Oh, that particular quest is definitely not gracefully written. I was just surprised they went there at all.

I think that twitter thread is only half-right about how the game handles traffic. It's clear that they have very little AI. Maybe it's platform related (I'm playing on PC), but it definitely does not despawn stopped vehicles if you look away, though. I've parked just off the street and done entire side gigs nearby only to return to the exact same stopped vehicles 10 minutes later. This is... not necessarily preferable.

I want you to know that I really appreciate your posts in this thread. Please keep updating us. I especially would like to hear how they handle the trans bartender’s side quests.

For anyone interested in more commentary on the experience of playing the game itself, I think the two most thoughtful approaches I've seen are the Carolyn Petit review shared on the first page of this thread and more recently Austin Walker, Gita Jackson, and Cado's discussion of the game on episode 367 of Waypoint Radio. (The timestamp in the episode description is wrong, it actually starts around 1:07:30.)

Wow.

Sony is offering full refunds for anyone who bought the game on PSN and is removing the game from their store.

i guess you probably shouldn't sell early access titles at full price, especially if you're just trying to rush it out in time to trick folks into buying it for The Holidays

I think you can still safely sell AAA open world games full of bugs at full price. This will absolutely continue to happen.

You just can't tell everyone they should ask Microsoft, Sony, and Gamestop for refunds afterwards. (Or at least, not Sony, but I wonder if others might follow suit now that the door is open...)

Well I'm guessing that's not the response they wanted when they said everyone could get a refund this week. Oops!

I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes, but the fact that this statement was done by Sony alone and CDPR has yet to say something themselves makes me wonder if Sony did this without their knowledge, or at least without their blessing. Sony was probably upset when CDPR suddenly sent hordes of refund requests their way.

Is there any kind of contract between a a publisher like CDPR, and a digital storefront that also happens to belong to the platform owner? Because, I mean, technically, the PSN Store is a store like any other--if GOG can pull a game from shelves for (ahem) political reasons, or if GameStop or Amazon stop stocking a particular title, I don't think there's much that a publisher or manufacturer can do about it. And it's not like Sony is pulling disc copies of CP77 from physical retail. But I don't know if there's any additional relationships or obligations between a publisher and the owner of both the hardware platform, and the digital service for said platform.

I think that there have definitely been games that have been just as broken at release and remained available. This probably wouldn't have happened if CDPR hadn't told people to ask for refunds without any kind of plan in place. It's this mishandling of this is hilarious.

Thanks for this, I will.

Publishers often do have deals with storefronts - timed exclusives, unique promotional items, services like PS plus or Gamepass - but it doesn't seem like there was anything like that here.

I actually have no problem with full price for Early Access, especially when it's to help fund the studio. And it's often a good idea to limit the player pool in EA, since smaller developers can be overwhelmed with too big a player pool giving feedback.

The thing is, you actually have to be honest and say your game is in early access. Klepek just tweeted this, and I agree - imagine if Cyberpunk had launched saying "we're gonna do a year of early access, listen to feedback and launch 1.0 next holiday". It would be a very different situation.

"Haha, these bugs are fun! It's too bad they'll be gone in the finished game, but there's a lot of potential for it to be something great. We hope they also listen to our feedback for all the problematic issues in quests and dialogue, and that they tone down that Pokemon strobe light scene."

(And then we'd have a year of Gamers calling people SJWs for this feedback and CDPR would likely try to satisfy both camps but eh, they're not gonna do anything about it now anyway.)

Another developer asked whether CD Projekt’s directors felt it was hypocritical to make a game about corporate exploitation while expecting that their employees work overtime. The response was vague and noncommital.
