It's big slab isn't? You thought the WiiU Pad was big.

That intro price isn't bad but you won't be able to play any AAA games with that little storage you'd def need the $529 version at least for playing those.

Wonder if this was what all the Switch Pro rumors were actually referring to?

Is this streaming, or would the device actually run your games? I assume the latter given the numbers, but it's pretty small for a gaming PC...

I don't want to be an early adopter for a new Valve product, but I hope it does well and they don't kill it after 7 months or whatever. Would be cool if it works out.

I feel the same way. I'm very interested in this, but I want to see how it does in the real world first. Being able to play on my TV might be the kick in the pants I need to get through more of my backlog.

This is... intriguing. The storage is a bit of a problem; with the $299 model you'll need to add on an SD card if you want to install beefy AAAs, so factor that in cost-wise when appraising it.

I'm trying to picture if I'd ever actually use this, though. Firing up Control in bed sounds cool, but I really ought to be doing something chill like reading in that circumstance or I'll never sleep...

An interesting idea but I doubt that it would have the features I want, i.e., something on the back I can unscrew to put in more ram or storage.

You probably can't upgrade the RAM, but it has a micro SD slot for additional storage. According to the IGN video, you can run games off of SD cards as well.

Oh yeah it doesn't sound like it's future proofed at all and will need updated models if its successful/Steam goes that route but it also sounds like it's out of the box hackable, being essentially a Linux based PC. So even if its defunct in a couple of years it'll be a great device for modding, so I'm not super worried about it either way.

There are several PC handhelds out there already, but this is the first subsidized by a big company with a store ecosystem for games to help get the costs down. One thing to keep in mind with these is they’ve all make big claims on what games they can run, but getting big modern AAA games running usually require a LOT of tinkering with graphics settings in the games and the TDP settings in the BIOS for each one. If you’re just looking for something comparable to the Switch that can run all those PC games that never made it to the Switch though, this sounds pretty good.

This looks (a) cool and (b) like an ergonomic nightmare.

That’s what I’m worried the most about honestly. After the Steam controller, I’m not sure I trust Valve with ergonomics, especially looking at those mock ups…

Edit: Spec wise, it sounds like it using roughly the same guts as the Aya Neo if you want to see real world examples of what it will be capable of.

I do love handhelds, and my current macbook air plays even fewer games than my previous macbook air. The idea of playing a bunch of old Steam games portably is appealing. I'm not looking to buy new hardware anytime soon though. This looks like something I might pick up after a new model comes out and the price drops on the old model (if that happens).

There are so, so many pc games not on console that I would absolutely 100% use this for. I am in.

This is literally everything I've wanted - Just getting to experience all my PC games as a console game without a big wire or streaming set up is one thing, but I also can play them handheld?
Hi yes this is me also. Absolutely gonna try reserving one tomorrow morning.

My god, this thing looks humongous. I heard it weighs twice as much as a Switch, anyone know if that's true? If so, then promises of being able to play your Steam library portably seem more hypothetical to me, because no way would my hands want to hold that thing for a long period of time.

I'm not sure what this says about me, but my most intriguing use case for this would be portable PS2. Seriously. PC games would be a great bonus. I'm very, very, very interested in this.

Speaking to ergonomics, yeah, it's chunky, but at the same time, I don't like how thin the Switch is at all. I find it fairly uncomfortable in handheld mode. With extra thickness, I expect this to be better for me, anyway, although the weight may be some concern.

This thing remind me of the Game Gear. Love it jist for that reason. I don't need it for big games, but for all the smaller indie games. My steam library is made up of 90 % indie stuff, anyway.

This will be running a new version of Steam OS that is Arch based instead of Debian. Someone on the internet Linux fans are having an argument about this.

Have they said whether this will function without Wi-Fi?
