Contras, Probotectors, and the legacy of war

"Flying choppers"?

Ah, forgot/missed they were Japanese.

Hm, might make things tricky there, then.

In other news, just caught this video of Maximilian Dood and three friends playing 4-player arcade mode. I don't know if I'll ever get to play that, so I thought I'd see what it's like:

Yooooo, I did not know you could grab a teammate's leg while they're hanging and hang off of it. I want to see where that comes in handy!

The end of the trailer made me think Castlevania was coming, but it was even more near and dear to my heart

I was curious how I'd do in the one-hit kill mode of Operation Galuga, and was surprised to see that the regular enemies retain their full health bars in the process.

I didn't fare too well there as a result. XD

Weren't most enemies-- some exceptions, like the guy's laying on the ground behind cover, sure -- one hit kills in the original games? Like the snipers and riflemen? I was kind of interested in seeing how I would do in that situation by comparison, if they and I largely died in one shot.

FWIW, I thought the extra durable enemies were awkward. It's particularly bad with 8-way aiming. With one hit kills and 8-way, there were sections of the final stretch where I think you're better off just using overload to skip past them.

Most enemies taking three to five shots threw me off a number of times. I can only assume it’s to balance having multiple people shooting up the screen, but it sucks in single player.

Is it really a bump in difficulty if the enemies get nerfed when you do?
I don't know if I'd say it's a bump -- there are difficulty levels for that, after all -- but more of a different kind of difficulty?

I mean, you're still dead in one hit instead of three or more.

It's just something I'm curious to try.

As others have noted, it throws me off on occasion, too, when I don't remember regular stage enemies won't die in one hit. Doesn't happen often, but occasionally muscle memory seeps back in, I guess.

Yeah, I get that. Also, I think the more different difficulty levers the player can pull, the better.

Fewer enemies in Contra were 1-hit than you remember.

But part of it is to balance the insane rate of fire on all your weapons compared to the originals.

Yeah, that makes sense. The NES could only have so many projectiles on screen and trying to rapid-fire the Spread usually makes it shoot way fewer bullets in the NES game.

So a massive patch has gone live on most platforms / will shortly go live on Switch. We fix a ton of bugs and weird things that weren't showing up properly ingame and had been driving me insane. Like 60+ things. enjoy.
