Contras, Probotectors, and the legacy of war

That's pretty neat. There's quite a lot of strategic holding off in the boss design here: with the stage 3 boss's arms, and both of the person-sized midbosses.
You might say it's a better way to vary up "just hold down shoot" than overheating weapons that stop working.

I tried Arcade Mode, and after a few tries I completed a Normal run in a single continue. I did buy some extra lives in the Perk Store, so I had a fair bit of handicaps. I did score over 350,000 points, which I suppose is worth an achievement?

I've been focusing more on shorts and Tiktoks featuring Roger than my normal long-form videos, and today is Modern Monday, so...

On YouTube earlier, an ad for some type of Dove Men's Plus (or something) soap came up, and they recited the Konami Code in it.

I wish I could share it here, but strangely, it seems like the last place you can find ads that run on YouTube in a shareable format is YouTube.

You know, it's only fair if you also "ruin" Bloodstained Classic 2 later this year.

Cater to both of your interests, you see.
That (and a good sale) are what made me finally grab it for my Xbox. =)

I mean, not that I wasn't interested already, but that was definitely a tipping point.

ICYMI:

Btw, @Tomm Guycot : If that expansion is out by October, we might even give it a good look around Halloween time. I don't think we've settled on what we're doing for the month this year. ;)

I won’t lie… at least once a week I check to see if there’s an update for that game *just in case* it dropped and I missed it being announced

It is baffling to me that @Tomm Guycot still gets hate around Silent Hill. One of the first comments on my OG short above was "Tom Hewlet [sic], the guy who ruined Silent Hill?"

I guess they need a scapegoat to this day.

Sorry, I just was playing some more and had to quit out because my controller was being wonky and... loading a save makes me lose my weapons?! I had them when I finished the previous stage, quit out, loaded the stage again, and back to double pea-shooter. Is that by design or a bug?

The worst fans are stupid and petty and it's far easier for them to point fingers at one person for the problems facing their Beloved Thing than it is for them to process that there are multiple factors in play. Factors like deadlines and not having the proper masters and Konami being a pretty terrible company.

Granted, Konami was nice enough to let this new Contra happen, but they destroyed a lot of good will in the 2010s.

Sounds like a weird bug. We were finding logic errors in this system down to the wire there's another patch upcoming that might have fixed this?

OOC were you in story or arcade?

RE: Silent Hill
You think that's wild, try watching an entire video of someone RAVING about your game as they play it, then getting to the credits, seeing your name, and saying ah well overall this game was mid and skippable.

(Not Contra - Goosebumps - but still)

Story.

And the Goosebumps thing is wild. These people need a hobby.

Man, Ice Train is kicking my ass. I get to the boss each time, but my lives are usually worn down by the time I get there. Opening segment is brutal, and other times on the way, I just can't even keep track of what's hitting me while I'm trying to avoid and shoot everything else.

Any advice? Or else I might have to kick it down a notch, if this keeps up.

Also a little bummed to find that if you select an earlier part of story mode, you can't use the characters you've already unlocked there. I wanted to practice Lucia in Stage 1 without erasing my Arcade Mode progress.

Still having a blast with it, just some road bumps here.

If you're not equipping perks or using Overloads - do those things.

If you are, uh... >_>

EDIT: I haven't seen your full stream yet but I did click around and it seemed like you weren't holding the R trigger to stand in place and shoot without moving. If that's the case, that's a big strategic thing

Silly question, how do you input the Konami Code on a Playstation controller? Are A and B X and O, or vice versa?
Up up, down down, left right, left right, shoot jump

Yes this means we programmed 4 different inputs for the Konami code, based on platform. I implied I was on my bullshit this entire project and I was certainly on my bullshit

Definitely am.

Maybe there are better ones I should be using? I'm mainly using Bill with Bill's Spirit and two extra hit points, the latter of which are probably why I keep making it to the end by the skin of my teeth.

Overloads, a little less so. I try to use them before I lose my last bit of health, but I'm not always successful.

I do when I can/need to, all the way back to Contra III. At the start of this level, it doesn't seem to help, though, as the guys down below seem to be moving just out of range.

In fact, it seems like staying still for too long most of the time invites trouble... this stage is BUSY.

But I definitely use it where I can. Particularly on Gordea when he's doing his thing on top of the trains.

...uh, does shooting him there count towards when he comes down to fight you? Or am I just wasting my time trying to get extra hits in?

Overload heal is my personal go-to. There are plenty of weapons so it's easy to grab one when you're in trouble and convert it to health (little harder to do in an autoscroll if you're trying to keep your current weapons).

Gordea jumps down once you've dealt a set amount of damage so definitely punish him asap.

...well, don't I feel like an idiot.

Somewhere along the way, I wound up with the impression that continuing sent you back to the start of the stage. Since then, I'd give the stage a shot, then exit out when it didn't work out.

This time, hit continue... and it put me near the end. Yeah, I was more than able to beat it this time, without even having to switch my loadout of perks. I wish I'd known sooner! (And wish I could remember what happened the last time that sent me back to zero when I tried...)

Anyway, stage completed. I was hoping this one would unlock Ironside, but alas.

Also, TIL that going back to an earlier stage in Story Mode and completing it with special weapons allows you to take those into the start of a later level. I wonder what else carries over... and if there's a good spot to try the "car trick" from Contra III...

Aside: I'm a little surprised the Probotectors aren't unlocked yet. Or are they not usable in Story Mode?

Saw the tweet about LRG preorders for the game lasting until Sunday. I sadly can't afford the big box super edition, but it does leave me wondering if the included figures are the same as the ones I linked to previously.
