SaGa Frontier Remastered

To be fair, that part is in Baccarat where it's extremely easy to keep going through screens of identical floors and not knowing what the hell is the deal.
Hey, that’s what I was doing! I did accurately identify A BlackX operative (my mission) near the auto-air kiss woman and later some others on a floor and apparently I needed to talk to several in a row. I’m learning.
You're giving up after 5 minutes?
No, but I should really know better than to post.

I actually don’t think the toggle that stops the fast battle when you learn a skill was on by default for me. (Glimmer Settings started on Off)

I am now at the point where T260G has choices of where to go. Not gonna try to do everything but I will get some exploring in before I finish up all three of my current leads.

Ugh yeah I wanna get this and play it. Reject backlogs, return to new releas

Hmm, top contenders for who I want to play first are Blue, T260G, and Asellus...

Local ruffians are negging Red about his haircut and I should really go to sleep and am not sure when I can next really play this. Distressing.

This does not matter (afaik) but I think the game clock is still running when the Switch is suspended. Wonder if the same happens on other platforms. Unless something else is going on?

Rune magic means you will go to prison.

Arcane magic means you will get tipsy as hell and drunkenly stumble through a jungle of deadly, sober monsters.

I know my choice.

I am glad I read this spoiler because this is important shit to know and I am delighted.

Speaking of Arcane magic, be sure to try this quest with T260G at least once. Robots can't learn magic but they also can't get drunk so it makes the associated events fun in a whole other way.

What even is Evil magic? All the times I've played through Blue I don't believe I've ever seen it, but it's supposed to be opposed with Mind? And there's also Life and Mirage magic? What?? I must've never paid attention to the library in the Magic Kingdom much...

there are technically 12 schools of magic but several are character-specific. evil magic is unique to zomza, a mystic that i think is exclusive to asellus's scenario, and mirage is unique to a character from asellus's scenario (and also it's terrible - it's literally just the mystic "phantasm shot" but you get to pick which phantasm you summon)

Robuddy is tasked with finding out what he’s supposed to be doing by visiting a mall.

This robot speaks to me, and I regret swapping out his body for a clunkier one with better stats.

Outside of a couple of boss fights, my party is also strong enough that no fight has lasted more than two turns, and this being SaGa, I’m sure my hubris will be punished shortly

Oooof I forgot Riki’s second boss is wildly out of depth. I’m wondering if I should grind or abandon the scenario for now.

Which is the second boss you're facing? I ended up in Tanzer to fight my second boss. There's enough RNG involved in it that I squeaked by on my fourth attempt, but if I hadn't done the lightest bit of junk shop exploitation in Scrap, T260 probably couldn't have carried me through.

As far as I know the second boss is the same regardless of what you try to do. I might have to revert to an earlier save to gear up a bit more, because the fight is literally impossible in my current loadout.

Okay that explains why I'm not familiar with those (I haven't really played Asellus much). But what about Life magic? The book says only people who master Shadow and Light can use it, which uhhhhhh ????? I'm guessing that's another character-specific school.

Life magic is a trick of one character's plotline. If you need to know the answer: it's what Blue and only Blue (or maybe Rouge) can use after he merges into one being that knows both Shadow and Light. It's a cool trick, but you can only do it once.

Games visual style really feels like a fancier Mario RPG; really makes it stand out from other PS1 era Square games.

I started Emilia's scenario and got lost in the intro dungeon, but while I was running around failing to dodge the enemies there, Liza sparked Slide, which is the DSC component that's supposed to be hardest for her to learn, so that's nice. The boss had some ridiculous amount of HP, like 5000+ when the normal enemies had around 100, but Slide and Smash, which Annie sparked on her first attack on the boss, would combo for around 800, so it didn't end up taking too long. Gonna try to get the rune gift, which will probably get me eaten by Tanzer before I'm really ready for it.

The upscaled backgrounds and new sprites look really nice. Being able to see the full stats of equipment, along with skill descriptions, is very helpful, but a lot of things have new names that will take some getting used to.

I only had time to play for an hour or so last night, but I've had the music stuck in my head all day. This game rules.

My prediction came true!

The random battles in the jungle ruins were no trouble, but the bosses are a different kettle of fish all together; I’m assuming the giant slime is a puzzle boss of some stripe

Finished Asellus. On the remaster additions: I didn't spot any more! Unless they're really out of the way, everything past the opening section played out as before. I even got the same ending of the three as in my first playthrough, the half-mystic one, which is all well and good as I love that one. But yeah, don't expect some giant overhaul here, and I'm glad nothing much was changed because in a game that's so structurally experimental and inventive on a base level, Asellus's story is one of the highlights and remains so.

New Game+ is going to expedite replaying the rest of the game so much. It's really thoroughly customizable too; 13 different checkboxes to choose from in what carries over.

Playing through the robot encounter and it is really frustrating when an enemy looks like a regular trash mob but they are really an invincible super boss far beyond anything else in the game.

Oh thank goodness, the Junk Shop glitch is still there, which makes me hopeful that the other exploit probably still works. I am glad the game will let me break it if I want to. And since they kept it in, it’s now a feature, not a bug!

after having a real bad time in the yorkland swamp i decided to stop worrying and learn to love the junk shop glitch

i am, once again, extremely grateful for how quickly this game loads

Tanzer wasn't as hard as I thought it would be, but the bosses in the other rune quest dungeons are no joke. I still haven't beaten the zombie dragon in Mu's Tomb. Also, all these dungeons are really confusing even with the icons marking exits and stuff. I have no idea how I found my way through them without those icons back in the day. Dodging enemies is harder than I remembered, too.

BabelCrumble is called Collapse now. Not nearly as cool, but on the plus side Liza got it and the other ones and now it's DSC time baybee.

Emilia fought many battles in the Pink Tiger costume that's supposed to make her spark moves like Liza, but didn't get a single DSC move.

I got Thunder and turned him into a Triceratops with great stats pretty early and without putting any particular effort into it. The new UI for monster skills makes them a lot less annoying to use, and they can definitely be powerful. I'm actually kinda looking forward to playing as Riki now, which isn't something I thought I'd ever say.

Oh, is there an auto-run option in this game? The RS3 remaster had it, so it would be weird if this one didn't, but I couldn't find it in the menu.

the triceratops is definitely a godlike early and midgame monster, and one that very much defies the common expectation that a monster is probably the weakest member of the party if you're using one. (which, as a huge monster fan, i'd certainly agree with; i just don't think it's that important and the benefits of having one (doesn't take equipment away from gear-dependent party members like mecs or dual-wielders, lots of moves with good combo options and debuffs, effectively infinite WP) outweigh it by far)

This game is very wild. Playing Emelias scenario, I barely know what's going on most the time, other than I'm looking for some clown. Highlights so far:
- every mission seems to be an excuse to give me a new outfit, which is fun.
- ran across some sort of... haunted clinic?? while exploring. You can go in the waiting room, see a guys head fall off and laugh at you, and then when you're admitted to the doctor, he tells you to lie on the operating table, but Emelia just gets scared and runs. And you can also repeat this as many times as you want. It doesnt seem to do anything? What the fuck?
- In the town, theres just a straight up boar walking around and talking like a normal NPC.
- there was a guy looking at another NPC across a gap in the floor who had a bowl of fruit on their head, and the guy was saying "I'd really like to get a piece of that fruit" or something. When I solved the thing to make the gap crossable, he said "now my dreams have come to fruition" which I thought was just delightful.

It's not just in Emelia's scenario.

Spoilering this in case anybody would prefer to see it in its proper in-game context.

Are the body part icons new? Because those definitely help a ton.

I came to enjoy the monster system the last time I played this game. There’s a looseness to it that’s strangely satisfying. It strikes a good balance of feeling like pure chaos while giving you just enough control to still feel like you’re developing a character.

The game still needs a little more documentation on how they work, though.
