They published so many brilliant games that might not have gotten out there otherwise. This sucks.

really makes you wonder what the negotiations must have been like for things to end up that way

In a year full of game studio bloodbaths, the Annapurna news is especially shocking to me for reasons I can't quite articulate. Maybe it's because they all voluntarily walked out? I dunno. My one hope is that if they all walked out together, maybe they can regroup as a new company with the same staff since that's what they were negotiating for anyway. Given their track record I'm sure someone would be happy to finance them.

Man I really liked all their stuff. I'm shocked as to how it's so bad that everyone voluntarily resigned, unless they think this will result in a change getting them re-hired? Still, something had to be really bad for that to happen, ugh.

Yeah, I suspect they'll form their own company? I hope, at least. Or yeah, it was a bid to get brought back under their own terms? But they seemed to want to spin it off, so they'll probably just start a new thing?

Issun

(He/Him)
Thanks, Adrenaline. Figured it would tickle Stu's Peans. I also love that, in a year with a 2D Zelda and a Life is Strange installment starring Max Caulfield it still has a chance at my GOTY.

I actually despise all Britishness, and all British people, including myself. We are the rotten crust of this earth.

Oh nice, Pacific Drive has added a bunch of difficulty tiers. I was really struggling with the actual driving. I'll probably restart the game in Joyride, but wouldn't be surprised if I have to drop it down to Scenic Tour. Happy!

you can modify your trips in the Zone with 7 new presets:

  • Pacific Drive
The standard Pacific Drive experience - a Pacific Drive through the Olympic Peninsula.
  • Scenic Tour
Crafting requirements, resource consumption, driving difficulty, hazards, dangers, storms, and damage are all lowered or disabled. The player cannot die. A scenic route through the story of Pacific Drive.
  • Joyride
The same gameplay and tension as Pacific Drive, but gathering, crafting, and research requirements are all lowered. Damage and failure penalties are minimal.
  • A Sunday Drive
Focus on the Olympic Peninsula with minimal interruptions
  • Nuclear Journey
Every map will be filled with low dose radiation that is harmful to the player. Storms are faster and stronger, hazards and damage are more plentiful. An unpredictable, irradiated journey that only the car can protect you from.
  • Mechanic's Road Trip
Terrain and the status of the car impact driving more. Items to repair the car are more costly to craft, and can't be crafted on a run. A challenging drive and susceptible car will provide a test of your forethought, problem solving, and automobile experience.
  • Olympic Gauntlet
All aspects of the game are much harder - An extreme gauntlet to challenge the most dedicated Breachers.
  • Iron Wagon
All aspects of the game are much harder, and failing a run will delete your save file. An extreme gauntlet to challenge the most dedicated Breachers, with no room for failure.

I was at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo over the weekend which was great fun. I also came across a lot of cool vendors/things and wanted to list them here.

I want to note that I haven't done any real research into these, this is all off cool interactions/objects at the show. If someone knows more about any of these please feel free to share!

Art and Music
Curaga Records - lofi game remixes, they sold out of this Skyrim one but I plan to pick it up next Bandcamp Friday
Retro Nerd Studio - Mesoamerican style art, I got this on a shirt
Rocket 88 Designs - They had a science pin I liked
Gazpins- stickers and pins. Must admit I'm not super into the art style personally but my spouse really liked them
June's Perler Village - I'm not into perler stuff but she had tons of great stickers, sadly they don't seem to be online
Materia Store - big variety of music, seemed like the carried stuff from other places too
Sheyenne Smith - cool artist who was nice
Canvas Quest - fun goofy thing, magnets on canvas backgrounds. Kinda like a playset?

Various Merchandise
Rose City Retro - sadly they don't seem to have an online store, but they had cool neon/LED signs, jewelry, stickers, plushes, etc
Halo Collector - I don't think anyone else on here likes Halo/Marathon as much as I do but they had some neat stuff.
Tiny Shed - Gaming tables, something I desperately want someday
Morra's Retro Menagerie - modded Game Boys, this one was only $80 at the show and I really thought about picking it up
8 bit rugs - Another one where the online shop doesn't show much but they had fun stuff
Valhalla Tea - nerdy tea? Sure why not
Chips toys - gaming themed cat toys

Games/Console Stuff
Hark Forsooth - this honestly just seemed like a random guy who enjoys making games, incredibly low production value but he was nice, took me through a game and when I drew a card that was supposed to summon candy he noted how it didn't really do anything then with some sleight of hand suddenly a piece of candy was in front of me. I dunno, something about it charmed me.
Reliks Redesigned - Seems to be lacking a real online store but cool modded Game Boys
Polycade - Cool wall-mounted arcade cabinet.
Quarter Arcades - I've seen a lot of these mini arcade things but these were well-made, and they'd set up a little free play tent which was cute. Also the little 7UP and Pepsi vending machines were adorable.
Northbest Electronics - more modded consoles
Prism - this poor guy had a sign saying "I am a silly Canadian and forgot to get a business visa so I can't sell anything" but was promoting this visual novel horror game

Miscellaneous
Video Game History Foundation - I've definitely heard of this group before but never seen their stuff, they did a neat exhibit specifically about 1994 in games.
Portland Indie Game Squad - Neat little networking group
Debate this! podcast - every day they had a question for people to vote on at the booth with a set of scales. The one I remember having the most interactions was "Is World of Warcraft a retro game?". It was pretty divided when I went by, never saw the final count.

Seems like an awesome show! Wish I could hit it up someday but it’s awful far.

That “Macro GBA” from Morra is such a neat idea.

I'd love to go myself, but it's clear across the country for me! Sounds like you had a great time, though!

Citizen Sleeper 2 launch date is 31Jan. It'll be on Gamepass so I know I'm picking it up, but I definitely didn't expect it to be January, I assumed later. Nice.

In case you missed it, I have no doubt @Issun would want you to vote for your top 25 favourite video game characters. It's fun!

Looks like the MGS3 remake Metal Gear Solid Delta got a release date leak via PSN. August 28, 2025.

Hello Talking Time,

I haven't posted here since my stroke, not that I posted much on this iteration of TT to begin with. But I was thinking about The GIA for a Tumblr post, which subsequently lead me back here. The right side of my body still works normally, so, gaming-wise, switching PlayStation control sticks around via accessibility settings means I've been consuming tons of turn-based RPGs one-handed.

Oh my god, welcome back! I have no idea if you remember me, don't think we interacted much, but it's good to see you again.

Hi Eirikr! Silver linings and all, huh. Hope you're doing well otherwise, all things considered.

Hey Eirikr! Turn-based RPGs are about all I’ve played this past decade, with much less of an excuse. Happy to hear you’re managing, despite being dealt such a shut hand.
