Mine lists May 2nd, but that jumps back to April 11th if I change models to the smallest, so evidently whatever logic is driving this estimate still thinks the larger models are going out later.

Same for me Mogri. Mine was later in the day because my account was locked out erroneously in that initial pre-order rush, but still Day 1.

Welp, guess I get to wait another week. Got to be super close, though - I saw someone that ordered that completed theirs six minutes in (512 GB model) got their email, so mine at eight after should be hopefully next week.

Just got an email ten minutes ago that my Deck is being shipped, to give everyone an idea of how long it'll take to get yours whenever you get your order in.

It's being shipped to me via Fedex, so who knows if I'll even fucking receive it. Wish they'd have gone with just about anyone else tbh. Oh well, I wasn't given a shipping choice

My preorder went from Q1 to Q2, and the third party calculations are now predicting May or June instead of April. This is for the 512GB version, so maybe the smaller ones are going out sooner? At least that fake site seems to think so, doing the same calcs on the 64GB or 256GB puts the date to late March or early April.

Well, I have it - it was shipped to Michigan from Illinois, though, so shipping may take longer depending on where you live, I guess. This is a long boy! I've barely used it at all (and won't be able to put serious time into it until after work) but MAN does the dpad sensitivity need to be dialed down. I'm flying all over this menu screen lol

Guess I have to learn how to use Linux. I want to play PS2 and Gamecube games on this thing, but I have no idea how to get files to it, since the micro sd card has to be in stupid Linux format, so I don't know how to get any files off my Windows PCs to it. I have the bios files and isos already, just don't know how to get them to the Deck. God dang it. I guess I'll be using my regular Steam games until someone comes out with instructions on how to do this lol

Also apparently you can't download stuff with the system put to sleep. So that's weird

I think you can copy from a thumb drive or external hard drive via the usb c port if that helps.

If not I guessed you could FTP it...

I have a 64gb thumb drive laying around here somewhere, so I could use that, but even if I get an adapter, I have no idea how to copy files from one place to another in Linux, either in desktop mode or in the SteamOS/Big Picture or whatever it's called. I don't even really know how to find the sd card I have plugged in on the desktop mode, anyway - it's all Linux, and it's weird.

Figured it out. I downloaded a trial for a Windows program called "Linux File Systems for Windows by Paragon Software" which allows me to just mount an sd card normally in Windows while it runs in the background, letting me copy files to and from it. From there, the Steam Deck has to be shut down while you copy files over (or, at least, has to be restarted once you want to plug the sd card back in) at which point it will see your roms/ISOs.

You'll have to do most of the configuration for the emulators in Desktop mode on the Deck, though that might depend on the emulator. I've only gotten Smash Melee running on Dolphin so far, and I'm copying more games over right now.

It's doable, even for morons (me)!

Alright, so I put some more time into (of all things) Dragon Quest VIII on PS2 on my Steam Deck last night. A few tips for setting up emulation (and I'm not even finished setting everything up yet, I still have to configure Retroarch):

1. Hide all log windows. PCSX2 won't run games at all in Game Mode (or full screen mode or whatever it's called) if you have the log window open. Just closing the log window in Desktop mode and making sure all log checkboxes are off in the settings will prevent it from opening again, allowing you to run games normally.

2. For Dolphin, you want "screen on top" and "run in main window" or whatever the settings are always checked - this prevents this annoying problem where the Deck doesn't seem to know what window to run the emulated game in, which makes you force close Dolphin.

3. You'll have to play around with the settings for each game. Persona 3 FES works extremely well on 2x resolution, whereas Dragon Quest VIII very much does not (huge slowdown in the overworld and whenever there's tons of characters on screen). DQ8 runs great at 1x resolution, though.

I'm wondering if various emulators and games will get tweaked to run better on Deck - I assume as the community grows and more people get their hands on this thing, everything will likely be optimized, and I'm looking forward to it.

Also, I played with the Deck all night last night, and my hands never got tired and I didn't get uncomfortable, which I found kind of surprising considering how wide this freaking thing is. Though, that said, a Sega Nomad weighs more than it as far as I can tell, and I love using that thing, so you know, ymmv. Also I have pretty small hands for an adult dude, so you know, grain of salt. Can't imagine it'd be too uncomfortable for big handed folks, though.

Steam Deck is incredible. Metroid Dread via the yuzu emulator runs very, very well. Occasional hitches during movies - nothing that makes them unwatchable - but gameplay is a solid 30 fps. I'm not sure I could explain exactly how I set it up - google it, it's a combination of getting a key file and messing about with desktop mode for a bit - but it works. Holy shit

Battery life seems quite good too - I've put 11 hours into Dragon Quest VIII on PS2, and I would say on average, the battery will last you 5 to 6 hours with that game, at least. The estimator thing in SteamOS says Metroid Dread will run for about 3 hours, but I've played about 5 minutes so I'm not sure if that's accurate yet.

About three hours in yuzu seems about accurate. I just played Dread for an hour starting from full charge, and the estimator said 2 hours 15 minutes left. I'm sure it depends on the game, though.

Fully in love with this thing.

Tried two more Switch games. Pokemon Legends Arceus runs very poorly, and Luigi's Mansion 3 seems to be even worse. Both are unplayable. I'm hoping the Switch emulator gets better optimized for Deck, but I wouldn't consider Switch emulation a selling point, frankly.

The Wii games I've tried (Mario Kart Wii, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Wario Land Shake It) all run extremely well, full speed as far as I can tell.

Got my email, and finally jumped through the hoops with my bank to get the payment successfully processed. Can't wait!

I had a feeling Switch emulation would be iffy, as would be PS3. Very much going to be a case-by-case thing. Dolphin, however, is extremely well optimized, so I have no doubts performance on that will be fantastic. (I believe the equivalent that has been bandied about for the CPU is a Ryzen 3 3100, so it will struggle with more core-hungry emulators like RPCS3. But that GPU really gives it quite the boost for PC gaming.)

Also, don't be surprised if we eventually get a shot at upping the TDP, which will give some extra headroom. Maybe not great for battery life, but I can envision using it at a higher TDP while plugged in.

Hooray, congrats! Hopefully it gets to you quickly and with no shipping issues.

Let me know if you can get Retroarch running. I can't figure it out - I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and it will never download any cores, so I can't test out (say) the N64 games I want to play portably. I'm probably doing something wrong in Retroarch, but I can't figure out a fix. Luckily PS2/GCN/Wii are all relatively straightforward to set up.

Also the old DOS game Wacky Wheels does not run on Steam Deck, so why do I even have this thing

(it might be fixable, actually. I think DOSbox wants to have a command prompt window open while running the game in a separate window, and I don't know how to configure it otherwise)
