I'd like to see a few shots of the VGA game, but I'd much rather you move on to QfG II with the same caharacter. Fighters stay fairly boring straightforward throughout the series.

As much as I have a fondness for fighters, they are pretty straightforward, so I'll agree with UUDD, and say I'd like for you to show some shots of the VGA fighter maybe, and then move on to QfG 2. Though, I wonder if you're going to show off the Paladin in QfG 2 and on, and how that's going to work if you do.

Back when I was a wee lad and first playing these games I went through each game as each class (so after two four times through each game) I still have those saved character files.

You can totally be a Paladin with any class, but with the Thief you lose the ability to steal from the townsfolk. You still can use the Thief skillset on baddies, though!

Heh, I still wish I had all my saved games, all of mine are on floppies, which are a pain to get at. Good way to handle seeing some of the variations.

Ah yeah, I remember my brothers running into that problem come to think of it. Though, I never knew how becoming a Paladin would affect Thief stuff, they'd always just reload and fiddle around a little to make sure it didn't happen.

Why would you ever do that? The Paladin offers very little and you lose all the cool thievery!

So many tantalizing choices....I'll defer to the hive mind, since any option is sure to be a winner.

You'd do it if you're a big overgrown Boy Scout like I am who prefers the slightly more lateral approaches to puzzles that the Thief class offers?

You guys, I am so so bad at being bad in games. I'm the WORST at it.

I agree with Nodal. Actually, I found becoming a paladin very difficult because it relied on actions I wasn't used to taking (going through the front entrance of the Emir's palace instead of the harem, for instance). I was frustrated because I'd been able to grind my Honor up to 200 by giving coins to the beggars, but it had no effect on the ending. I actually had to consult an FAQ to get a list of things to do.

Also this. I must end EVERY QfG game with a few maxed out skills, No Matter What.

But it's wasteful cause when you import your character into the next game it bumps up any low level stats anyway... In order to make them comparable to newly created characters

That ending...meh. I've come to expect Sierra antagonists to be taken out in the most ridiculous ways possible (shame you didn't have an asshole genie onhand), but the ending's just all "Yay! Baba Yaga's gone, and the king's kids are back to normal! Let's fly on a magic carpet with a minor NPC and some cat people to the sequel hook!"

Oh well, guess those kinda endings are the norm for Sierra, too. It's still fun to watch these LPs. Seeing the VGA fighter run would be nice. It's interesting to see the differences between versions.

That only happens in QfG 4 and 5, unless I'm mistaken.

Thanks dude, great LP! My vote is for QFG2, since I've never even gotten a chance to play it

Trial by Fire is my favorite QfG in every respect. My for-reals vote is to skip to it, then to play it every way possible.

Oh hell yes. That game was absolutely fantastic, I loved it so much as a teenager. That said, I could never figure out how to become a paladin, even with the help of a guide. So frustrating! I wanted to get that flaming sword, too...

You can't become a paladin until you beat the game. So you can't actually play as a paladin in Trial by Fire.

Disappointingly, QfG3 played paladins as identical to fighters, so while thieves and wizards got exclusive content, the only difference between a fighter and a paladin was whether your sword was on fire. Also, haggling is dishonorable?

Probably because QfG3 was more or less shoehorned in to give the team more time to work on QfG4. Unfortunately, it also messes up the thematic rhythm of each game:

So You Want To Be A Hero - Spring
Trial By Fire - Summer
Shadows of Darkness - Fall
Dragon Fire - Winter

I believe they intended for the hero to return to Spielburg in the winter for the fourth game. I can't say as to whether or not they were originally going to call it Dragon Fire.

Sadly, after the second game they stupidly locked you out of other the other classes' sidequest. Way to show off your content guys. On class changes, I refereshed my memory by reading some faqs, and if you want to do a magic duel you can change to a magic user for part 3. The thief in part 3 kinda sucks, the only thing remotely neat is the direct solution to the stolen artifacts problem(you steal them back yourself, no honoring their tribal ways bs). You probably want to change back to a thief for part 4, because trying to change back in part 5 would zero out your non-thief skills. Probably due to the rushed development, the thief quests are practically the only class specific content in 5. Magic users just get a staff so they can call themselves full feldged wizards, yay, and fighters and paladins get next to nothing.

You don't really want to play five, actually. The game is such a huge letdown from how awesome four is.

Too late! I thought it was much better than nothing. Cool setting and music. And if you're a magic user you can levitate into a rotating blade.

I quite enjoyed QfG3, although I wouldn't rate it as highly as I do the first two games. Sadly, I've never had the chance to play the fourth game (when the hell is that going to be rereleased on GOG??), and the very small amount of the 5th game that I played left a really bad taste in my mouth. Some day I really need to dedicate the time to a complete run of games 1-4 again, but there are only so many hours in the day, and there are hundreds of new games competing for my time...

B-but fighters and paladins got to use all those nifty weapons. Nevermind that the series was never about loot collecting, the weapons all felt the same, and the paladin's starting weapon justifiably outclassed 99% of them.

Yeah, five was a letdown, and was very much in an odd place between older adventure games, and newer action RPGs, where everything felt pretty weird. I have fond memories of three, even if part of that's due to being the only game besides five where you can see that your sword is on fire (unless our version of four was bugged, which is likely, since we had the disk-based version).

That's not entirely true. Any character with the pick locks skill can do the thief quests in QFG4.

Not to mention that QFG5 had probably the least pleasant graphics to look at. It existed in that awkward age between 2D and 3D. I remember seeing previews for it in InterAction magazine, which boasted the game would have fully-rendered figures in interactive locales... which turned out to be segmented puppets on JPEG-artifact stage sets.

Also, I never managed to marry Elsa, even after consulting an FAQ.

Just looked it up, the floppy version didn't get that bit of art (and probably had some other bugs, like being able to cast force bolt in battle as a paladin which I remember). Well, now to track down the QfG anthology, since I'm tired of holding out for a re-release...

I was going to start the Misadventures of ARGHHH the Fighter last night but for some reason Dosbox isn't capturing any sound with the VGA version of QFG1...

Anyone have any ideas as to why?
