So we have a local salvage / overstock store called Bargain Hunt here. Lately they've been having bin sales, most of which is stuff from Amazon returns. He hits it up every other Friday morning to see what he can find. Everything is $7 to start, and eventually goes down to one as it moves through the two week cycle. He also found a pistol reflex sight that his friend helped him resell for $360 (!), and the last one also produced an industrial mini computer that sells on Amazon for like $335. Only problem with it was the power cable had been partially severed, so it wouldn't power on in that condition.

What's the emulation wall on a Miyoo? Can it do Game Boy Advance? Playstation 1? Nintendo 64?
From everything I've seen, it can do GBA easily and decent PS1, but can't handle N64. But I'll defer to someone who has tried it.

364 days after ordering it, my Analog Pocket finally shipped yesterday. It should be here on Sunday!

Yeah, I'd say PS1 is its upper limit, and even that seemed at least slightly choppy when I played some Brave Fencer Musashi, although I don't know how much of that is bad memory on my part and was in the original. Not even close to unplayable, though. No Saturn or N64.

Look at this thing my wife got from one of her colleagues at work

You know there is going to be 10 versions of circus charlie on here. Can’t wait to bust it open.

Pretty familiar list of games (this is the “adventure” submenu). I don’t have time to dig in right now but Mario 9 is a reskin of adventure island 4 I think.

Ooo, Mario 6 and Mario 9! If they're the usual ones, you've got Tiny Toon Adventures and Adventure Island 2 there.

Tarnation!

My Retroid delivery won’t resume unless I can pay the ransom fee of three dollars to cover an import clearance fee

Worse than you think! It was actually *fifty* three dollars.

The 5 looked like a $ because it was very early in the morning and I didn’t have my glasses on.

Highway robbery is what that is.

We ship a lot of stuff to Canada and Mexico at work and it is amazing how bad those fees can get. Last time I had to send a bunch of parts to Mexico the guy just told me to ship them to Texas and he drove up to get them (and presumably smuggle them across the border).

Yeah this thing is right up your alley. Check out what it comes with! Fits right on your Bookshelt! Double wireless pads (only had one in the box)

Wow, I love that one of their product features is “we know the screen is a piece of shit, please don’t complain about it”. That’s forward thinking!

My Retroid is now in Ontario where Shadows lay.

I’ll likely get it before the month is out despite the havoc wrought by winter storms.

It’s a Third Day of Christmas miracle

Okay, quick review hot damn

Longer Review
Just based on the short time I’ve had it, this is categorically superior to the 2+. Can’t speak as to the Battery life or nothin yet, but it handily addresses my single complaint with the 2+, that it was too small for both my Adult asized Hands or eyeballs when playing anything that required any screen larger than a GBA. Set-up was super breezy compared to the 2, the construction feels a lot more solid and the screen is even better.

Setting up Retroarch is as fiddly and unintuitive as ever, but that’s Retroarchs problem not Retroids (if anyone has any good tutorials for that I’m all ears) Haven’t set up any PSP or PS1 games on it yet, but everything else looks and plays sensationally.

That looks a heckuva lot nicer, too. It's hard to tell, but it looks very similar in size to a Switch Lite, which feels pretty nice to hold imo...

EDIT: Wait, where are the start and select buttons?????

@Kazin: Looks like they're on top of the unit instead of the face. Interesting choice, probably works okay though.

In other news, I got my MODE installed in the Dreamcast. Honestly, there are no great options when it comes to buying ODEs for the system - I'd prefer to get a legit GDEMU, but getting those is tough in the best of times, and I don't completely trust the clones, so MODE it is! The install was a pain - their little sticky feet need to be trimmed, and even then it doesn't quite fit right with a taller 2.5" hard drive the way I have it. It just feels surprisingly kludgey, so I ordered the Stone Age Gamer mount instead.

As for what medium I'm going to store games on, I don't know. I think I may just go USB drive - I've got some short extension cables coming as well that would make it easy to plop new games on there as needed. But a bargain basement 500GB SSD would also be super duper cheap and get darn near anything on there, it just wouldn't be very accessible without opening the system back up again, and who knows what I might put on there (i.e. fan translations or hacks).

Interface is very clean, and no issues running games so far. It defaults to no disc-seek time and maximum loading speed, which I dropped because I want maximum compatibility. I honestly don't know what games faster loading affects, though, so I'll play with it more.

So far, I'm pretty happy with the short time I've messed with it. And hey, if I decide I want to throw it in my Saturn, I can. (Not sure why I would, got a Fenrir, but the option is there.)

Got a great deal on him, and you can see why:

I tried making my own battery terminals and testing continuity to the board, which I got, but he won't power up. The board has some corrosion on it, too, which means he'll probably never work again. Still, everything else is in good condition, so worst case scenario I source a working ROB. Freaking eBay.

Just tried the N64 emulation on the 3+, and it seems fine. Didn’t put it though it’s paces but I didn’t see any grim tragedies with the boot up.

Default N64 emulator is a bit clunky for control but that’s on me for not doing anything to configure it.

Next goal; get AM2R working on this thing…
