Listen, I just want to help Edelgard eat the rich again. Loved hearing her voice in the trailer.

(I don't care for musou at all, but if I hear the story is worth my time then I will absolutely hop in with both feet.)
This is exaaaaactly where I am with it. Maybe they'll also polish up the end bits of story instead of how half of the paths kind of run out of writing and bulldoze the last stretch to the ending slides.

Golden Deer in particular feel like they got left out to dry in their story exactly because everyone wanted to kill each other so I don't see a way a "unity" path wouldn't be just entirely better for them.

videogame companies just let me buy simple ports of your old games challenge
The thing is, if they just released a straight port of Live A Live it would be *only* purchased by old nerds into obscure RPGs, and that'd probably barely cover the localization and marketing expenses, especially at the low price point it would probably command. Presumably they figure the audience they gain by making something it look pretty is worth more than the cost of the remake.

Musous are fun! I ended up enjoying Age of Calamity a lot, and not just because I worked on it. There's something to be said for picking up different characters and just going nuts on some bad guys. Like, you can't tell me it's not fun to play as Hestu or put Princess Zelda on the master cycle and burn through hundreds of bokoblins, because I know that it is. And they've managed to find a few tweaks and things with the format along the way, nothing major or revolutionary, but interesting.

I'm definitely interested in Live A Live.
I loved Front Mission 3 back in the day, but the FM1 remake/re-release for DS didn't really do much for me; I remain vaguely interested in the FM1 remake, but definitely more intrigued by the eventual FM2.
I never did play Klonoa... Might be time!
I might pick up CC for Radical Dreamers, but might just end up waiting to see what people think.
I like the look of Super Strikers - I might pick that up along with Tennis and Golf to complete the set.
Kirby and Splatoon 3 are still looking great, of course...

Oh no I'm getting "Too many games" depression again. :(

What's Shenmue?
Surprising, and surprisingly great, slate of re-releases here. Front Mission and Klonoa are definite pickups for me: both are series I never managed to play because I could never find them in store, and now they return with two lovely looking remakes— I can't pass that up. Chrono Cross I will likely get as well, since this looks to be Square's best remaster to date: yes, there are new models and filters, but also the option to turn them off and stick to the original assets. I've long been irked by how remasters upscale or replace some things but not others, resulting in something that feels constantly at odds with itself, so the option to just stick to the original look (including the original, pixelated font!) is genuinely exciting. And including Radical Dreamers is just the cherry on top.

Live a Live… I am undecided on. It's always exciting to see a company dig deep into their back catalogue and bring back a beloved obscurity, and I have always been intrigued by the game. But I really, really hate "HD-2D". This looks like the least offensive execution of it so far, but it's still a sticking point, so maybe I'll just check out the original instead.

did i do all of that?

I wish the Klonoa collection had the (pretty dang good) GBA games, but who am I to complain, really, I'll be buying it regardless

My cousin basically died and came back to life when zie saw the Live A Live remake. So I’m glad for that!

It is a really neat little game so if you were interested there is a good translation for the SFC game by Aeon Genesis (even if the dude who runs that group is a bit of a dick hole).

Oh and I think my cousin is the world’s biggest Chrono Cross fan too, so the whole dying-resurrection thing happened twice in like five minutes and it was immensely entertaining for me.

So Chrono Cross is also comingto PC, Xbox and Playstation. Presumably Live A Live too.

This only complicates things, What plaform to choose?

Among all these announcements it slipped my mind that there was no mention of the FF remasters for Switch ;_;

Nintendo's listed as publisher on Live-A-Live, if that comes to other platforms it'll take a while like Octopath did.

Regarding Nintendo Switch Sports, I heard someone refer to the new style of avatars as "yassified Miis" and I, like, just can't even

While I'm definitely not down for HD-2D for everything (I don't want oversaturation, and I suspect it's very much a budget thing, too), for stuff like Live A Live it makes perfect sense. Gives it a bit of visual pizzazz to draw more people in that would otherwise overlook it or ask why it's not just on NSO instead.

I'm not really feeling it on the Chrono Cross remaster. I don't like the background upscaling, and I already don't like the look of low-poly games with much sharper edges, and yet still maintaining the jittery PSX look. I feel they could do a lot more with this than they are, and within some tight budgets, to boot.

The vibe I got from the trailer wasn't a direct sequel to Three Houses, but a wish fulfillment "Unity path" where everyones' stans don't want to murder each other in the end, so I suspect it will be pretty fan fiction-y.
I mean, that was basically Hyrule Warriors M.O. It's not the most interesting scenario, but it was still a lot of fun/worth my time. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, not saying that's a bad thing per se, rather that it doesn't appear to be a proper continuation of Three House's narrative.

I honestly wouldn't even be disappointed if it was straight-up AU fanfiction. Age of Calamity was very nearly that, and it was still good to see the story play out a different way and get more time with the characters, regardless.

Also I don't know if it's been mentioned but SNESflix also added a new SP title, proving Nintendo still hasn't given up on that as a concept rather than just implementing custom save files: Super Metroid has one that starts you at the endgame with all the things.

Kinda misses the entire dang point of Super Metroid, honestly, but what do I know?

This bothers me far less than the original Metroid one, where they basically did the same thing instead of doing something to alleviate the grinding and make getting there yourself more fun, like hackers already have.

Super Metroid... not a lot I can think to really tweak like that there.

I have nothing against musou games but also zero interest in ever playing them, and this seeming trend of musou sequels to turn-based games is a little worrying to me personally (Fate, Persona, now Fire Emblem). Like sure, make a musou spinoff or crossover or nonsense fanservice chaos, whatever, just don't suddenly do a radical genre change for a direct continuation please

After experiencing the wish fulfillment route of FE: Fates, I personally think it's a relief they're cordoning off this one in a genre that has never appealed to me.

To be fair, none of the routes in Fates are well written. Conquest in particular is mind numbingly stupid.

I love Live A Live so much as an exploration of how one engine can be used to design really different games. Each story in the game finds different wrinkles in how to express the equipment system, skills, art style, ailments, enemy encounters, and dialog. The fan translation goes so far as to use a different font for every story, which serves to emphasize the differences elsewhere.

Based on the trailer, I'm assuming they're redoing the battle system, which is a relief, as it was probably the worst part of the original. I do hope that the little unique elements of each game are carried forward - I am ambivalent at best about the mild homogenization of the FF pixel remasters and would be a little disappointed to see this strange, prickly game have its edges smoothed down.
