I have never heard a single person in my entire life praise Knuckles Chaotix
Was that when it came out? They issued an update that's supposed to have improved that considerably.
I played a couple more levels of it last night and I kind of like it? I mean, yeah, it's completely broken and not well designed, but it has it's moments. Does this count as praise? lol
So I beat Knuckles Chaotix, only managed to get four Chaos Rings, though. It's frustrating, because I had plenty of rings, but kept falling off before I could complete the special stages. Ah well.
S'alright. I can see what they were going for - collect as many rings as you can for the special stage, then beat all the special stages. Amazing Arena is an absolute miserable zone, though, especially the third and last levels. Just a slog, and if you go to far without turning on the power your completion doesn't count. Add to that the first time I beat the last level of that zone, my game fucking froze before I got back to the hub level, so I had to beat it again.
It'll probably be a while before I play it again, but I didn't hate every second of it like I'd been led to believe. I'd like to try to get all the Chaos Rings, at least, since the special stages were actually pretty fun.

i didn’t play Chaotix, but Vector was always my favorite of Sonics Friends, since deciding he was actually a 40 year old trying desperately to make teenagers think he’s cool.

Is that the weird game, where you are loosely attached to another character, and the connection is somehow rubberband-y?
I tried playing this in 2001, I think, couldn't beat the first level because getting up somewhere was really hard, because of the rubberband chain, and assumed it was a romhack. Never looked back.

5/6 Chaos Rings in five levels. I don't need her.
Got all the Chaos Rings, now just have to finish out the game. I'd be about three levels closer to the end right now, if my cartridge hadn't frozen three goddamn times tonight. I wonder if it's the 32X itself - there's barely any shielding in it anymore, I didn't replace the top half after my s-video mod since I didn't really feel like it. Maybe just replacing the capacitor on the cartridge would fix it. It always freezes when the screen turns purple and it's supposed to take you back to the hub. Weird.
I'm definitely a Knuckles Chaotix guy though. It's bottom tier 90s Sonic, don't me wrong - Sonic 3 & Knuckles blows it out of the water several times over - but I've found myself charmed by it. Particularly as Vector with his double jump, which also lets him build momentum quickly if you do it horizontally. Still, it's better than Sonic Spinball. You can put that quote on the box, @muteKi lol
EDIT: 16-bitwise, it's also better than Sonic 3D Blast, which is maybe a touch controversial. I know that game isn't beloved, but it doesn't seem to be particularly hated, either. I certainly don't like it very much. I'd much rather ping pong around Chaotix than that boring game (it has good music though).

No, this was two weeks ago.
It's just kind of fundamentally shitty. Playing as Amy and Tails is okay, but Knuckles controls really poorly. His wallclimb just feels bad to use, and sometimes the direction Knuckles moves is the complete opposite of where you move the analog stick.
The Trial Towers for Sonic are good in theory, but they're a kind of precision platforming that 3D Sonic (or this 3D Sonic, at least) isn't designed for.
The final trial where you have to fight the first three Titans from the main game in a boss rush with no checkpoints or ways to replenish your rings AND a tightened parry window was just too much bullshit for me. Having to do that in order to access the new final boss and ending feels unnecessary.

Ah, that's a bummer. I'm nowhere near touching that part of the game yet, since it's endgame content, and I have a hard time making it to the end of open world games for some reason...
I kinda hoped this would be the one to change that, but not so far!

EDIT: Lmao, looking at the appendix, not a single 32X mention in the entire book, and I don't even think I see a 32X in the monolith on the cover (proposed new title: "All Games Are Good (Except If They're On The 32X)". I just read your entry on Sonic Spinball, and while I don't hate the game, you are far too nice to it. The last level sucks, and even then, savestates make the rest of the game much more fun. Yeah, it's a good idea, and one I wish they'd have followed up on and improved upon, but what's there isn't as good as Knuckles Chaotix lol

I am stating that I also would rather play Knuckles' Chaotix before Sonic Spinball. This is speaking as someone that has played both games recently (and Spinball twice, somehow).
However, I must agree with Stu that subjecting your mate to its 2-player mode would qualify as spousal abuse.

I just know of so few videogame titles that use the plural possessive! And, following strict English rules on the subject, if we assume Knuckles is his first name (because, obviously, his last name is "Echidna"), Sega is outright stating that "Knuckles" is a classical name like Socrates or Jesus.
