Wyst you wrote a post 3 times as long about how you felt betrayed by animal friends you don't get to judge.

The funny thing is I was like "I'm glad I never heard of this" and then decided to look it up and realized I've actually seen the first episode. But even then, I think I watched it out of a bemused morbid curiousity.Kantai Collection
Eh. Yes and no. A large proportion of 'slice of life' shows are 'Cute Girls Doing Cute Things' shows that almost universally exclude men/boys entirely, so there's no real wish-fulfillment aspect to them. Except I guess voyeurism which is a whole other issue, but not entirely unrelated. It's just that the fantasy it was providing was "a lady in your house that will talk to you."
I think this describes a LOT of the dreaded "slice of life" genre, and anime in general.
I liked the show. I feel like it risked being a little insufferable in the way I found The Detective is Already Dead was but luckily pretty much always landed on charming. I will say, I feel like it never gets as good as the first arc but it remains a watchable show throughout. What I got: entertaining banter and conversation exchanges with science lingo (poorly) peppered in, and also a very less embarrassing version of Bakemonogatari series. Also surprisingly almost no bunny girl beyond the first five minutes of episode 1 and opening song.
