I'd say a Wizard using modern graphics named Action "Thriller" Jackson.

Dunno how many characters you have for name space, but I'm recommending Mancomb Seepgood.

Thief magician!
And I think I'll go with retro graphics on this one, since that's where my nostalgia lies. I am kind of curious to know what the VGA version looks like, though - any possibility of doing a few comparisons in various locales? |

I think the magic thief made a lot of sense. It felt devious to be doing the twee wizard stuff while you're moonlighting as a crook on the side. And who has thief as a job title? You need some kind of cover story. Plus any thief would love to get access to magic spells from the dumb wizards, or maybe you're just a magician gone bad. Not to mention using magic means you'll be remembered as a trickster demi-god. No one played fighter-thief because the thief is already a fighter really. I only got the parry skill so I could do the sparring minigame.
Eff paladins though, you're already the hero who never does anything thuggish(besides rob people), you had to follow some hidden rules so you could be a slightly magical fighter, woo. The only cool paladins are whatever the equivalent is in Warhammer 40K, who probably drink blood or something. |

Poll Results as of Right now
The up-to-results from my highly sophisticated vote counting algorithm are as shown:
I'm going to close the polls tomorrow afternoon so if you really want to see your version win out, then go bug other tyrants and get them to vote or just complain, loudly, that seems to work for Sarah Palin... Last edited by Falselogic; 10-13-2011 at 08:24 PM. |

I'll attempt to swing the vote VGA's way. If the difference is anything like that in KQI, VGA's got to be the way to go.

The Amazing Rando, or Amazing Rando if that's too long, or Rando if even that's too long.

Also, EGA, because it makes you look like Robert Plant.

Put down another vote for EGA. I wasn't going to vote, but I didn't think there'd be any danger of the VGA version actually winning.
And if I may make a plea to try and swing some other votes: I only played this game for the first time a couple of years ago at my SO's insistence, since it was a childhood favorite of hers, so there's absolutely no nostalgia linked to this preference. I gave both versions a test drive to see what I preferred. Beyond the fact that there's some actual mechanical differences I didn't care for (some of the puzzles and the combat engine, IIRC), the EGA version just seemed to have more character. It's not nearly as bad as the phoned-in HD graphics we get on some 360 ports/remakes (I'm looking at you, Half-Minute Hero), and is in fact an excellent remake, but it just seems comparatively lifeless given how much charm the orignal has. The EGA artwork (particularly some of the monster sprites) is really impressive, and I'd hate for people who aren't familiar with the game at all to miss out on it. Cheetaurs look pretty good in the VGA version, but in the EGA version they're nightmare fuel. Last edited by JBear; 10-14-2011 at 09:26 AM. Reason: Cheetaurs keep me up at night |

For the name, I'm seconding Mancomb Seepgood, assuming that you have enough spaces for that.

Okay, I'm convinced; please flip my vote to EGA.

Fine. Keep your EGAs, but know this: once he gets to Wages of War there will be no choice!!!! Your days of pixels are numbered!

QFG3 is the weakest of the series anyway, so not like it matters
There is no QFG5 |

THE POLLS ARE CLOSED
The final tally:
EGA: 11 VGA: 9 EGA it is. But, because I love this game so much I might be persuaded to play through the VGA version as well just to show you lucky people some of the differences. I know I ruined this whole gag by starting with the best one Last edited by Falselogic; 10-15-2011 at 12:13 AM. |
