I grabbed the new Classic, but then realized I still haven't finished the first Classic! I played the first stage over, then picked up my playthrough on the penultimate stage, and ran out of lives fighting Gremory.

There's... actually a whole bunch of stuff in this game that I never went back to after getting my initial clear. Like that whole Retro area? That was added after I put the main game down entirely. I should find that and play through it.
And the Journey area. And Child of Light Mode. And...

So has anyone else come across this issue? You're buying or selling items and the shop menu will just totally freeze and there's no way out of it but to close out and reload your last save. It's happened to me a couple times on PS5 now, and it seems to be widespread, even JupiterClimb put out a video recently calling it out. He makes the claim the studio is even considering leaving it unfixed, though he didn't leave a source for that.

I really hope that's not true and it does get patched, it's a really bad bug to leave in the game's final state.
(edit: it is being patched, phew)

It also really messes with speedrunners if they leave that unpatched. After all the updates and work put into this game, it would be a very bad final note to leave customers with a broken game.

It's my hope that JupiterClimb was misinformed or talking out his butt with his comment about hearing that they planned to leave it. I know there's still at least a patch coming for Switch so it's not like all work has halted.

If it's not fixed though, yeah, Miriam runs at GDC and the like will be dead.

This isn't even the first instance of late that I've seen of a content creator putting a foot in their mouth through, for some reason, defaulting to assuming the worst of the developers who create the niche enthusiast projects their video-making output is based on, and then quietly privating or deleting the very public tantrum they put together and uploaded when responded to and corrected. It's a frankly embarrassing and insulting way to behave.

Yeah, I should have thought about it a bit before posting his video in the first place considering Youtubers gonna Youtuber. I edited my own post to remove the link to his vid and strike out my dooming over things.

This, entirely. It was a disgraceful video and they themselves are a disgrace. It's always good to know who not to pay attention to, I suppose.

Is the whole premise behind this controversy just that they called this a "final" update or something, and so some YouTuber jumped to the conclusion there would be no followup to address bugs that cropped up with it?

I ask mostly because I've been waiting for a final update to play this game. Does this mean they're more or less done done now, other than bug fixes to deal with this new issue?

Content-wise yes, the game has everything it's gonna have now.

I'd wait for the shop bug fix to come out, but if you really want to play regardless then do take care to save before every shopping trip else you'll have to re-do like 30-40 minutes like I have.

I'm not rushing to play it soon or anything, just glad to hear that it will be done done in the not too distant future.

How does Ritual play on Steam Deck? I bought the game years ago when it came out on my vanilla PS4, where it chugged mightily. It’s on sale now and I’ve never played any of the DLC, which has me wondering.

I haven't gone very far in, but it seems to run well on mine (60 FPS) - certainly much better than the Switch version. Some reports I see elsewhere say the same, and even some that say it can hold 90 FPS most of the time.

Thank you for the response. It doesn’t have the green verified symbol for Steam Deck compatibility, though I’ve come to learn that isn’t usually a big issue.

Maybe I’ll see if the PS4 version ever got patched…

New patch is out which fixes, among other things, the shop softlock glitch. It also supposedly reduces load time for Classic modes, but I haven't tried that yet.
Just to clarify here - it wasn't a reduction.

There was a bug introduced in the previous update that multiplied Classic 1's loads by a factor of 10. That bug has been fixed.

If you played it a year ago you will not notice a load change.

Well, that's a load off my mind.

Question:

We finally got the cord we need to hopefully be able to do at least one Halloween stream this freaking month, and we were looking at Dominique's Curse on Halloween evening.

I have Bloodstained on my Xbox, but haven't beaten it. In fact, we have it on other consoles and I think I played it a bit there before grabbing it here, so I don't think I've even played it there yet.

In any case, do I need to have beaten it to play Dominique's Curse? I'm aware of the story connections and such, but if I buy/download it, am I good to go, as simple as that?

You just gotta buy it. No restrictions.

PS. Thanks for remembering my little game -_-

Ah, thanks! Good to know.

And I'm sorry we're not going to get to stream it on Halloween like I'd hoped. I don't know what's wrong, but we just can't get our Elgato setup to stream anymore. >_<

Unless someone can help us troubleshoot, me and Nadia's stream is pretty well fucked, save for whatever low-resource stuff we can run on her laptop. 😿
