Well, what did you expect, "Celes"? Pfft, what a silly name that would be.

Yes. That's the kind of name that would make you want to throw yourself off a cliff.

i expect a full sprite rip within the fortnight
I'm really liking the slight story changes in this, by the way. Adds a nice touch. |

There's one on the romhack webpage, at least for the mane cast. Cast spoilers, at least in terms of who's in the game, though not which role they have.

The random enemy changes sure are random.

sometimes you just gotta add more than ponies and an exceptionally ugly font

Why are the ponies riding giant birds instead of galloping their lazy asses out of the desert themselves? This is not a game with appropriate morals for young girls between the ages of 4 and 8 years old!

presumably it is a fetish thing
i don't particularly feel like looking into it any farther |

So why couldn't you change the font to not terrible, Elfir?
By the way, I just noticed the way the front-facing sprites' legs are. Looks like they constantly have to piss. |

My guess? The embedded font is used for a lot of other things besides the text boxes, so replacing it probably screws up some other things inside the hack.

Unless they modified the way the ROM itself is coded, that's not true. The fonts in FF3US/FF6j are only used in their respective sections of the game: the menu for the 8x8 and the dialogue for the 12x12. It would take some serious coding work to get either font to show up outside of where they're normally used.

Oh god, I fear that the half dozen episodes I've seen won't be enough for me to fully appreciate this thing.
I'm also curious if the balance of this thing is going to be horribly broken or more challenging or just weird. Locke with tools? Edgar gets some potentially broken summoning? But not everyone gets magic? This has me intrigued. God help me I might actually play this if the gameplay changes continue to be this bizarre. |

Wait a minute... Our Sabin replacement might not have Blitz!

Mostly because I am tech unsavy as hell. I was hoping for some emulator setting that might revert stuff, like turning off layers, and went through three emulators hunting for it. It did not exist, so I gave up.

I can only keep up with one cult-hit animated series at a time
"...What?"
"Get his PIN Number, you idiots! I've gotta go attend some charity BS for knocked-up teenage sluts." Also, regarding the LP: Who-sa-wha...? Um...huh. It'll be interesting seeing what this scenario changes to the base FF3/6. I wonder if Vanish-Doom (or its pony equivalent) still works... |

I forget if this has already been mentioned, but what version of the game is this hack based on?

Gotta be SNES. The font in the menu and battles is identical, and VI Advance uses a different one.
edit: plus if memory serves, IV Advance isn't constrained by a six-character limit on names. Pretty sure it allows for 8 or 9. There wouldn't need to be so many silly abbreviations. Of course, the tradeoff would've been making the player's ears bleed. I'll take Twi and Tia any day. Last edited by Torgo; 07-17-2012 at 01:28 PM. |

Obviously, it will be given to Fluttershy when she shows up.

Celestia: There are rare jewels that when held, allow a unicorn to recall ancient magic. This one was my mother's. Twilight, I want you to hold it for a while, let it draw out your hidden power. Apple Bloom: Magic?! Well shoot princess, I don't s'pose Ah could have a go at it too?! Celestia: Sorry, Apple Bloom, it only works for unicorns. But don't worry, as an earth pony, you have special talents of your own! Apple Bloom: Yeah, sure... right... Celestia: Twilight, I think there are other stones like this, and the Empire is searching for them. If we find any more, we need to learn their secrets, and share them with any other unicorns who might join our cause... Twilight Sparkle: Thank you princess, I won't let you down! And just like that, we've got our first esper! I guess the Unicorn magicite was passed down in Celestia's family but I can't help but imagine the Unicorn magicite is Celestia's mom. From what Discord said last time about retrieving their horns, maybe a unicorn's horn can be turned into magicite! Apple Bloom can't use it, as mentioned, but Celestia can. She'll get it as soon as Twilight's done and hopefully we'll have two rounds of Bolt by the time we get to the river segment. Speaking of Celestia's magical ability, she randomly learned Fire. It didn't coincide with a level up, she doesn't have an esper, and there doesn't appear to be anything on her equipment. That gibberish in the battle shot is what turns up whenever she uses Summon. I guess I'll see if it does anything once she has Unicorn equipped. Or whenever I get an esper that isn't boring as heck to summon. In Canterlot City we stop by the relic shop right away, because screw this slow walking nonsense! Horseshoes are Sprint Shoes. Star Bow prevents poison, which I remember being annoying coming up so I pick up a couple. I guess Goggles would be handy on the river but I ran out of money buying armor anyway. Standard upgrades from the armor shop, though body armor are saddles now. Fluttershy as Shadow? Crazy! Fluttershy is... shy. But she's good with animals, caring for dozens at her cottage and diffusing several angry monster encounters with kindness. In one episode she shows the ability to make unruly animals back down with a stern look, including a cockatrice that was turning her to stone. That's what they mean by her "stare." Interceptor is probably the primary reason for this casting choice, though I wish he'd been changed into her pet white rabbit, Angel. I assume all those instances of Shadow ditching the party will be rewritten as Fluttershy's cowardice. This scene is the only interesting thing in Canterlot City right now, so let's move on. Pony: I heard Greymane's son, Banner, is missing as well. I have a bad feeling about this...\ That cabin north of town is largely unchanged. I don't think Greymane or Banner are based on cannon ponies. The team heads off to Mt. Kolts Colts. Well that was an easy pun. |

Celestia: Luna? Is she here? Apple Bloom: I saw somepony following us, was that you? Banner: Luna isn't welcome here, and neither are you! I know his color scheme isn't his fault (except the headband) but I'd be inclined to beat this pony up just for that. Luckily he's a jerk who wants to kill us, so there's a legitimate reason as well. Hooray justified violence! Autocrossbow and two mares flinging Fire make this battle go by incredibly quickly. Banner: Enough! Off with ya now! Luna: VILLAIN, THY TIME HAS COME! Banner: YOU FOAL! Mast chose YOU to take over the dojo, I will correct her mistake! Luna: TIS A LIE!! GREYMANE WOULD NOT DISHONOR THEE! Banner: How can I trust you!? You were clearly her favorite! Luna: MAST GREYMANE KNEW WE WOULD LEAVE ONCE OUR TRAINING WAS COMPLETE. SHE EXPECTED THOU TO CONTINUE HER DOJO AFTER SHE RETIRED! Banner: You'll be leaving, indeed! Now, die to my superior technique! Did I mention Luna has no indoor voice? And speaks with the royal we? And speaks with all those medieval "thee" and "thou"s? ...Oh no, I just realized this will justify keeping the "Mr Thou" routine later. Banner: Master's teachings are wasted on you! Allow me to silence you once and for all! Luna pummels him, just like Sabin, but it's called Teitetsu. A quick Googling says that means "Iron Hoof", which is both terrible and hilarious. I can't think of any good reason for Luna to have Blitz except perhaps changing the win condition on this battle was too difficult. If I had to pick one pony to get Blitz, it would be Applejack. She kicks trees for a living. Second choice would be Fluttershy because of that thing with the bear. Banner: W... What the...?! She... already taught you that?! Luna: THY LIFE IS FORFEIT... Ugh. Thank you for that, Twilight. Luna: IS IT NOT OBVIOUS? THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN APART FOR MANY YEARS, WE ARE SISTERS INDEED! SISTER, WHAT BRINGEST THOU HERE? Celestia: We're on the way to the Luna mountains. Luna: YOU ARE FINALLY MOBILIZING THE REPUBLIC?! WE HAVE BEEN TRAINING FOR THIS VERY MOMENT... IT SEEMS WE WERE CORRECT, THE TIME HAS COME TO DESTROY THE EMPIRE! Celestia: Yes, we MUST defeat the Empire. They're going to take over the world if we do nothing... Luna: WE ARE HONORED TO ASSIST THEE IN THY QUEST! Celestia: Luna! Let us join together in friendship! Luna: MASTER HAS TAUGHT US WELL, OUR SKILLS WILL SURELY ASSIST US IN OUR QUEST! Apple Bloom: Let's get galloping! Luna comes off as really bloodthirsty, eh? She has Sabin's Blitz ability and the ability to use magic since she's an alicorn. She doesn't start with any spells, but we'll see if any mysteriously appear like Celestia's Fire. Did the mountains with the Returner's hideout ever have a name in FF6? I don't recall one and "Luna mountains" seems like an odd choice. But that will just have to wait until next time, when we check out this Lunar Republic thing and meet our new Banon. |

Also, if this is built from the SNES version, the Goggles really will do nothing since Blind is bugged to have no effect. |

Yes, it's the SNES version. If there are multiple SNES versions I don't know which (isn't there a "we fixed the bugs" fan version?)
