What's Shenmue?
After marathoning X1-5 last year, I appreciated 6 for bringing something new to the table. It wasn’t anything good, just new.

My appreciation immediately turned to dust as soon as I reached Metal Shark Players level

I don't exactly disagree but I'm still more positive on the game than you (and most people, I suspect). X6 is certainly messy, and mean, but I think there's a joy in overcoming its obstacles. Like X5 before it, it forces a player to use all the options and tricks available to them, and really pushes just what can be done with MMX's movement tech. It's funny you mention Metal Shark Player's stage, because it's a standout to me; I love the parts of the level where the only safety from the overhead compactor is to repeatedly walljump to safety above a pit. It's devious, to be sure, but also perhaps the only time the series has ever done anything interesting with the walljump.

I do not foresee myself revisiting X6 after this year, but I'm more open to doing so than replaying X3, which is similarly difficult and mean but without anything going for it.

Well, I was only planning to do X46, but everyone's been so into it this year that I felt compelled to continue— so I think I'm going to run through Mega Man Legacy Collection. Cleared the first two last night, bringing us up to 870!

Running tally:
MM1 (7), 2 (8)
MMX (10), MHX (10), X4 (11), X5 (11), X6 (14)

And while I was going to play through ZX and ZXA to round out the main series... I kind of opted to hold off for now, so we can add Model Z to the pile.

AND ALSO I started up one of the Mega Man-enough games on my docket for this year, with Panzer Paladin!

And both Horseman and Lilith fell to my giant metal fist.

873

I don't think I've ever done a run through the X games. I think I've only ever beat the first or second... Maybe, I should dip in.

You should play up until X4, maybe even play X4 twice (once as X, once as Zero), then bail as hard as you have ever bailed on anything in your life.

If we are going by legacy collections, the first X collection is pretty damn good, while the 2nd X collection is pretty damn bad.

On the other hand, X Legacy Collection 2 has three of my favourite games in its series.

X5 is among the most inventive and interesting games in the series and not to be missed.

But really, unless you are severely put off by the series, I would recommend playing all of them. They all have something to offer.

X8 is straight up a good time

I was going to caveat that X8 is actually pretty decent, but I don't know that I've bounced harder off of two games than X5 and X6. I find them just completely unplayable, and every time I try to go back to them, I feel the same way.

I played X5 long before X4, and I'm not convinced X4 is the better of the two games.

I haven't played X5 recently, mind...

I was coming here to say that I cleared MM4 only to realize I forgot to mention that I cleared MM3 yesterday! Together that makes 18 bots blasted (including Break Man and Doc Robot), bringing the forum's total to 891.

Running tally:
MM1 (7), 2 (8), 3 (10), 4 (8)
MMX (10), MHX (10), X4 (11), X5 (11), X6 (14)

I love what X5 is trying to do, but not really how it does it.

Weil Weil Weil, noch immer Weil! Mega Man Zero 3 is done! That's another . . . thirteen? Fourteen, maybe?

I’ve been counting it as 13, which means 904

907 if you count the other three bosses of Panzer Paladin I took down!

Octo, how are you counting the Dark Mans in Mega Man 5? One rebuilt three times, or four robots? Because you can add another nine or twelve more to the count, depending.

Running tally:
MM1 (7), 2 (8), 3 (10), 4 (8), 5 (?)
MMX (10), MHX (10), X4 (11), X5 (11), X6 (14)

I’ve been counting it as 4 separate Robot Masters myself, it looks and behaves different each time, as compared to Doc Robot which really gives the impression that it’s the same guy with a new gun over and over again.

Not like Santa is wringingnhis hands over whether or not Christmas will be saved at this point either way

So 921

yeah but which Santa?

Sure, it might be Ed Asner Santa, or Mickey Rooney Santa, but what if it’s Tim Allen Santa? What if it’s Hulk Hogan Santa?!?

Not saying we don’t rescue Santa Clauses on general principle, but there’s definitely a priority line

You can't ignore the rules of Santa saving triage. You're just asking for a disaster otherwise.

Aaand Mega Man 6 is done, too. I don't know if it's just because I always end up playing it in a marathon (and thus it follows two games I find fairly underwhelming), but I'm always a little taken aback by how good this one is. Top-notch presentation, fun bosses, Rush Adapters, branching paths and hidden items… just a solid game all around. Anyway, that adds another eight robots to the count.

That, I think, brings my Megamas to a close: I've played through most of what I have on hand! I wasn't expecting to get this deep into it this year, but what can I say, I got swept up in the festivities.

Running tally:
MM1 (7), 2 (8), 3 (10), 4 (8), 5 (12), 6 (8)
MMX (10), MHX (10), X4 (11), X5 (11), X6 (14)

Grand total: 11 games, 109 robot masters

Not bad! It's nowhere close to Lyrai or Narcodis, but 109 is a whole fifth of the way to assuaging Santa's fears. I'm pretty pleased with that.

Good luck to everyone else!

How many is that, Lyrai? I’m less familiar with the post SNES X games.

It’s certainly more than 929, however!

Weil Weil Weil, und wieder Weil! Mega Man Zero 4 is done, so that’s 9 nine more, or 10 if you count Dr. Weil himself.
