Firefly is also the pony who eventually mutated into the modern-day Rainbow Dash.

I must have played FF6 a dozen times, and three different version of it, and I never knew about that Setzer/Cid scene!

Today's horse pun is trying to be stealthy, hiding in the middle of the town name. Who does that pony mean, a unicorn who's good with animals? Fluttershy's already in the party...



Oh of course, the pony whose cat regularly tries to murder her!

Rarity: Espers? Whatever do you mean, darling?
Apple Bloom: Don't be silly, ya just have to open a history book to at least know what they're supposed to be...
Rarity: I'm afraid we don't have time for ancient history around here. I will never become a great fashion designer if I sit around and read dusty old books!



The last member of the Mane Six, Rarity is vane and dramatic and inexplicably represents the element of generosity. In the Friendship is Dragons screenshots-as-D&D webcomic, she achieved that role by accident and was actually supposed to be chaotic evil. That portrayal isn't too different from how she is in the show.

There are only a few families in FiM where multiple members are prominent enough to be playable characters. And these two are the only pair to also be magically inclined (besides Celestia and Luna.)



Sweetie Belle is the last Cutie Mark Crusader. Her special talent is obviously singing but she doesn't have the nerve to sing in front of anyone but close friends and family so her cutie mark has yet to appear. If this game had a bard, she would get the Sing ability. Her nickname here is rather unfortunate: "Sweety". Unfortunate mostly because I read it as "Sweaty" every single time.



While Rarity is all grace and poise, Sweetie Belle is not and her job is to embarrass Rarity whenever possible by saying or doing inappropriate things.



The Cutie Mark Crusaders once had a slumber party at Fluttershy's cottage. That's about all the interaction those two have had. I'm not sure how the bonus scenes later on are going to play out so as not to be stupid... Though, to be honest, I don't think I've ever gotten them all myself.

Rarity: Sweetie Belle, watch your tone! I am still your big sister.
Sweetie Belle: Oh all right... [goes upstairs with the dog]
Rarity: Hm, she certainly seems to like your pet...
Sweetie Belle: What a sweet puppy!



Rarity: Please pay her no mind, she's easily excited.
Apple Bloom: Hmmm...
Rarity: I'm afraid I simply cannot tell you anything about "espers" because nopony here knows anything about them.

Angel is the name of Fluttershy's pet bunny and it sure took a long time to name him in this game despite there being no other alternative to use. I still think Interceptor should have been turned into an actual bunny, but since he probably shares sprites with all those guard dogs in the Imperial Camp and elsewhere that might have an odd effect on the world as a whole...

Guard bunnies would be awesome though. And they'd still bark of course.

As far as FiM has shown, Sweetie Belle's a pretty terrible artist. If Sketch wasn't necessary for an upcoming fight, I'd vote to remove it entirely. I'm not sure what I'd replace it with since there's no Sing command but Sketch just doesn't sit well with me.



Colt: N'ga! Oh no!

When I was compiling a list of missable scenes, I was surprised to see some people didn't know these were here. Sounds crazy to me. How can you proceed with the story without exploring every last inch of the town looking for treasure?! They don't wait until after meeting Strago/Rarity to be active either. They can be triggered any time before you stay at the inn.



Mama: ... medicine... where is my cure medicine?!

Filly: Mama! Please use cure on me!



Rarity: She was at a neighbor's house when a fire broke out! Of all the worst things that could happen... This is... THE. WORST! POSSIBLE! THING! I really mean it this time!

Rarity is a drama queen, but this game doesn't play it up properly. Sweetie Belle mentioning magic was bad. Sweetie Belle trapped in a burning house is bad. In the show, Rarity declares things like loosing a particular ribbon to be the "Worst Possible Thing!" Really really minor things.

When Rarity says "Hurry" she really means "Check out my stats!"



Lore has turned into Sorcery and the stats are pretty much what I expect at this point. I've never really bothered with Lore but Strago was hardly my sort of character. I really like Rarity so maybe I'll give it a shot this time.



I'm pretty sure the Flame Eater's battle script was rewritten. For one, it regenerated 200+ HP every round and no walkthroughs I've seen mention that. It used Wall on itself eventually but never tried to bounce anything back at me.

I also discovered the Medkit Tool can be made to target all allies. This is so brokenly good, I will be sad that Apple Bloom is so hard to reacquire in the World of Ruin.

Rarity: Sweety!!!!!

Rarity's exclamation points coming to you uncensored!!! It bugs me that the party is fixed here yet some dialog is unassigned.



The plausibility of this rescue is questionable. The only reason I'll buy it is because Angel is also trapped in the fire. Fluttershy hasn't been in the party enough to form a strong enough friendship with anypony else to jump into a burning building after them.

Fluttershy: Oh my goodness! Oh my goodness! Let's get you out of here!



Rarity: Save your thanks for these ponies!
Sweetie Belle: Thank you...
Rarity: I suppose there's no use maintaining the charade now...
Apple Bloom: So what's the deal? Y'all have been able to use magic this whole time?
Rarity: This is... the village of the Unicorn Knights... Many years ago, unicorns knew much more powerful magic than they do today... The tacky cantrips and ability to lift tiny objects are all most unicorns are capable of today.
Apple Bloom: But I thought unicorns only had a little bit of magic that related to their special talent?
Rarity: Nonsense! Unicorns once controlled the sun and stars themselves! But then came the Chaos War... after that war, the espers went into hiding. They created their own realm, and forbade anypony else to enter, especially the Unicorn Knights... The earth ponies and pegasi blamed all unicorns for the war... Soon Unicorns were being rounded up in internment camps. Some "lucky" ones were banished, and the rest... executed...
Twilight Sparkle: Just because you knew magic?
Rarity: Some of the Unicorn Knights escaped the purge and founded this town. Those who had been captures had to stop practicing magic or be punished severely. Many chose to hide their horns... some... even ground them off, tried to live as earth ponies...
Twilight Sparkle: How horrible...
Apple Bloom: Listen, I know it's kind of sudden, but history's about to repeat itself here... Can y'all please help us?
Rarity: Hm, I'm not a big fan of... "outdoor sports"... But I owe you for saving Sweetie Belle. Let's do this!



Rarity: I mean, no, thank you, Sweetie Belle. Wait here and stay out of trouble, ok?
Sweetie Belle: That sounds so boring...
Apple Bloom: But... where do we start?
Rarity: Hmm... there's a mountain range to the west we should check...
Apple Bloom: Why there?
Rarity: Those mountains have powerful magical properties. They say the espers were created there...
Twilight Sparkle: Maybe they're drawn to that place?
Apple Bloom: Sounds like just the place!



Oh, I guess that kinda confirms my "did it all for the puppy" thought. This dialog is so Fluttershy-ish I hear it in her voice.



Bye-bye puppy! And yellow pony!

Does it bother anyone else that Strago can't actually cast Ice? Especially since AquaRake works just as well if not better in that scene.

I hope you get all the Fluttershy dreams.

Friendship is Magic has a scene where a pony faints as she is overrun by bunnies.

Guard Bunnies is not a hard concept to accept in this context.

The burning building was one of my favorite spots in WoB... I trained Rarity to learn all the magic via the respawning enemy door, by the time I was done I had her at lvl 38... I just murdered the rest of the WoB and most of the WoR afterwards, besides the upgraded bosses

Blue magic is probably at its weakest in FFVI. You gain access to far too late, there are lots of spells that are either tricky to get, rare to find, or appear too late to ever even be of practical use. To top it off, none of it is ever anything any of the ladies can't top with some old fashioned black magic and an earring or two.

Still, Pearl Wind and Big Guard are pretty cool.

This cave was not here when I was hunting down Gaia Gears. I am forced to assume espers busted a hole in the mountain on their way in. Espers are known for their subtlety. Just like Sweetie Belle.



Twilight Sparkle: Hm, they look ancient...
Apple Bloom: Ah kin see some writing carved on th' backa this one. Rarity, you ready to share some'a that ancient history yer not s'posed to know about?
Rarity: Oh please Apple Bloom, I said I'd help you didn't I? A lady NEVER breaks her word. These idols, if they are what I think they are, represent 3 goddesses who are the stewards of untold magical potency.
Apple Bloom: So they're a warning fer somethin'?
Rarity: They're... a record, if nothing else.
Twilight Sparkle: I can feel them radiating magic...
Rarity: These idols are only a shadow of the statues they represent.

Rarity: Not even we Unicorn Knights know that... I'd say they're beyond teh sealed gate...
Twilight Sparkle: Hm, I wonder if the Statues maintain the barrier to the esper world?

If you kept your levels low enough until this point, Relm joins at a very low level with a good magic stat that could be pumped up with espers, turning her into a god. Without esper bonuses, Sweetie Belle will forever be the 4th best mage. She still has the best speed among the unicorns but I'm not sure a three point difference is going to actually matter.





Twilight Sparkle: I didn't think they'd look so...
Apple Bloom: Rarity, take Sweetie Belle and skedaddle!

Yura: We bolted the moment Twilight Sparkle opened the gate. But once in your world, we lost control of our powers. We completely leveled a city... and took some innocent lives...

Rarity: There simply must be a different aura that keeps your powers under control in your realm. You must be careful here!

The romhack website claims to not "ship" Apple Bloom/Trixie. Neglecting to rewrite this scene to remove the blushing throws that out the window.



In the Series of Unfortunate Events books, there's always a passage shortly before the end where Lemony Snickett urges readers to close the book and pretend it ends there with happily ever after. And then everything goes to hell. We've officially passed that moment.

It's better than the awkward possibly-flirting but still odd. Maybe Sweetie Belle's only seen the Princess Celestia toys and expected her to be a pink pony.

I figure it's a common last name in the Esper world, like Smith. So that would be John. John Bahamut.

Wait... is this evidence for Sketch being renamed to Sing/Lullaby at some point?

DAMMIT I SHOULD NOT BE FINDING TCRF CONTENT IN PONY ROMHACKS

It does seem like Sketch -> Sing was intended at some point but nobody could figure out how. The sketch animation would have to be redone and then... what? Was she improvising songs about every enemy? And how would they make her WoR story work?

Acting like Sweetie Belle's singing is a thing to be feared, without changing Sketch, is really weird.

I have a feeling they had a list of things they wanted to do but couldn't figure out how. Or couldn't recruit a skilled enough hacker. Dialog, sprites, skill sets/stats, and a few battle scripts are all that have been changed from what I can tell.

I dunno. It's a six-month hack, and it really shows in places like this.

Gilda: Man I can't believe we tricked all those espers! Those statues should be just ahead... When we get those under our control, the whole world will be ours! C'mon dude!



This is not time for your one-sided rivalry, Trixie!



Gilda: Now THIS is truly radical! You and me Discord, we'll be unstoppable!



Rarity: If the three statues should ever be moved out of alignment, the resulting imbalance of power would rearrange the face of our planet...
Twilight Sparkle: What?!

Here's where Rarity-as-Strago feels weird. Rarity explaining all this crazy magic history and world destroying potential doesn't really suit somepony who specializes in the trivial (fashion for those whose default is naked.)

Before proceeding with ignoring the plot (for all of two pictures), let's see what out buddies have to say. Most are repeats from before so they are skipped.

Trixie: Trixie may have been forced to serve the empire, but Trixie is still allowed to hate it!
Rarity: Darling, I have spent most of my life in a tiny village... but I've never seen anypony as uncouth as Discord!
Sweetie Belle: I know! I could sing them a lullaby!
Scootaloo: We're on a crusade... a mission!



Going back to Thamaresa with Rarity triggers this conversation, giving a little foreshadowing to a later sidequest. Charity is named after a character in Twilight Sparkle's fanfiction in Friendship Is Witchcraft.

Rarity: Ch... Charity?!
Charity: Is that you, Rarity? Have you come back to hunt Hidon? Ha, she'll never change! When you were younger you hunted Hidon, the legendary monster. But you quit before you found it...
Rarity: Pony, please! That uncouth ruffian INSISTS on hiding in that damp dusty cave...
Charity: You never could give me an honest answer. What a buffoon!!

If you talk to Charity without Rarity, someone in the party calls Rarity a diva.



Sweet Apple Castle is ripe for the looting and has one peculiar addition: A fish you can interact with, triggering a water-background battle. So Scootaloo's round-the-world trip is no longer necessary to pick up Water Rondo. Presumably the fish is still present later so you can't miss out on Water Rondo.

Rarity and Pinkie Pie go off to train at the Veldt, with some unnecessary stealing by Apple Bloom and the occasional sketchy assist by Sweetie Belle. I ran out of patience but by the end of this update Rarity has all the first world Lores except Dischord and Blow Fish.



My party: Twilight Sparkle, Apple Bloom, and Rarity.

It's the Imperial Airforce! They're all over the place, we have to fight our way through!

There's no indication any other time that the Empire has an air force. Before they attacked our airship with construction equipment and that's it. I just think if you're gonna have an air force, show it off like the Red Wings instead of only using it for a single plot sequence.

Something... curious... approaches!!



Go away, Ultros!!

The rushing clouds battle background gives me a headache and after playing through this part right before bed I had dreams of ponies with lasers.



"We thought you were a goner!"

Hooray Fluttershy! I bought like eighty scrolls before coming here because I had ridiculous amounts of money and magic damage is pretty necessary here. The Hardened has randomly been renamed "Hummingway" which is pretty odd. I know it's named after the FF4 moon bunnies but WHY??



After wandering lost for a while, heeeeere's UltimaWeapon!

This battle takes FOREVER! Long enough I even remember to steal another Blue Ribbon (because Ribbon was not colorful enough) towards the end.



Wait weren't you crippled and unconscious a second ago? Fluttershy! Come back!!

Gilda: Well, you're too late dude, show's already over! We've reached the Statues first!

I really hate timed segments. Yes, I totally fail my first attempt through here. My magic-heavy team was great going in but isn't so great on the way out, since the Naughties randomly absorb elements. I think that's new. They're not challenging, just time consuming. Apple Bloom's Drill gets a lot of use right now.



I never realized this chest could actually be opened, since the ground crumbles if you try to approach it from the west. Not that it's exciting loot, just clockmaking components.



You know what this timed section needs? More timers!

So, I stopped by Toys R Us earlier today, hoping to find the Nightmare Moon pony set or the glow in the dark Zecora toy. Didn't find either and they couldn't even find them in the system. Very frustrating. Those are Toys R Us exclusives so I don't have many options nearby for finding them.



They did have talking Celestia toys, properly white this time around. She says obnoxious things like "My mane is pretty!" There's also a talking Pinkie Pie that, instead of being button activated, shouts at you every time walk by. "HI I'M PINKIE PIE!!" Ugh. Please don't stoop to Elmo's level, Pinkie Pie.



Freaking finally!

Fluttershy: I really appreciate having friends who wouldn't leave me on a big scary floating island that's about to crash into the ground!
