The Disney+ thread of ever-growing entertainment monopolies

I think Janices design is also tweaked a bit in the first season, her face (muzzle?) is a lot more pointy than it would be later.

I also think she’s supposed to be an animal instead of a person

Janice's weird voice is weirder than Piggy's. Also, I feel like Piggy had two different "voices" in the episode. I guess the voice switching happened in the SAME EP?!

Any missing footage of Bernadette Peters is a travesty, but what they were able to get is an impressive feat. I’m also relieved that they’ve learned to keep old shows in their original aspect ratio.

Zootopia is listed as Zootropolis on Disney+. Did they just change the name of the movie when I wasn't looking? Why?

EDIT: Apparently it's a region-based thing. Weird though, because it was definitely called Zootopia when I watched it on Netflix a few years ago.

Apparently Family Guy, American Dad, and Futurama are being added to Disney+ today?????

Why was this news not more readily available?!

Apparently the Orville too! Finally!

At least for countries without Hulu anyway, all this stuff is being added under the new 'Star' category today.

OK, I was wondering. I'm surprised they didn't create a whole other free service so it doesn't clutter up the Disney branding. Anyway, the important thing is there is finally a way for us all to watch Corky Romano and Babylon A.D.

EDIT: In actual good thing news, the final season of The Last Man on Earth, which never dropped on Netflix Canada is on Disney Plus.

Yep, they have been doing a lot of advertising about this. Not only TV ads, but lots of targeted advertisement to existing customers too. Basically is a huge chunk of Fox and ABC catalog that was 18+ (they also added parental controls). No word on whether this means we will get our butt shots back in Splash now.

In the one hand, the update is great. No Orville in Spain (yet) but all the Alien movies, Futurama (TV series, not movies), all of X-Files, Bones and Castle (which were _huge_ here in Spain)... However, a big "boooh" for including Mouling Rouge and Romeo + Juliet while leaving out Strictly Ballroom.

OOOOHHH, watch Raising Arizona. Its easily the wackiest of the Coen films (outside of the first story in Buster Scruggs) but also its probably the only Coens movie that makes me cry, as it does in the last scene.

I think all these new additions are non-US stuff? Star is IIRC their international sub-label for 18+ or "riskier" or content, but they're not bothering with that in the U.S. because Hulu I guess?

Yeah, Hulu is America only because... they hate money? So that means the Hulu shows are on there two. And if I wanted to watch any of the Hulu originals, that would mean something.

Is Raising Arizona appropriate for a 10 year old?

Gosh, its been a while. No sex or nudity to my recollection. You might have to explain to your kid what a... ethnic slur for a Polish person means (the guy who says it is clearly an asshole). There's violence but its pretty cartoony. Its PG 13 if that's what matters. There's an adorable baby. Its probably a good choice for baby's first Coens.

It's got a Loony Tunes vibe, but there is a bit of violence. It has guns and other weapons, there are references to sex, etc. A lot of it has an unreal feeling. I think it would depend on the 10 year old.

You might get some questions about what infertile means, how adoption works, what would make somebody go to jail/commit crimes to provide for their family, but I think these are all good potential discussions. I've known kids who have weird fears about being kidnapped around that age so maybe consider that as kidnapping is a major part of the plot.

I can't remember if there are any sex scenes either and I can't remember how violent the fights/deaths are. PG-13 definitely sounds right, probably best if you watch it first and decide.

It's kinda sad that Nic Cage got typecast as the guy you get for crazy/zany when he's also a pretty solid dramatic actor (when given proper direction and he gives a shit).

I'd argue that nobody in Hollywood gives more of a shit than Nic Cage. His expectations simply don't often overlap with other peoples'.

Some day, that man is going to wake out a fugue state and be VERY SURPRISED that he's a movie star.
