The Final Fantasy series has iconic music - but what about the other part of the sound experience provided by the games? What are some of your favorite sound effects from the games?

Correct. Thread over.
Those are pretty good but I do have a few others.

The "cackling Reaper" sound effect of the Doom / Death spells.

The sound effect for Flare / Nuke - both the regular and the Mega varieties.

That tching sound made by specific weapons in Final Fantasy 6 when they block an enemy attack.

I always loved the sound of the spells Bolt 2 and Bolt 3 in FFVI. They’re both lightning strikes, but they’re really distinct sonically. Bolt 2 has sort of a synthy-sounding crackle, and Bolt 3 has this huge *THOOM*.

Most of FFVII's soundscape is indelibly burned into my brain. Not all, but a lot of this kind of thing is probably going to be "what were you exposed to at a formative age" but it would be shortsighted to chalk it up to just impressionable minds. There's a MIDI artificiality and harshness (even the organic sounds constructed) that's in turn offset by a gentle digitized clarity to the SFX work, coherently communicating the game's larger ethos via sound design and aesthetic.

FFVI has this slight echo on its sound effects that makes them sound really cool and otherworldly. Blizzara/Ice 2 (tinktink tinktink tinktink kaCHUNK) was the first one I thought of when seeing the thread title, but there are lots of good ones. Bio Blaster (GREEEeeEEeeEE) and Ultima (uuuuuuUUUUUUUUing) are favorites as well.

I'm glad they were wise enough to bring back/remaster Bio's "beedle-eedle-eeee" sound effect in the Pixel Remasters. Kinda like with Hyper Beam and Psychic in the Pokemon games.

I've also always been partial to the sound that Cecil's holy swords make in combat.

Honestly, the first thing that comes to mind is the sound of the pointing gloved hand cursor moving and selecting. That tinkling sound just feels so iconic to me.

The FWOOOOSH of Ultima in FF6 is another good one.
