The Shuffledome Nomination Thread - LOL Random

Johnny Unusual

Its begun. The shuffledome.

What is the shuffledome? Its a thunderdome in which you take whatever device or system for listening to music, hitting the shuffle feature (or equivalent) and selecting the first five entries. Yep, not aggregating, no cherry picking. You are stuck with those five. Then all of them are involved in a vote-off to see which is #1. Relax, don't feel the need to get defensive. Its all in good fun. Rather than fretting over which music can best represent you, you will leave it in the lap of the gods (which is also on my phone).

So yeah, take your device. Hit shuffle. Tell me those five tracks with links to them.

Show your five tracks in this thread by linking to a youtube/bandcamp/etc. Nominations end Wednesday, May 12th (it'll be a soft deadline, in that you have until I wake up in the next morning). Remember to post your nominations as a list of links, and not a list of embeds!

Q:What if I want to do more?
A: Sorry, five is plenty and depending on how many people take part, the last few might not make it. We'll see if we wind up with 32/64/more tracks to use.

Q: Is this just limited to video game music?
A:Nope, this is an all types of music dome. Plus, if your track includes a spoken word thingy... Well, we'll get to that.

Q: Is there a way to get a mulligan?
A: I'd rather you not and you are on the honor system but I'll give you a few outs. If for some reason your device or whatever also keeps an entire podcast episode and that pops up, sure. Mine has stand up segments so you can decide if you want to keep that. You can also decide if you keep what you have and move onto the next one or a complete remix. ALSO another opportunity: if one of the tracks is identical to another persons. I mean, a lot of us might have Queen or the Beatles so its not unthinkable to get doubles.

Q: What if the music is... offensive?
A: Sounds like a good reason to do a mulligan, too, if you can't stand by it. Like, I have the album Incredibad and the title track is kind of problematic.

Q: So any music.?
A: Sure... except the following previous thunderdome winners!
1. Mega Man II - Wily Stage 1 (Best Video Game Forever Dome)
2. Chrono Trigger - Secret of the Forest (Elemental Dome)
Chrono Trigger - Undersea Palace (Elemental Dome)
Undertale - Core (Elemental Dome)
Wild Arms - Migrant Bird of the Wilderness (Elemental Dome)
3. Total Distortion - You Are Dead (Game Over Dome)

I can't speak for other hosts down the line but I like the idea of keeping previous winners off limits (at least for a long time or until we do a "previous winners" dome)

Q: Jeez, some of these tracks are embarrassing.
A: Not a question. I get it but try not to get to defensive and just have fun. But also don't bad mouth other choices please. Just be nice. If it loses and you have less than positive feels about one of your tracks or want to get defensive, I get it, I have some weird, dumb and silly tracks on mine I'd rather not so up. But its cool to let your tracks speak for themselves.

If I've forgotten other possibilities or issues, please let me know.

You are on the honor system. Please do your best to honor it. Now lets wince and hit shuffle.

Summon for hire
The one other issue I can think of is I"m pretty sure there are some tracks on my phone that might be extremely difficult or impossible to track down an online streaming copy of. But I guess we'll cross that bridge if we come to it (or just mulligan them).

Johnny Unusual

I think that's a good reason. But I have some music on my phone that I probably would have put on youtube as unlisted (it was from my old school. Educational songs I had little dances for. I totally would have done the dance for you guys if it made it past round 1).

Summon for hire
Sooooo my gut feeling is that my collection is dangerous on shuffle but let's see what happens!

1. Fat Man - Alex Seropian - Marathon OST Bonus *
2. Cavern Theme - Koji Kondo / Ryo Nagamatsu - Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
3. Destati - Yoko Shimomura - Drammatica
4. Crossing Days - Ryoko Shintani
5. Mr. Roboto - Styx

*Ahaha, and I ran into trouble on my very first track. I think technically the track on my phone is a remix that I couldn't find online (it doesn't help that "marathon fat man" turns up a lot of completely irrelevant results) but the linked version is close enough.

Infamous third lava dolphin
1. Sufjan Stevens - The Tallest Man, the Broadest Shoulders
2. The Roots - Step into the Realm
3. El Huervo - Vagabond
4. Darren Korb feat. Ashley Barrett - Never to Return
5. SZA - Normal Girl

Thank you for not embarrassing me too badly, shuffle.

A Bard Named SPOONY
So I don't really have a 'device', most of my music collection is still on Winamp, but even there I don't have a master playlist of every single thing, it's broken up into several playlists largely by type (and that's not even getting into the raw game audio stuff like SPCs or NSFs). So should I just pick a playlist or just consolidate everything into one ginormous one for now?

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
How about using an RNG to pick a different playlist for each entry, and then shuffling inside that?
