And now you know why the ROM hacker didn't pick a more prominent character for Gestahl.

The fish spot is there in both the WoB and the WoR, and with the same 2 enemies in both. It's a good way to grind AP fast if you just want to hold down A and a turbo speed button

No, it's not in the real game, so unless you've been playing this mod for two decades you didn't miss anything.

I vaguely recall the GBA version adding in one more underwater battle in the WoR, possibly to get one of the new espers they added. Can someone with a better memory confirm that? |

If you take the ship from one of the towns (can't remember which) you can fight Leviathan. I don't think he's that hard, either, assuming you have Thundaga on more than one character, but I could be misremembering that.

The ship is South Figaro to somewhere. Absorbing or cancelling water will also trivialize the fight.

So... not much left... Except an oddly reddish seagull. And a hut. With really bright flowers considering the bleak near-dead world that produced them. Or maybe fake flowers were the only things to get through the apocalypse unscathed. Sethisto: For one year, actually... I thought you'd never wake up... Trixie: A whole year... You... took care of Trixie? Sethisto: Yeah, but it wasn't easy... We're on a tiny, deserted island. After the world crumbled, I awoke to find us here together with a few strangers. Trixie: So the bastard really did it, he blew it all up... Do you know where the others are? Sethisto: I don't know. I only know we're here... Maybe we're the only ponies left alive... It's as if the world itself has given up... Nothing grows, and the animals are almost gone now... The few others who were here died of starvation, or committed suicide... Trixie: I missed my chance to end all this... to kill that monster... You stabbed him pretty good, missy. Nopony can say you didn't try. That's kind of creepy actually. There was potential for creepy in the original but the "grandpa" thing diffused it. Trixie's stalker has her unconscious in bed for a whole year? Inappropriate fanart is probably the least of our concerns. Sethisto: Really? I mean, of course! Cough... Wheeze... Trixie: Trixie's #1 fan... Sethisto: Ha, ha... hack... cough! Trixie: Hey, are you hungry? Sethisto: I... haven't eaten in three or so days, ever since I became ill. Trixie: What's left to eat? Sethisto: Well, unless I ask for fish, I won't get anything! That's all there is here! Trixie: Trixie will catch some with her amazing magic! Trixie knows Summon Bigger Fish? Cool! Trixie briefly shows off her fishing skills but I have no interest in saving that creeper so she quickly gives up. Amassing a collection of dead ones to feed him is too much trouble so instead I explore the island. Mmm... sickly squirrels... Considering ponies are herbivores, it's amazing not-Cid survived as long as he did. I've still got at least a hundred apples in my knapsack so I think Trixie will be fine for a while. Trixie: No... NO!! You promised you'd stay here with me!! Hey, ANSWER ME! Tell Trixie you're just joking! I'll go ahead and transcribe the on-screen text when it's extra annoying to read like this. Sethisto: Those others who were here... when they had enough of Discord's new world, they climbed to the top of the cliff and jumped. It was all over in a moment... Trixie: Everyone's... gone... Discord, that bastard... I let him get away, kill all my friends... and destroy the whole world... I gave it my all, and in the end, I couldn't even save... ONE... pony... I guess I was really the weak... and powerless... Trixie... all along... When I was a kid, we named that bird. It was our end of the world pet. And then it died. And we named a hamster after it. And it escaped during cage cleaning and got eaten by the cat. Sorry, angst-ruining tangent is ruining the angst. Trixie: Wait, is that a ribbon?? Impossible... Hey, bird! Where'd you get this?! Is the pony who healed you still alive? Answer Trixie! I'll give that much to Apple Bloom as Locke. She has an accessory you could tie to a bird. If you're dead, Trixie will cure you to death! Letter: You need to leave! The others are surely waiting for you! Find the stairs next to the stove. Down them lies your road to freedom. Love, Seth Trixie: Trixie will show you what she's made of! And we're off... |

Man, this whole bit kind of loses it's oomph when it's an ancillary character and and a fan-wank ponification.

I wonder if it wouldn't have been too hard for them to hack the whole fish minigame out. Seems like you'd just need to set a flag or two.

Hah.
Anyway, this update more or less confirms my previous belief that Sweetie Belle would have made a much more natural fit for Celes, and Rarity should have been Cid. (Rarity would have been creating magically infused fashion for the Empire, if you must know.) |

Super short update, ahoy!!
Baltimare DESTRUCTION AND SHOUTING!! Luna: NEIGH!! OUR MIGHTY FRAME HAS TAKEN THE BURDEN OF THIS SUNDERED GIRDER! FIRST THOU MUST RESCUE THE INNOCENT FOAL LOCATED THEREIN! WE CANNOT MAINTAIN THIS FOREVER, DO NOT TARRY! Oh I will SHOW you what tarrying looks like! Some items have an @ symbol instead of a space when you pick them up. Not sure why but it goes away in menus. I'm sure our new crop of romhack experts would have some clue. I don't think I've ever actually used a magicite item. It's random and rare, so I want to horde them and wouldn't risk using them in a pinch either! Oops, don't forget the brat! Remember kids: When destruction rains down from the heavens, don't hide on top the fireplace. Luna: BUT OF COURSE! WE HAVE TRAINED FOR JUST SUCH AN OCCASION! Trixie: For a moment, Trixie allowed herself to think the game was over...! But now, we can search for our... friends... Luna: Correct! We shall defeat Discord once and for all, and give the gift of peace to our citizens! Luna's return to capslock was not PTSD after all and her volume returned to normal as soon as the crisis ended. The World of Ruin's mostly-nonlinear episodic nature is going to lead to lots of short updates like this, depending on the length of the sequence. I'm going along "in order" right now but once we get the airship I'll recruit everypony as popularity dictates. Difficulty will knock certain ponies down the list until the roster is a little more filled in. I'm not hunting down Apple Bloom with 2-pony parties. |

Recruit the hell out of Fluttershy as soon as is possible.

Honestly, aside from Rainbow Dash (and Spike, who isn't in this hack :<), I don't really care all that much. That said, uh. Get the Mane Six out of the way, at least.

I feel like there's a vague suggested order that nobody ever comments on. I mean, you get the airship, and the bird leads you to Zozo. Cyan comments to Gau going back to the Veldt, and you find Shadow/Relm in the Veldt cave. Then you can do the Jidoor sequence to get Relm, which includes the clue to finding the Phoenix Cave in Ghestal's painting. So stop by Fanatic's Tower to get Strago, then get Locke with your 8-person party. Then take Locke to Narshe, have him unlock the doors as per Lone Wolf's suggestion, and get Mog and Umaro. It's still wide open and you're not really restricted to this sequence, but I feel like the game does drive you towards your next destination for a while, even after you get the airship.

There was also the original map that came with the SNES version that had all the locations in a numbered order that I'm pretty sure follows that path.

Faust first, then Fluttershy, Scootaloo, Twilight, Derpy - after that whichever pony you want to go for ^_^

Mane 6, then I don't care.

I plan to pick up everypony and hopefully do all the other sidequests. I understand the hack adds some more optional bosses but I don't know anything about them. I'll look them up later and decide if they're reasonable enough to attempt.
I'll probably go with Beowulf's suggestion unless there's a big demand for somepony in particular. |
