One of the greatest innovations for this gen is that Switch cards can hold more than one game! I got the physical edition of Final Fantasy VII +VIII and I was expecting a select screen to choose which game to play, but instead each game got its separate icon in the home menu.

Psycho Dream - now there's a deep cut. I'm pretty sure that one was slated for a US release, but it just didn't happen.

Oh, right, I remember I have a mag somewhere that reviewed it. It was supposed to be "Dream Probe" over here.

Doomsday Warrior is a SF2 clone from b-tier legends Renovation, and, well, it plays like that description would lead you to believe it plays.

Violentvixen

I don't think I recognize any of those. Although I think one of the JP games is an SMT game? Can't read it well enough to tell.

I distinctly remember Nintendo Power doing a big blowout on all these lower-tier SNES fighters. Street Combat (rebranded from Ranma 1/2), Brawl Brothers, Ultimate Fighter... yeah, not the best.

Becksworth

Aging Hipster Dragon Dad
At this rate I’m expecting X-Kaliber 2097 and Ardy Lighfoot on the Switch here before Earthbound or Chrono Trigger.

You're never getting a Squaresoft ROM when they could charge separate money for it. Even if they never actually release the ROM to buy it ain't happening. So name any SNES game and you'll get it before Chrono Trigger. Same applies to Capcom and Konami.

All of those except Doomsday Warrior look pretty good and I'd only heard of two of them, so I'm actually pretty happy with this update, bearing in mind the above.

EarthBound has already been on the Wii and Wii U virtual console, as well as the SNES Mini.

Fire N' Ice is a super rad puzzle platformer that is increasingly hard to find and goes for like 150+ bucks for a bare cart.

Fire N' Ice was a better pick for this service than EarthBound.

Also Psycho Dream looks pretty rad.

I'd at least like Rad Racer and Rad Racer 2.

Every time NESflix updates I think “surely these are the most bizarre and obscure games they could possibly have picked”.

And every time, Nintendo laughs at my face and says “watch this”

Honestly I'd happily throw money at an overpriced standalone rom of Chrono Triggrr on Switch. Just give me the option!

And some Capcom titles are on the online service, just not the Mega Mens.

To be honest, this applies to me for almost everything; I'd sooner own the ROMs outright. You're right, though, Capcom seems to have taken a more pragmatic approach; the games they aren't likely to sell they've included in SNES Online and it's a decent compromise. I just wish they'd get the Disney Afternoon Collection on there.

Looking at the games released so far, I'd class it as a great selection, with some little known choices that deserved a second chance to shine.

Psycho Dream is so good. Please play it.

Even if the format is not my preferred one with these Online service games, the curational aspect is above and beyond past Virtual Console approaches, or even most of the Mini/Classic consoles. Always excited to see what turns up.

Fire 'N Ice is a secretly great late-era NES game that is also secretly the sequel to Solomon's Key. It's just literally called "Solomon's Key 2" on Famicom. It's one one of the many amazing obfuscations on the NES, and it's super cool they're porting it to Switch.

Not that I need it with a rewind function and save states, but looking it up the Japanese Solomon's Key 2 has a save function and lets you undo your previous move by pressing Select.

I was just going to say this. Sell stuff like Mega Man separately, sure, but anything you're not likely to do anything with is good for Nintendo Switch Online.

I wonder how that works, if they get a cut of the NSO profits, or if they somehow have to pay Nintendo for the privilege like they probably do when selling a game in the eShop.

I think the fact that they don't need to worry about selling X copies to make Y amount of money means publishers are a lot more comfortable putting stuff from the fringes out there. Which rules.

Just give me some Metroid news. Something. Prime 4 would be nice, but I'd take a Prime Trilogy.

Also, maybe N64 or Game Boy Online?

Octopus Prime

I am delighted I changed my day off from Tuesday to Wednesday this week!

Conversely, if it's airing at 5 PM EST, it wouldn't have affected me either way, and now I am going to spend all day looking at my watch and sighing.

Life, eh?
