Forgot to post when it happened but this is the best breakdown/analysis/Q&A of the network test I've found, very informative

Originally I thought Elden Ring was going to be PS5/whatever the current Xbox is called exclusive. I realized it was coming to PS4 a while ago, but still didn't really tune into it until about last week. And now, I'm extremely excited about it. And honestly, this is kind of ideal, since I only have a week to go at this point. I don't think I'm going to have the free time to pour into this game that I did with previous Souls stuff, but I'll find the time here and there. And it really looks incredible. Based on stuff from the Network Test and previews, it sounds like a best of Dark Souls (power stance is back!), plus jumping from Sekiro and a horse/goat for mounted combat. There are a ton of little dungeons and a few really big ones. Overall the world looks more dense than sprawling, which sounds right to me. I remember first reading previews for Dark Souls that mentioned it was more open and interconnected, and Elden Ring is basically what I had imagined.

I'm planning to start as a Bandit, for the light armor and short bow. I think I'm going to go mostly dex and lean in to some light faith and int. Maybe just enough faith for some pyromancy? I'm open to going another direction if I find a sword or spell that looks really cool.

My plan is to play this on PC, though they released the PC system requirements the other day and the official minimum requirements are surprisingly high for a game that's also releasing on last-gen consoles:

I built a new PC late last year that meets most of the recommended specs, but the video card market is so awful right now that I'm still using a relatively ancient GTX 970... hopefully the minimum requirements are a little inflated and it will run fine.

I'm planning to start as a Vagabond, because I pretty much always start as the Knight class. I'll probably focus on a 'quality' build and maybe dabble in a bit of magic at the expense of my health.

From pulled the specs and put "TBD", so I'm guessing 16gb RAM was supposed to be recommended instead of minimum. Even Half-Life Alyx is 12 minimum and I've heard you can get it running on an 8GB computer, so it's highly unlikely you won't be able to run Elden Ring with 8GB.

Knowing the class stats & equipment isn’t really a spoiler. You can change everything within the first few hours anyway when you get some levels & new loot.

There are real spoilers out there, though. The game is out in the wild & people are posting videos & images of everything. Be careful, everyone.

I wasn't planning on buying this anytime soon because I'm mostly trying not to buy new games because there are so many cheap old games I want to play and would enjoy just as much or more, but my husband got me a pre-order for Christmas, which honestly was in the perfect present sweet spot of "wouldn't buy for myself" but "definitely do want."

Not sure if I'll actually have time to really play it seriously right after release, but I'll probably at least dabble.

The later unpulled them, and yes 12GB is the minimum.

Also FYI here's the best resource I've seen on the classes. I think it's an image from the official guide. In some cases it gives slightly more information than might be clear from the character creation UI, but nothing that would probably be surprising if you've played previous Demon's and Dark Souls games.

I love the design of the pure and hybrid magic classes here, but probably for a first playthrough I mostly want to hit things really hard and have just enough Dex to use a bow situationally.

I watched a stream a few days ago, with some guy dicking around in the final build of the game for a few hours. Showed off the character creator and then he messed around for about 2 hours, just poking his head into stuff. So looking forward to this game.

I'm gonna be real upset if my copy doesn't arrive on Friday like it's supposed to. (I mean, within reason, but you know.)

The launch trailer is out. It does show some bosses and later areas, so watch out if you’re avoiding all spoilers.

I wasn't actually feeling the hype to play this on launch until just a few days ago but now it's completely ruining my interest in other things during my free time

My copy of Horizon Forbidden West was delayed in shipping so I switched to in-store pickup for this one. Desperate times, desperate measures, etc.

I saw this discussed elsewhere as being too dangerously full of spoilers to watch, but personally as someone not paying close attention I already remember nothing from this trailer and have no impression beyond, "Yes, this looks like an open world Dark Souls game, I would like to play it."

That being said, I think the closest thing to a real spoiler in terms of "oh i didn't expect that" in the the trailer is the thumbnail so uh if you are very spoiler sensitive good luck avoiding youtube and presumably any website with embedded video ads until you've beaten elden ring i guess

Yeah, I put it behind a spoilerpop because of the thumbnail.

To me, watching someone play through a large part of a dungeon would be a spoiler. Or revealing some huge twist. I've never considered Souls trailers with quick flashes of boss designs or a wide shot of a landscape to be spoilery. But, everyone is different and I don't want to ruin anyone else's experience.

At this point I don't need to know anything else at all about this game before I start playing it, as my excitement cannot get any higher, so looking at any info or pre-release stuff can only have a negative effect.

It’s been almost six years since Dark Souls III, and I consider Sekiro at least a third Tenchu, so it’s been a while since there’s been one of these games. I’m ready.

My only concerns are issues brought on by the greatly enhanced scope of the world, and how much COVID has affected everything.

I don't understand the argument that Sekiro isn't a Souls but I've seen it a lot lately.

Sekiro is the only one I've not played but I'd imagine its emphasis on stealth and the inability to modify/upgrade your character at all make it a different enough experience from all the others that it could be considered more of an outlier.

Sekiro differs from what I would consider a "Souls-like" in a lot of ways.

-The story features a fixed character with their own storyline
-No real character building
-Very different combat
-No stamina meter
-No main weapon variety
-No bloodstain recovery mechanic

It definitely has some elements in common, but not enough that I would consider it part of the same "genre".
