Evangelion 3.0+1.0 - Cruel angel's premiere

It does seem odd to worry about backlash tbh, considering "it makes the fans mad" is a core tenet of the Evangelion brand

Yeah no matter what you think about third movie , it does not seem to have been made to avoid backlash.

I think they're basically doing what they want to do. (Obviously nothing is made without considering a potential audience, etc...)

I should probably rewatch the first three movies (or at least the third) before watching the fourth because I barely remember anything that happened in them

I honestly think you can watch Evangelion 3.33 thirty three times and understand just as much as if you only watched it once.

I hope this continues the Rebuild tradition of the end-of-movie previews being more-or-less outright lies.

like there's no way this fuckin monstrosity actually made it in right

they made a Revoltech of this thing

I don't even care about understanding it, I just don't remember much besides like... Misato was commanding a large space ship I think?

The end of the 10 minute preview they were showing at conventions a year ago was salvaging some old parts, so . . . maybe.

(a cam rip and the fan subs are not very good)

I watched 1.11 last night to remind myself what had happened in these movies. It's such a great distillation of the first part of that story, very visually striking, exciting, mysterious and still finds time to build atmosphere. I'd love to know what someone who has never seen the original anime would think of these films; if there's enough there to fully grasp the story or if it only holds together for existing fans because we've already internalized the connecting tissue that was cut out.

I've wondered that myself. Having watched Eva a few times through long before these Rebuild films, I'm never sure how much the movies' entertainment value rests on my own foreknowledge of characters and events, and how much is on the movies' own merits.

Incidentally, I've wondered the same thing about the Berserk movies.

I wonder if his team tailored the jacket to EVA-01 specs, or if it was a gift from Gainax.

Trailer mostly looks good, except for the CGI character models a few times. Here's some new key art:

The Sea of Horchata.

If they released something as extravagant as the Red Box back in the 00s, they're definitely releasing an Evangelion 1.1 + 2.2 + 3.3 + 3.0 +1.0 + 0.5 boxset once they finally wrap this one up.

Since I've been low key working on learning Japanese, I thought it might be fun to translate the vertical tag line on the poster. As far as I can tell, it says:

"Farewell, all of Evangelion"

Not that exciting!

The teaser linked in the first post of the thread is gone now, but it's still up on the official Khara Youtube so just posting the official version here to keep things together for anyone who wants to watch the trailers.

It's important that we have easy access to that version of Jikai Yokoku at all times

This thing has been straining and wheezing and dying before our eyes for so long that the first part is actually no longer available legitimately.

On some twisted, evil level, I hope that Gainax actually has to download a pirate copy for the eventual box set, because they taped over the master of 1.1 with a bunch of all in the family reruns.

It's still extremely in print and streamable in Japan. And they're doing theatrical showings of remasters of the first three movies in the run up to the fourth, which will probably also go on sale at some point.

The overseas (and particularly American) rights are just a mess.

I think the in touch with reality criticism of these movies would be that they have a pattern of milking fans for money with re-releases, not that they're struggling. (Also, if you live in America, that no corporation will allow you to buy them, for some reason.)
