Keeping a bit of magic in reserve would be good...so raid, exploration, recruiting, feasting, trade?

This LP convinced me to pick this up and I got the "Trollkin rooting in the grain bins" event and learned a little to late Humkt was a bad choice. Oh well.

I'm all for Recruiting in Sea, Trade, Treasures, Raiding as much as possible and Exploring.

I am all for exploring, trading, learning mysteries and feasting. Possibly all in one day and in that order.

I am opposed to buying treasures. Treasures are either found or "borrowed" from other clans. You don't buy them.

Ha, us kooky Canadians have our feast action in Earth 2 rather than Dark 1. In the same month as the annual candy gorge!

Year 1337, part 1

This year will be a good year!

Sea 1

SOMEONE didn't get the memo.

I thought this was old news! Or maybe it just seems like old news because 1336 took, like, a year. Regardless, Insterid is now a Heroic-tier Combat thane. Good stuff.

And, as mentioned, the breeze changed, so a new clan is #1 on goods. Whatever. We'll court them instead of the other jerks. Works for me.

Interruptingly

They're offering to improve our hunting yield. Hooray? I mean, hunting isn't really a prime food source. Then again, Arene is always complaining that our hunters don't have enough to do. Then again, that might be based solely on the size of our wildlands, which this doesn't affect.
Yerestia: Many of them are Narri, who are our friends. They will happily accept the offer of a future favor. Recommends #2.
Harvar: Give them thirty cows. Recommends #1.
Insterid: If hunting gets easier, we will have more time to prepare for war. Recommends #1, #2, or #5.
Iskalli: Of course, they expect a gift or favor in return. Recommends #1, #2, or #5.
Valensta: Our clan magic is strong; we can afford to share. Recommends #5.
Arene: Odayla is the got of the hunt, who teaches us clever ways to take the animals of the forest. No recommendation.
Heortarl: An unborn babe of our clan is a better hunter than these flea-bitten rascals! Recommends #4.
Mogri: Don't give them thirty cows. Are you crazy?
Hunting is just, like, whatever.

Do we have extra magic?

That seems the path of least resistance.

Hey, I see that our reputation has improved. We're getting closer to being the king!

How much magic would it cost for this? If it's a lot then I think owing the favor might be the best. I think we'd seem like jerks if we refused. Damn pushy door-to-door saleshuntsmen.

It's probably going to cost 1 or 2 points of magic. My guess is 2.

If they take the favour, they're probably going to come back and insist that we help them do something stupid. I'm not moving house for these people!

Year 1337, part 2

We've decided to give of our magic so that the Odayla worshippers can bless our hunting.

Oh, uh, geez. I didn't realize there was gonna be a quiz here. I went with two.

I mean, I can't be bothered to ever actually spend magic on hunting during Sacred Time, but I guess for the sake of this event.

Sure, okay.

Sea 2

I scroll through our mysteries and discover that we're missing a certain key blessing.

Humakt is happy to provide!

Truesword doubles the effect of our weaponthanes. Normally, each weaponthane is as strong as five footmen. I eagerly switch from Battle Luck. This is the best combat blessing in the game.

I was totally going to recruit more weaponthanes this season, wasn't I? Oh well. This is better anyway.

Good news: the trade route we attempted last month has gone through. We have another trading partner now, which means more goods income.

Fire 1

You know what we're doing this season.

We're not raiding the Peluski, though by all accounts, we certainly could if we wanted. How can you possibly be worse off than the Punching Bag clan?

Let's give the Peluski a relative leg up by knocking the Osgosi down a few pegs. The advantage is so decisive that I don't feel any inclination to put more magic into this.

Hey, great news! Insterid finally gets a starring role in one of the battle scenes.

Now, the question of which option to choose is insteresting (that was a typo, but it's appropriate, so I'm keeping it). Option 2 is lame and just won't happen. Insterid is better than that.

I decide to go with option 3. Sartark has the option of ignoring Insterid's challenge, but he can't ignore her arrows.

Insterid ends him.

We don't get a ton of plunder here, but we do teach the Osgosi a valuable lesson. Maybe the Peluski aren't the weakest clan in the neighborhood anymore.

Insterid has begun taking over the duties of the other ring members, starting with Arene. Messing with the hunter slider is not really a priority, though.

Dryly

Hunting may be up, but our harvest looks grim again. We can't take too many more of these.
Yerestia: Our allies the Eagles are far away, and may not be hurt by this drought. They will help us. Recommends #4.
Harvar: Once we resolve this crisis, we should sacrifice to Orlanth to learn the secrets of his quest against Aroka. No recommendation.
Insterid: The drought will have the bellies of the Rangdani weaponthanes grumbling. If we strike before our own men are weakened, we will triumph. Recommends #2.
Iskalli: There is no law against raiding other clans when times are rough, but we'll also collect the permanent resentment of our victims if we do. No recommendation.
Valensta: If the drought lasts several seasons, we could lose a lot of our herd. No recommendation.
Arene: We must petition Heler, God of Rain, to end our misery. Recommends #3.
Heortarl: I guess we won't laugh about this when everything is damp and soggy next Storm season. No recommendation.
Mogri: Over half the ring has no suggestion to address the immediate issue. Jerks.
Heler is the god of rain, but he's not available for normal worship. Orlanth provides the Rain blessing, and his heroquest can end droughts as Harvar suggests, but those avenues might be too slow to avoid negative repercussions from this event.

I tried doing the heroquest to end the drought, but even with save scumming I gave up after the 5th or so try.

Surely our buddies the Eagles will help us!

If you're having trouble with heroquests, there are some things you can do to improve your odds of success:
  • Make sure seven gods are represented on your clan ring. If a member is sick, wounded, or traveling, you won't meet this condition.
  • Use a quester who worships the god represented in the quest. If it's Orlanth's quest, a Vingan can work, too.
  • Wait a few years between quests. You'll have a hard time entering the god-realm if it's been less than three years.
  • Don't attempt a quest if your magic is below 0.
  • Use a quester with skills that are suited to the quest, and try to pick options during the quest that align with the quester's skills, even if those choices differ from the legends.
  • Learning the full details of the myth probably improves your odds of success, even if you (the player) never bother reading them.
  • For "Orlanth and Aroka" in particular, you want a thane with good Combat, since most of the quest involves combat. The final stage (fighting Aroka) is particularly deadly to an unskilled thane.

Yeah, it was the one time I got to the end and my quester was slain that I decided to give up. I knew about having seven different gods represented on the ring and having a follower of that god, but I didn't know about the soft time limit although I did start to suspect it in my game.

4. While I would normally advocate as much violence as possible, the safe solution seems best here.
