the SNES is really cool, wah wahs and all, just a really ambitious scene that was awesome to experience at the time. But it also was a concession of the time that doesn't exist now, and someone coming into this game fresh who has played other games before just isn't going to get the same experience now. It's impossible. That genie is out of the bottle and there's no stuffing it back in. Regardless of whether the music is 'good' or not (and let's be real; I'm not a music critic here), this is the much better option for someone new coming into this game, and it's added scope that they really didn't have to do. I'm all for it.

They really need to do something about that font though. Yeesh.
