Oh boy they're gonna let Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo loose on Nightwing! After months and months and months of poor Jurgens having to slog through Ric Grayson, this should be a vast improvement.

I just saw a pic of cover depicting Superboy Prime fighting the Batman Who Laughs. Can they like both lose somehow?
 
Superboy Prime, as written by Geoff Johns, is one of DC's best villains. It is a perfect reflection of entitled fanboys. (Honestly, it almost feels self-critical when done by Johns)
 
My problem with Prime is that Johns took a character defined by his naiveness and made him a psychotic killer. While I could forgive that, his power level and Johns glee at staging battles between his action figures translates into lots of senseless and graphical violence and the useless and explicit death of a lot of C and B listers (perpetrated by somebody wearing a S shield, no less). I think it represents everything that is bad at DC's execution of the big superhero event in a nutshell.

I don't really get this? Like, there are near countless bad-Supermans out there doing bad shit long before Johns was a writer. Hell, there was an entire website dedicated to cataloging them. (I miss Superdickery) Seems also like a prescient kind of theme you'd want to discuss in your tales of heroism as well, with regards to villains appropriating heroic/noble imagery for their own nefarious ends.

My favorite Superboy Prime moment is when the guy shows up powered by the Anti-Monitor and a Yellow Power Ring in Sinestro Corp Wars, and the whole Super-Fam converges to take out the trash like, "Fuck this guy, he ain't one of us!" And all he can do is throw a supertantrum going, "Nooooo ur the fakes!!!" What an excellent villain. He's like a modern Bizarro.

I question whether Superboy Prime was defined as a character at all before Geoff Johns got at him. He was just a stand-in Superboy, with the largely unexplored gimmick of being from the real world. The only problem I have with Superboy Prime is that they keep giving him an ending and then taking it back and then giving him basically the same ending again.
 
The thing about Superboy Prime is, if you really hate that he's a dickweed, you can just read Secret Identity, which is basically just a Superboy Prime story but where he's a proper goodie. Secret Identity is probably my favorite Supes story ever.
 
Played straight, some of these seem alright.

With Bruce being so uncharacteristically open to suggestion by way of omen, though, I feel like we could get wackier...

Naturally, I am someone who would like the Matt Fraction run on Supermans Pal, Jimmy Olsen; I love Fractions work in general almost as much as I love Jimmy Olsen in particular.

So me saying "this is the best thing DC has published in *years* isn't really saying much. But it's true.

Besides wringing all the joy possible out of the fact that Jimmy has the weirdest life of anyone in Metropolis, it also has Lovable Doofus Superman. Easily my favorite form of Superman.
