Yeah, it's so when you mess up your dash you don't hit the thing you dashed through.

I would rather just take a deflecting move on a thing that has a real hitbox and dash to avoid attacks.

I also run Ruthless Reflex, so every time I dash to avoid attacks (or even dash in the general vicinity of a projectile) I get a big-ass attack boost. Maybe that's why I find Divine Dash so underwhelming and lots of people think I'm stupid or mad.

Meanwhile, I'm over hear ignoring deflection and just making my enemies weak and critting them to death

pretty sure that still works if you deflect the attack

Yeah, it triggers the near-miss mechanic if you dash into a projectile with Divine Dash. I tested it because I was curious.

Ultimately the thing that turned me off of Athena boons was that prioritizing killing first was more effective than prioritizing defense.

That's true, but dashing is usually not strong enough that losing its damage makes a real difference on your output anyway, and most of the things that you can do to increase your damage with dash have little to do with your primary boon on it (like the near-miss damage-boost talent and near-miss lightning bolts). Plus, the damage from deflecting shots with Athena's dash is not at all insignificant (especially with the boon to boost that damage, and it can apply Exposed for you while simultaneously positioning you for your backstabs).

Let me see, other dashes...

Poseidon's dash is very good, I'd say it's my second-favorite - good damage, easier to use than some, knockback adds a bit of safety and utility, and knockback comes with good riders like shoals and wall-slam stuff.

Zeus's dash can get pretty strong with lightning-boosting boons like double strike and the splitter legendary, not to mention the unrelated near-miss bolt boon (which also benefits from the above and leads to Even More Lightning). But it also strikes randomly so it's a little less reliable without those - I've dashed past an enemy and the bolt landed on the other side of me, doing nothing. Still, a pretty good choice overall.

Aphrodite's dash is good because of the debuff and its riders, and I think it does decent damage? Don't remember about the damage, but weakness is never not useful to have and if it doesn't fit on attack or special for your build, dash is usually a better spot for it than cast.

Demeter's is OK to get the curse, but it's not one of the better ways to stack said curse. Its damage isn't very impressive and its aim is a bit wonky (though it can hit a decent area if you aim it right).

I guess Artemis's dash is good if you do a lot of dash attacking, though I'd usually only take it if I had other dash-attack damage boosts like hammers or a Chaos boon and a normal attack with high base damage by then. I find it a bit lacking because it's just a damage increase without any other utility (which I guess is a lot of her stuff, really). It also doesn't come with a crit chance, which a number of her other boons build off of. I like it on e.g. the 4th bow aspect because attack damage is key, and bow dash attacks charge faster but do less damage, so Artemis makes up for that while letting me keep the mobility and faster charging. I can see it being good for certain fist builds too, with their dash-uppers.

I just don't like Ares or Dionysus on dash - they're a bit finicky to position the damage right without being in danger, and they don't really do all that much damage anyway. At least Dio's provides a curse for the talent.

Ultimately, I like Athena's not just for the deflect itself; it just feels natural and makes sense to me to add defensive capability to a defensive/positioning move rather than an offensive one. It also does damage along the dash as you pass through an enemy and not in an area at the beginning or end, which feels a lot more smooth and natural to use for me, and doesn't lead to any particular danger from trying to awkwardly position weaker stuff.

I completed a second run. I built up a spear that exploded for nearly four hundred damage when thrown, and I still barely made it through. I would like things to get a bit easier so I can see what happens to old Zaggy!

I don’t know why, but God Mode being an option in the settings menu is mentally keeping me from using it. All the Mirror bonuses are just as much a helping hand as God Mode, but since they are presented as an in-game mechanic, my brain doesn’t see it as “needing help”.

locit

Enby as hell.
That's fine, and natural given how most games frame difficulty options, but if you keep hitting a wall (give it another 7 or 8 runs) and really want to see the story through there's really zero downside to God Mode. And you can switch it off when you feel like you've got a better grasp on things!

I liked Bastion and Transistor but Hades doesn't particularly interest me at this point in time. Some folks I know think it's odd Hades won Best Action Game this year over Doom Eternal, but personally I'm okay with an indie game taking that title.

I'm a Doom partisan so I have no idea how true that is, but Hades does look good on its own merits.

Hades was also robbed at the game awards. Depressing Kill Game won when Happy Island Life and Handsome Hell Escape are right there!?

That Mirror Perk that increases the chance of Daedalus hammers showing is maybe the most clutch in the game. You get two Hammer Times on a run that play well together and victory is almost 50% possible!

This is also why that last perk can be good, roll for hammers in Tartarus and Elysilum. As well as getting boons that go with your weapon/hamers.

I’ve had three successful runs in a row. I’ve also won with every weapon other than the shield. I don’t know how to make the shield work for me on the level the other weapons can when the stars align.

Been nibbling at this for the last week or so, got my first clear of Hades rocking a mostly Dionysus/Ares build (I did have Athena's Call which saved my bacon repeatedly in the titular fight itself). Ran sword with hangover on attack, doom on special, had the Ares blade rift stuff for dash/cast, and got two hammers for the two-hit sword dash and the wave from regular attacks. Getting three-hits by constantly dashing around let me basically cap hangover on everything repeatedly.

By the end of the run I'd just pop all my cast rifts at my target and then just dash back and forth through them, and it worked pretty good until Hades himself haha. Burned through both defiances and skelly's tooth and cleared it with like 5 HP left.

Aspect of Zeus is very easy to work with. You can still attack while using your special which procs like Zeus's lightning stuff or whatever very rapidly.

So I started this game tonight and it was a fun time. I've done I think 5? runs and made it to the Bone Hydra twice, almost killing it the second time but a stray hit caught me when it was totally a done deal otherwise. Think I'm saving up my Darkness for a 2nd Death Defiance now after getting some of the low-hanging upgrades and the extra dash. I'm a big fan of the offensive dashes I've seen so far like Poseidon and Ares. My most successful run was with the bow, but I don't know if I really jive with it rather that I got some pretty freaking strong boon and hammer upgrades with it.

When can I start spending Titan Blood?

I don't remember exactly, but it's not too long, and you'll know when you can (it's when more aspects of your weapons start to appear)

One thing that bugs me is I'm griding out currency for upgrades and the like and the Spear almost never has the "You get extra loots with me!" buff. I think it's had the buff maybe three times in all my runs so far. Times like this, I think the RNG has a stripped gear.
