The Disney+ thread of ever-growing entertainment monopolies

SpoonyBard

Threat Rhyme
(He/Him)
Wait, the original cartoon was pretty subversive and anti-authoritarian. Is Disney sure it wants that kind of stuff rubbing elbows with its military propaganda?
First episode will be the X-Mans coming to terms with how the Sentinels are Good Actually.

There's also some teaser vids for She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel, all three of which I am looking forward to.

Though it looks like they changed/altered Kamala's powerset? She dooesn't seem to have stretchy/body morphing powers, which I guess is due to there being the Fantastic Four reboot coming and them not wanting to take away from Mr. Fantastic, but it's still a bummer.

Find Your Reason
(He/Him)
I'm honestly not all that clear on what her powerset is in the original comics. She calls it "embiggening" and in practical terms it means she can enlarge, or elongate, any part of her body, but there has to be a distinction from what Reed does, right?

Adrenaline

Post Reader
(He/Him)
She can shrink or grow any part of her body as opposed to stretching it without changing the mass. Originally she could also change her appearance completely but they stopped doing that early.

I somehow missed the fact that Amphibia's been back for like a month and a half. Oops.

I didn't bother re-subscribing to Disney Plus; not just because they were so slow to post new episodes of their cartoons but because of that whole stupid Chip 'n Dale movie. How many of these snarky CGI revivals do we have to suffer through before they just stop beating that drum?

I'm kind of interested in that Chip and Dale movie. John Mulaney and Andy Samberg, which Akiva Schaffer directing, seems like a good amount of talent behind the project, even if the underlying concept is a cash grab.

It's going to rule when it turns out the fucking 4chan plot leak was right about everything.

Is that what actually happens?
Also, they got Dennis Haysbert as Zipper. A powerful voice, wasted. Why the unintelligible fly? Why, I say, why?

I'm unsure if this movie is going to be fun or infuriating, but an apparent lack of James Corden suggests that the former is possible

Me and My Bestie
(He, him)
I still don't get who this is even for. This whole premise with Shrek 2/Family Guy-esque meta reference humor is something I'd expect more from a Bonkers movie (obvious issues with him being a police cop in his standalone cartoon aside) than the Rescue Rangers.

I’m pretty certain this movie is the shambling corpse of the Roger Rabbit sequel that sat in development hell for years and years.

In any case, I’m sufficiently intrigued to watch it, and I kind of hate that fact.

I watched it. The leak is wrong in places, but in a way that suggests it may once have been right. It's very, very funny at times, but not in a way that I'd ever watch it again. The sheer level of "synergy" is enough to make you sick, even if it is ostensibly iconoclastic. It's not, of course. It's Disney. They let this all happen.

I watched a review that pointed out that if Roger Rabbit was an allegorical parable for the segregation of Hollywood, and the interstates intentionally carving up minority communities in LA/the US, then the allegories in this movie suggests that human trafficking is analogous to intellectual property theft. And that alone coming from a Disney movie is evil enough for me to say nope, sorry.

Maybe there’s a deleted scene with the Rangers testifying before Congress on the importance of keeping Steamboat Willie under copyright.

That sounds like the Kidnappster episode of Futurama. That was surprisingly tone deaf, like some studio exec wrote it.

I feel like the single most "oh okay so that's where they're coming from here" piece of media Disney ever made was that episode of the proud family that was a parody of the matrix, only the way you freed your mind was by not pirating media.

Anyway we now live in a world where someone in Disney's legal department sent a message to Paramount's legal department with SEGA's legal department CC'd to ask how big a check they'd need to write for the use of a rejected design...

So their movie could have a needle drop MEME.

...

I don't know what else I can say here.

(He/Him/His)
Welp. That was aggressively mediocre. I laughed really hard at parts of it, though those parts were few and far between. If you’re curious, watch it while folding laundry or something.

It has none of the heart or speculative brilliance of Roger Rabbit, which is to be expected, but it also isn’t bad enough to be interesting. It’s just kind of there.

Also Gadget is only in it for like two minutes and looks wrong, even more wrong than the other cel-shaded Rangers. Though she got my favorite line in the movie so that’s something I guess.

There’s one gag about the fact that Dale’s CG body can’t squash and stretch any more, which would be clever, except that Chip doesn’t squash and stretch at any point either, so it just comes across as incoherent. It’s all very half-baked.
