I have been playing the Mega Man X series lately via the collections. I’ve shuffled some of my ranking, and I like the series overall a little more than I did, but it’s still kind of a hot mess, absolutely all over the place. X2 isn’t as bad as I remember, and beating X7 for the first time was an interesting experience - it’s awful, but it cleans up surprisingly nicely for the collection and it’s leagues breezier than the atrocity that is X6.

X5 went down in my estimations. I still like the nihilism of it all (even if you do everything right you can still fail, and that’s very interesting) but it’s a miserable game to actually play. The boss refights with their enormous level 99 health bars have to be a low point for the franchise as a whole.

X2 really doesn't get enough credit. It's got like, Symphony of the Night levels of weird little interactions going on.
And I don't think this is even showing off all the odd little one-off weapon/boss interactions that if I recall carried over from X1 if you stray from just using everyone's weakpoint exclusively.

Plus the whole "keep previous armor upgrades and get new ones too" bit really only feels like it works in this one game, where you have the dash in particular from the start like you really just should, but we're not yet having to just keep coming up with more eleborate movement tech and ever-chunkier armor spikes yet.

Just watched the first 43 seconds, and that seems like a fun video to relax to, so I saved it for later. Thanks!

The premise of each franchise really isn't as different as they appear at first blush, now that I think about it.

I just traded a bunch of games in for a boxed copy of MM2, something I would never have paid out-of-pocket for, but it feels good to have in my collection. As I slim down and focus more on meaningful stuff instead of just MORE stuff, that's one I've been wanting to have a real cart, really complete, on the shelf.

I really need to consider doing this myself. I have a lot of games, but many of them don't necessarily hold a ton of appeal in having them. I'd love to snag a copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga, and it feels like, for instance, unloading my Saturn version of Mega Man 8 would get me a decent chunk of the way there. (I have the PSX version, too, and the extra content probably doesn't justify the price difference.)

Also, fantastic choice of game for a complete copy.

Nice! I think mine lacks a box. I was just thinking about getting some replacement boxes for some of mine earlier...

Incidentally, I was also thinking I'd love to get some of these for my Wii U GamePad, since the sticks have degraded into something gross-feeling, but I can't find any locally, and the cost of shipping is a bit of a turn-off.

I came upon a CIB, unopened copy of MM2 back in '95 or so at a local flea market. Naturally, I picked it up-- and somewhere along the way, lost it. I know I had it when I lived in Arkansas but it's been a good 15 years since then, and I have no clue where it may have gone off to. It's particularly frustrating because I keep all of my videogame bits and bobs in order and MM2 is just gone. Blinked out of existence. It's either in a larger box I never open - possible - or someone made off with it. I do have the 30th anniversary iam8bit legacy box but it doesn't feel the same.
