Prey spoilers

It takes place in a simulation, a cyber simulation. The mimics are jerks, punks even. Ergo. Vis-a-vis. Case dismissed.

Also, I wore a tophat and goggles while I was playing it.

Nope, leaving that in. That's definitely a cyberpunk affectation jp.

When deciding whether I should boycott a company in the game industry, I hold them to a very very low bar:

Has anyone in the management of this company personally endangered myself or someone I care about?

As such, I will never be giving any money to CDPR, Riot, or Stardock.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is more cyber and punk than this game could ever be if anyone's itching for actually effective explorations of the genre's thematics in this medium.
Playing this right now and I'm having a blast. Not to mention I put the game in sleep mode one time and came back to two farms of level 99 digimon somehow.

Does Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes count as cyberpunk? Because if so I'd put that up as my recommendation.

I'm hoping you just weren't aware of all the exploitative and transphobic shit the publisher has engaged in. No one should play this game.
People should pirate it eventually to see what all the fuss was about, instead of paying money for it.

All the fuss is about the publisher throwing around wheelbarrows of ad money for something like a year.

Indeed, their laudable anti-DRM stance makes their shitty transphobic game extremely easy to pirate. It's that or hand £60 to GamerGate-supporting bigots. :) Your call, folks :)

The other option, seriously, is to just not buy a game that looks really bad made by nazis where you play a "cyberpunk" helping out the local police and spend your time and money on things that are actually good but harder to remember because they don't have powerhouse marketing behind them.

Offhand, Subnautica 2 is 99.99% finished and at least has you working to take down a big powerful corporation by hacking things here and there.

its astounding that a game delayed this many times is still this comically unfinished. well done to the management at cdpr

All I will say about this mess is that I was watching the Giant Bomb Quicklook and Jeff pointed out that the word "Kevlar" was trademarked in the subtitles. There are much, much bigger issues with the game, but that stuck out to me.

So that game I kept seeing Keanu Reeves posing for what felt like forever was this POS?

One reason I didn't know because "Cyberpunk" is such a generic thing to name your game.
It would be like saying "what is this game are you going to be in?"
"RPG"
"I know it's an RPG, but what's the name of it?"
"RPG"
"Do you mean Role Playing Game, or Rocket Propelled Grenade?"
"It's a RPG in RPG form"

It is... and my guess is that's something he's regretting/will come to regret what with moral values and all.

Gaming Replicant!
It's an adaptation of Mike Pondsmith's TRPG named Cyberpunk from 1988.

It was a better name three decades ago. One tipoff for this is that the 2nd edition of the TRPG was called Cyberpunk 2020.
Yeah, cyberpunk was still a relatively new genre at this time, only existing for a decade or so. You could get away with calling it that because most people didn't have a clue what it was back then.

Which is also why insisting on naming it "Cyberpunk" today caused CDPR to copyright the word. Haha, no, I will not let that go.

Cyberpunk actually refers to a genre inspired by two specific games, Cybervania and Punktroid.

OK, but seriously, I would buy Cybervania on Switch so fast
