Probably because the clamshell isn't designed to be easily dis/reassembleable, I would bet that it's just a bunch of clips securing both halves together and you might run a pretty good chance of breaking them trying to disassemble it.

Steamdeck is being delayed two month, though anyone who had it pre-ordered probably doesn't need me to tell them that and it's not particularly relevant to anyone else.

Kazin

did i do all of that?
(he/him)
It sucks, but money is tight at the moment anyway, so that gives me a little breathing room, so I'm fine with it. Shame I won't be getting mine until February/March, though.

I really, really wanted to get it sooner, but I've survived this long. Hopefully the unplanned delay will give them even more time to iron out any kinks in SteamOS and the compatibility layer.

My SO and I find ourselves wishing that we had this thing already on at least a weekly basis.

I was already at February in the queue, so it looks like I'll be an April fool.

I am also eagerly awaiting this thing so I can bring it over to friends' places and such. On the reservation page, mine says Q2 2022, so idk when to expect it.

There is supposed to be a Steamworks Virtual Conference for the Steam Deck this Friday (I'm still a Partner in Steamworks even though my game is all but delisted on Steam lol), so it's interesting for this news to come out right before that. I suppose it's better for developers to know about this before that starts.

Mine still says Q1 2022, for what it's worth. Just no way to know how close I was to the original Dec 2021 group, but at least I haven't slid out of my current vague estimate.

Mine just says "After Q2 2022," which is frustrating given that I preordered on day one.

My backlog is so full I'm kinda glad I have time to save more money - I've gone from 'skeptic' to 'cautiously optimistic' on this thing so now I do have to consider the fact that I might have to pay for it.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to this thing and am pretty bummed it is pushed back. I think I'm going to replace my TV PC with it.

That might be what happens with my laptop as well. I've basically retired it for my brother's older desktop, but I think this may end up slightly outstripping that machine, too.

No more delays!!! Steamdeck launches on February 25th*

*Steamdeck is actually only beginning shipping on the 28th, so it won't reach people until March.

I assume that is what they mean by launching on the 25th.

I don't know, I was pushed back to Q2, so I'll see in May/June hopefully.

I wonder when they'll charge us the remaining $500...?
From their official announcement:

On February 25th, we will be sending out the first batch of order emails to reservation holders. Customers will have 3 days (72 hours) from receipt of their order email to make their purchase, before their reservation is released to the next person in the queue. The first units will be on their way to customers starting the 28th, and we plan to release new order email batches on a weekly cadence.
I wonder how fast the queues will move. Anyway, looking forward to the first impressions to figure out if I'll keep my reservation.

This is nice but... as someone with a library of literally 1000 games a completely random list of cover-arts and banners is not super helpful for me as the list grows.

Edit: I retract the "random" bit. Each list seems to be in order of most recently played going back. Still not super helpful as reference for me though.

My hope would be that they'll build it into the UI at some point. A little star next to each game in my library would be lovely!

I've got 74 untested games, but my total library is only ~100 games. Though I do wonder why Slay the Spire "might require extra effort" to play/configure.

Good question! I've only ever played with a mouse. But considering it has console ports, I would think so?

Apparently Valve is being pretty strict on the UI requirements for deck verified. Like apparently one game failed to pass because it pulls up the OS level touch screen keyboard when naming characters rather than having an in-game solution navigable with the dpad/buttons.

I played Slay the Spire exclusively with a controller on my PC, so yes, it definitely does.

So that Deck verified page and ProtonDB are in disagreement over Deedlit in Wonder Labyrinth's verified status. Aren't both these sites using the same web services for this info?

I'm seeing it listed as "playable" on both, so they may have done a synchronization recently.
