How can I buy a PS5?

I'm fine ignoring the fact that this slow transition is happening until, like, FFXVI or something materializes...

Meanwhile I'm over here still feeling like "is it really time for the next generation already?", so I'm fine ignoring the fact that this slow transition is happening until, like, FFXVI or something materializes...
I'm in the same boat, really. PS4 has stacks of games I've yet to get to, so aside from the games performing slightly better I don't feel any compelling reason to not wait for a PS5 until I can just go to a store and buy one off the shelf.

I managed to order a PS5! I’ve been following a Twitter account that gives updates on console stocks in Canadian stores, and Wednesday right before bed I saw that Walmart had just put some bundles up. Since it was around midnight, they didn’t get snapped up too quickly and I was able to grab one! It’s a disc drive console that came bundled with Ratchet and Clank, a game I wanted to buy anyway, and a second controller, which I really don’t need right now. It sucks to get saddled with a second Dualsense, but it’s better than paying the extra to a scalper and getting nothing in return, I guess. I might see if I can offload the controller at a small loss, because I doubt I’ll need it any time soon and I’d rather get one in a fun color down the line. Also, uh, this shit is expensive and I wouldn’t say no to lowering to bill a little bit.

Between this and a recent Series X bundle that lasted for a good 10-15 minutes on Amazon, I think the supply of consoles might be getting a little better. Don’t lose hope!

I did that with the Series X. I had to get it in a bundle. Kept the extra controller, traded-in Hitman 3 and AC: Valhalla. (No interest in the former, already had Valhalla on PS5.) Got $30 in credit, which I used to preorder Mario Golf: Super Rush.

Enjoy Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart! It's immensely good.

Yeah, if you have a big backlog already, and are naturally just playing less and less games as we become Olds, then holding off for now makes perfect sense. Especially if you lack a nice 4K TV/monitor to game on. I've found my PS5 to be a huge leap over my launch PS4 just from the 4K native res and the lightning fast load times for PS4 games alone, but if you lack that UHD TV it's more like having a PS4 Pro.

But god damn do games look good in 4K on the PS5. The resolution of 4K is so dense that it's the first time in my life where I haven't been able to perceive the jaggies/individual pixels, and I have pretty good eyesight.

If you have a PC and do any amount of PC gaming and you like the feel of the controller, you might want to consider keeping it and synching it to your computer. It's what I've done. The second DualSense I bought is synched up via bluetooth to my PC for when I play PC games, and it works fantastically. Steam has native DualSense support now too so it works really well.

Yeah I know, I've been meaning to get around to 7R and I'm sure it looks great on PS5, but it also seems like the kind of thing where the longer I wait the more of it I can buy in one bundle. 😅
Some of the PS5 version's assets still look like PS4 assets in higher res, but over all the game is breathtaking on PS5. There are times where the camera begins zooming in on a character's face, and you can see every light source reflect off the characters eyes in real time, and it's just absolutely stunning.

I actually find the second controller very convenient bc they run out of energy faster than I expect and I’m not close enough to the console fo have the controller plugged in at all times.

A price to be paid for those haptics and adaptive triggers. I still need to pick up a second controller. Eyeing the red one, which is apparently more expensive because reasons.

I have so many USB hubs spread about, as well as usb power banks, that I'm never out of reach of power. But if that's not you, yeah a 2nd controller makes sense too.

That’s where I’m at. I still have not played Sekiro, Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, God of War, Spiderman, Mass Effect Trilogy, etc. And I’m not planning to get a new TV any time soon. I feel like PS4 is still coming into its own, and I’m not in any rush to move on.

Honestly I've been holding off on even trying Ghost of Tsushima on PS5 because, although I know the game has a built-in "upscaling" mode (and I've seen some of the generated photos, and man) I want to wait until I have a 4K TV to match it.

So it looks like I'm soon to be joining the ranks of PS5 ownership! And I feel a little bad about it, because I did absolutely no work to get one. One of my work friends absolutely loves hunting down hard-to-find consoles and things like that, and he's incredibly good at it (he was everyone's source for SNES Classics when those were a thing), so I asked him a week or two ago if he had any leads. I didn't expect any kind of quick turnaround, but yesterday he came back with a bundle. Seems pretty similar to the ones a lot of folks here have had to get - two controllers, a year of PS+, and a game. In this case, the game is MLB The Show, which I don't care about. The good news is, he offered to throw in his copy of Miles Morales, which is one of the games I did want, so that worked out. (I told him he could have the baseball game if he wanted.)

The only real issue is that this probably means I'll need to get a new TV at some point sooner than I expected. For the past 11 years I've been using an old plasma TV from 2005 (a hand-me-down from my dad), and while it's been mostly fine, the highest resolution it supports is a whopping 720p. I have the cash saved up, but my bigger concern is getting rid of the current TV since we're still in the middle of the pandemic. It's not ideal but I might wait on that for a while -- I'm moving out of my current apartment at the end of October and it may be easier to deal with this then.

I'm also in the would like to own a PS5 camp but I can hold off. My major backlog items are FF7R and FFXII Zodiac Age. I also have a lot of PS4 games that I would gladly revisit.

When FFXVI, Callisto Protocol (spiritual successor to Dead Space), or the rumored Silent Hill game comes to PS5, my desire for a the PS5 will grow exponentially. For now not owning a PS5 does not bother me too much.

But I also feel like this is the best time to be a PS4 owner. The vast majority of PS4 games are cheap and are not collectors items yet.

I keep wanting to replay AC: Odyssey, but I sure as hell ain't doing it on the PS4 Pro again.

I need a PS5 ugh.

I got one.

Gamestop has been selling annoyingly expensive bundles of next gen consoles, and recently started requiring pro membership to get first dibs. Once I realized that a $15 yearly membership earns you $60 of store credit, I decided it was acceptable to sign up. Got a bundle today on my first try. I wish it had been the previous bundle that included 2 games I wanted instead 0.5, but oh well.

I would have paid to upgrade Ghost of Tsushima to the DC version but I wouldn't have bought the whole game again.

Best buy supposedly has one waiting for me today, we shall see what happens when I show up.

Lucked out during the last drop by mashing on the add to cart button in the app, so I guess that does work for non-bots occasionally.

Costco just moved in to my city after years of Walmart/Sam’s Club trying to keep them out, and they brought PS5’s with them. I almost bought one, but of course it being Costco and all it was in a stupid bundle with $260 worth of extra accessories and games I didn’t want. Thanks for making the high end model of the Steamdeck the cheaper option I guess…

Rumors apparently have the supply shortage for PS5 components easing up, so hopefully they won't be quite as unobtainium in the near future. I want to get one eventually for FF XVI and whatever other few exclusives it'll have over Microsoft, but I also don't have the spoons to have a stock tracker permanently open.

There are a few twitter accounts that tweet when it's in stock somewhere, and sometimes it's with enough notice that you don't have to be watching it constantly to be prepared.

I would enjoy being able to just walk into a store to buy the PS5, as I have done with all other consoles. Hell, at this point I may just get an Xbox Series X and wait for the inevitable PS5 redesign that doesn’t take up an entire entertainment center and has reasonable storage.

So I got one of those "exclusive invitation to order a PS5" limited-time offer emails from Sony today.

And now I guess I'll have a PS5 next week??

I bought a new TV awhile ago and have been considering picking one up, but I've had no luck securing one. Walmart.ca had a bunch put up in the middle of the night last night, while I was asleep, so that didn't do me any good. Dunno how long it might take before I can finally get to buy one.

My cousin and I got a PS5 two days ago. Local shop had a list and gave us a call. Also got the Demons’ Souls remake.

I hope everyone that wants one manages to snag one. But playing PS4 games alone has been fantastic. And we are ready for FFXVI.

The PS5 was the reason I moved from PC to console for FF14. Just the minimized loading alone was worth it; teleporting and it taking a second, maybe two seconds, was worth the price of having to figure out how to play with a controller again. Game looks incredible, too.

Yeah, I'll get one eventually for the exclusives, but I'm not in a super big rush.
