...oh. I assumed Clyde Mandelin would have known about that lol. My bad.

You're fine, I didn't interpret it as terse or anything of the sort - I was just surprised Clyde Mandelin of all people didn't know about the 2003 re-translation haha

I'm trying to finally get around to playing some BotW before BotW2 drops. The game is lovely, but holy shit I wish I could change the mapping of the crouch button to not be left-stick-in. I am congenitally incapable of not gripping the stick harder when excited or anxious, which means every time I get in a sticky battle I accidentally crouch and screw up basically anything you might want to be doing in a battle.
I did this EVERY SINGLE TIME and hooboy did it get old. Practice for mindful relaxation while gaming, I guess? I forget if I managed to focus and get better at it or just crab-walked my way to victory.

As for dodge/parry and counter, I went through the game doing very little of either of those, and managed pretty well. That said, (late/end-game mechanical spoilers) the main/intended way to fight the final boss involves relying heavily on dodge counters, and parrying/reflecting beams with the shield can come in very handy for guardians and the final boss as well. That said, I was able to just face-slam my way through the boss with a different brute-force strategy so even then they're not required. So it's definitely worth trying to get some practice with that in ahead of time, at the very least to be able to rely on it if you decide you want to.

What makes this extra weird is that he published a whole-ass hardback book about The Legend of Zelda's various translations, including the 2003 one. (Source: I own it). So he definitely knew about it at some point. Maybe this was just a brain fart.

Yeah it was probably a little slipup that I'm sure he's heard plenty about since posting that...

Well I'm glad it's not just me.

Meanwhile I've finally managed to stop putzing around long enough to finish the early-game quest chain up through getting the Slate photography stuff and having Impa tell me I should seek out the four tribes so now of course I'm kind of paralyzed with indecision about where to go neat.

Oh, I also bought all the DLC. Got the underwhelming Great Plateau bonus treasures, found the EX treasure notes in the old ruins nearby, and stumbled onto a couple of them while searching for the couple memory photo locations I actually recognized - got Phantom armor which actually looks pretty useful right now if not terribly stylish (though I'll miss the iconic tunic;s enemy HP readout). Looks like a lot of the other DLC hooks start from Stables I haven't come across yet. Need to get to some more towers, I don't have anything on my map besides Hyrule Field and the Hatena area yet.

Edit: Also, I wish some character would point me in the direction of the Kokiri Forest, because I sure as hell would like some more weapon inventory slots. Especially since I keep wanting a torch, sledgehammer, axe, and sometimes leaf for things, and my good swords/spears break so dang quick.

I found the forest! And with the the Master Sword, which I don't have near enough hearts to pull out. I'm a little torn because I was thinking of getting some more stamina soon, but this is gonna make it heard for me to not choose heart containers with my next... like 24 shrines. Eesh.

Meanwhile I've also got a bunch more towers, piddled about half-way up the Zora and Goron areas, and found lots of cool stuff. I also started wandering up Akkala way on the basis there's another tech lab up there somewhere but instead I found a second fairy fountain (yay! but also this is starting to use a butt-load of drops I didn't realize I needed to save as many of) and the Tarry-town. Starting to feel a little crunched on Rupees after throwing a lot at my house and the fairy, especially as I've got a feeling I should be saving a few copies of each precious gem. Low on arrows too.

So I fucked up a thing in BotW. I caught the royal white horse on Salufa hill, but by the time it calmed down we’d slid halfway down the cliff between the hill and the river. Couldn’t manage to ride back up so we made our way downriver a bit but eventually ended up stuck on a bank directly under the bridge we need to be on to get back to the stables. No amount of fiddling with ZL would get it up.

Looked online and found a few other with the exact same dilemma but no reliable solutions. Saw a video of someone getting a horse up super steep slopes by shooting ice arrows (freeze, it bucks forward a bit on unfreeze, repeat) but… it died just before reaching the top. Camped overnight and went back to the hill to see if it respawned but no dice. Am I just hosed on that quest (and a cool horse)?

Definitely doesn't have a new translation for Link's Awakening, the old "terrbile" typo is still there

The horse should respawn at the next blood moon. If not, you can resurrect it by talking to the horse god.

I haven’t found it yet, but I read the horse god only resurrects horses that are already registered.

However, my problem mysteriously solved itself. I decided to reload to a save before my last attempt to get it up the slope to try slightly different tactics, but when I reloaded what I’m pretty sure was the right save it had vanished, and turned out it respawned in its original location so I could redo the initial catch. All is well.
