If there were an iOS demo I'd check it out, boo.
It is strange that there isn't.

if it helps, the iOS and Android versions (why not Steam? I 'unno) are both 34% off until January 21st, making them $19.90 instead of the usual $29.99.

Incidentally, madhair, as long as you’re here, have you played the demo for Berserk Boy through Steam’s Next Fest? It’s sort of Mega Man with a dash of Sonic (pun intended) and a very Genesis/Mega Drive kind of presentation. It made me think of you.

There's always gifting! Or just convenience? Modding?

I dunno. I have them on Switch, Xbox (twice), and some on PS4 and thereabouts, but I don't have them on Steam, so... *shrugs*

Just started playing it for review last night.

Honestly I don't have half of these in any form and the other form I mostly just have for like, the PS2 and switch?

While yes, comic exaggeration, even I own more than half of them, and in 25 years of owning at least one I've not beaten any oops

Replayed Mega Man 1. Whenever I come back to it, I find it pretty easy to relearn Yellow Devil, but that Bomb-->Fire-->Ice-->Guts boss rush with no health refills between in the final level always takes a while to adjust to for me. In particular, I have trouble consistently avoiding damage from Fire Man and Guts Man. I think this is the most challenging sequence in all of the NES era Mega Man games.

I do Cut Man, then Elec Man twice to grab the magnet beam, Ice Man, Fire Man, Bomb Man, and finally Guts Man. Because eff doing those blocks and platforms in Ice and Guts's stages without the magnet beam.

That's the OG order for sure but over the past few years I usually go Bomb, Guts, Cut, Elec, Ice, Fire.

Fire Man is a bit easier when you realize that he reads your inputs and fires fire when you press fire. He can still be quite tricky though.

Yeah, being aware of that and remembering to try to time things out so you have room to jump forward over his fire shots when you shoot made the difference for me. With Guts Man, my problem is just that I find the timing to avoid being made immobile after he lands from a jump is a smidge too unforgiving. Also he comes last so I don't think I've ever really learned it properly. Wily is a pushover by comparison to that boss rush, so they always feel like the real final boss to me.

I forgot to reply to this. I have played this and it’s great

The way saving and especially loading is implemented for the traditionally password only games in the Mega Man X collection feels like a kludgy romhack. There probably should have been at least a tool tips pop up or something explaining this. I bet the majority of people who played this collection thought they lost their save the first time they started their second play session.

What happens? I haven't played it to that extent, at least since it came out.

The first Mega Man collection basically had one save state. In the meta-menu, you could save and load anywhere, anytime.

In the first Mega Man X collection, saving is linked to the old password system. This doesn't really matter for saving, because it auto-saves. You can also manually save at the password screen, but my guess is that's a totally extraneous ability added to ease players' minds. Presumably that's where it's also auto-saving, I would guess. This is kind of awkward and confusing compared to the Mega Man Legacy collection, but at least it's clear that it's happening.

What's a little confusing is that it doesn't automatically load up or a previous save, or even ask if you want to load up a previous save once you start a new game. Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 by default let you start any game by either selecting New Game or Continue, which would let you immediately start from a previous save. In Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1, the way to load a save is to go to the password screen from the title screen once you launch the game. It's also not a true suspend save, but basically just saves your most recent password.

This is technically accurate to the original experience of playing the game, but I think it could have used a little more explanation. There is already a tool tip about saves, but it just tells you something like, "This game auto-saves. Don't turn the game off when you see this symbol." I think confusion about loading could have been mitigated by just adding one sentence letting you know that you can load saves by selecting Password from the title screen. I figured it out by exhausting all the possible options on the collections meta-menu and the in-game menu, but a quick Google search shows a lot of people couldn't figure it out. Ideally, it should have also kept MMLC1's option to immediately start a new game by continuing a previous save. It's functional but not a very elegant solution for an official compilation.

Sheesh. What a headache.

I forget if any of the games support save states or rewinding there, though I'm thinking not.
