Hey Felix - which version of FFT are you playing? I don't think it changes things too much but I'm not familiar with the PSP version so I can't say for sure. Also, have you ever finished either version of the game?
I agree with what everyone else has said about party builds and grinding. I have done complete playthroughs with no / minimal grinding.
the best way to play final fantasy tactics is to grab a game boy advance
A lot of classes have movement/jumping boosting skills and most of them are wastes of points; except for the ones which give HUGE boosts; Dragoons have an ability that lets you ignore terrain height all together and... I think Time Mages can teleport around the map. It's usually not worth getting every single tier of magic on the Mage Classes; the high level stuff doesn't have enough of a damage boost to justify the grind or cost.
Movement Skills aren't bad, but Teleport is so absurdly brokenly good they're kinda illrelevant long term. Ignore Height is absolute garbage, though (because Teleport does everything it does and so much more and it's very expensive). Thanks, that's already a lot of useful information. I think I have some kind of idea now how to proceed. I am surprised that the movement skills are bad, but I guess it isn't particularly sensible to have one single unit move around on its own. But elsewise, I'll just try different jobs out, and grind, if necessary.
Thanks for the info.

change my mind
Yup. Squire is Ramza’s best job - surviving that battle involves only equipping Yell ( and having enough HP and armor to survive the first turn, I think). Then you just keep running away and yelling until you have so much speed you’re getting two turns per the boss’ one.I don't think a Ninja would help with that particular fight; not as much as using the SPeed Up skill is (I think it's a Ramza-exclusive Squire ability
surviving that battle involves onlythrowing all your potions away
The thought of just running away from a stronger opponent, while screaming yourself into a rage in wild panic, sound absolutely hilarious to me.Yup. Squire is Ramza’s best job - surviving that battle involves only equipping Yell ( and having enough HP and armor to survive the first turn, I think). Then you just keep running away and yelling until you have so much speed you’re getting two turns per the boss’ one.
I only played FFT once, years ago, and I remember very little about it, but reading "Dorter Trade City" just made me instinctively furrow my brow in anger. I remember. For what's worth, the difficulty in FFT is infamously front-loaded, because your class and skill options are limited and the maps don't help. There's an entire wing in your local controller graveyard named after Dorter Trade City.
But you only get one of those! For a good time put Boots and Move + 3 on a Ninja on a Chocobo and pitch a Chaos Blade across the entire fucking map.
Throw it to your other Ninja with Catch! It's a classic Ninja bonding ritual. "Hey there, son, wanna go out and toss the ol' Chaos Blade around?"But you only get one of those!
Are the FF X games regarded as good? All this talk of the PS3 and Vita stores reminded me of the fact that I‘d bought the remasters of X and X-2 several years ago and had forgotten to play them.
