Aha, I think I've sussed it out! The "dragon" flag and the "humanoid" flag (or "demi-human" in LoM's case since it lacks ninja enemies) are in fact the same thing in Secret of Mana. Later games in the series differentiate between the two classes of enemy, but this one clearly does not.

Dragon-bane weapons are the only ones whose descriptions don't mention other kinds, so my guess is that they had to merge several kinds into the available bits and forgot to change the description for dragon-bane weapons.
