It’s still a pandemic?I think I speak for all the stateside Tyrants when I say: Hey Japanese Tyrants wtf are you doing not updating this thread with non-spoiler impressions to feed our desperate longings!?
I refuse to apologize for being the only person who has their priorities in order. Also, the movie opened on Monday, you gave 'em one day to go to theaters and see it.
Is that the Japanese standard release policy? Over here theaters premiere Thursday and have official Friday releases, but I dunno elsewhere. Monday seems like an awkward day to release a movie. Also, the movie opened on Monday, you gave 'em one day to go to theaters and see it
I want everyone to appreciate this epic post before I get informative ^^^^^It's Friday in Japan because of the time difference
i've seen the impressions, it sounds really weird, like the last thirty minutes are just a video of anno sitting in his living room, telling the audience he didn't want to finish the movie because he's tired of evangelion y'all, but also to please continue to purchase evangelion merchandise, and then does an unboxing of a bunch of new evangelion figurines and action figures that are coming soon
One of these days it would be nice to watch Anno's live action movies outside of Godzilla. They seem to have very nice images.
I haven't seen it in over decade and can't remember enough details to sincerely vouch for it, but I liked Shiki-Jitsu. Even if you don't end up liking it as a movie, it's an interesting relic for anyone interested in Japanese film because it features director Iwai Shunji (All About Lily Chou-Chou, Swallowtail Butterfly) in a lead role.
The view on sexuality of the main characters here feels different than in Eva, too - for the "director", it's more an encouragement to connect with another person, and for "the girl", just another untrustworthy aspect of a relationship. That's how i read it, anyway.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I remembered liking it a lot, but also my memory is hazy and I wondered to what it extent it might feel like a dated manic pixie dream girl type movie in 2021.
As someone who has only seen the Netflix dub I would really like an explanation about what was wrong with it that doesn't boil down to "I'm a reactionary weeb who wants nothing to change ever" because I thought it was pretty good (and certainly much better than the clips of the old dub I've seen)
