My personal wishlist:

Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD for Switch
Metroid Prime 2-3 announcement
Metroid Prime 4 news
Super Mario Galaxy 2 HD

This is an excellent list. The only thing I would add is a bit of Silksong news. It has to come out eventually, right?

I mean, the most recent news was from last month saying it had been delayed, so...I'm not holding my breath, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't still holding out a little bit of hope.

Last second predictions:

- One Nintendo-adjacent franchise will enter the musou machine this year... Xenoblade?
- Gritty Yoshi's Safari reboot
- New 2D Mario? Yes, New Super Mario Bros Switch
- Metroid Prime 4 will look more like a sequel to Federation Force than anybody will be willing to admit
- 35 minutes of Pikmin 4

did i do all of that?

I wish they'd give us a firm date for the Scarlet/Violet DLC, not just Fall/Winter 2023.

One detail about it I picked up on re-watching: one clip shows 2-player co-op with one person playing Mario and one person playing Yoshi, and then Mario rides Yoshi, which sounds like a great way to navigate through trickly platforming sections with a skill imbalance.

Mario Wonder looks wonder-ful. Absolutely can't wait to play it. As mentioned elsewhere, NSMBU rocketed to the top of my Mario rankings this year, so I'm very eager

Fuck, I thought I could get away with not buying a Switch until they released a new one next year or whenever, but they might have me with Wonder, SMRPG, and the Peach game (as long as they don't shit the bed with that one, it's too early to tell much).

I'm happy to see them get away from the NSMB style. Definitely looking forward to this one, as well as the SMRPG remake.

The Peach game’s theme seems to be theater and ribbons, which is certainly a step up from Super Princess Peach’s “girls be cryin’’”

Mario RPG is definitely the big standout for me overall but *I am vibrating with anticipation to have Star Ocean 2 on a newer console again*. And the updated graphics and character art look absolutely fantastic. Really excited at how Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks, too.

Also pretty sick that the first two Pikmin games and the first three MGS games will be available on current gen consoles.

This was on the Japanese stream:

Here's a direct embed of the official youtube video of the trailer to avoid Twitter's frequent Oops! All Artifacting and also the first 75% of the video is in 144p style video streaming.

The basic pitch is that the protagonist is a tanuki named Bakeru (literally just a verb meaning "transform"/"impersonate," but it's also just one sound off from the plausible boy's name Takeru) who takes the form of a human, and he also can power up into legendary figures like Momotaro, granting new movesets.

we are finally free of the New Super Mario Bros curse

Fuckin' PREACH! I'm loving the art style for this, and just what looks like the overall willingness to try new things. At least in the same sense as your Galaxies and your Odysseys. 2D Mario was never bad, but it needed shaking up in the worst way and I'm glad they're finally doing it.

Between that, the Pikmins, and a new DQ Monsters (FUCK YEAH) there's a lot to be excited about.

Just thinking about how the Peach and Luigi's Mansion game coming out in 2024 means the Switch will probably have an 8th year of new 1st party software support at the very minimum...

yeah, those 2024 announcements have me thinking that nintendo might actually try sticking out the remaining 3.75 years for the switch to have that 10 year lifecycle they claimed it would.

I tend to agree. Not a given, but it's going to depend on whether those Tegra239 rumors are correct or not. I know Modern Vintage Gamer did some coverage on this, and the challenges in maintaining BC.

Whatever comes next is going to be a hard sell for me if it's not basically exactly like the Switch in terms of portability and ease of use, and no BC would not improve the proposition. It's their problem to solve, not mine.

They're going after the DS and PS2 aren't they, the absolute madlads

I hope they have Odyssey 2 ready for the new Switch, a new Zelda is now six years off. Who knows what that means for Metroid Prime 4.

I doubt anything will beat those two. The environment that allowed those consoles to move as many units as they did just doesn't exist anymore.

I just want to make a throwaway post to say that I feel like the Super Mario RPG remake's character models are a little too short and pudgy, and that it's a little bit weird to see the Super Mario Bros. Wonder character sprites facing in an odd three-quarters angle. But it is pretty neat to have both games on the horizon this year, especially the latter. It should be neat to see what kinds of gimmicks Nintendo can throw together with those blue flower effects.
