Contras, Probotectors, and the legacy of war

I need to get back and finish that game. I'm at the last level.

Then life became a gauntlet match that it feels like I'm coming out on the losing end of. x_X

Oh, wait, it looks like it's maybe not the soundtrack? Just when it's a level 2 Overload? Or it also does it with the Castlevania soundtrack?

Also, I clearly haven't unlocked "Konami Code," which I assume is a perk that comes after everything else?
Oh you're right. It's the L2 unless you are using Konami Code.

No, you have to do something special to make the Perk appear for sale. You'll never guess what.

Hey wait a minute. The dog tag in Contra Shattered Soldier says Lance is AB+. That pic says his blood is A.
Happy birthday anyways!
I liked it how he had two green guns in Contra III.

I was playing last night and had an idea. @Tomm Guycot I don't know what you're working on, if there's any plan for any kind of update or DLC (or maybe even if it's in the game, since I haven't 100%'d the achievements yet), but a perk that let you do a Gradius-series thing and let you pick your weapon loadout, no matter who you're playing as, would be dope as hell. Like, if I want to have Stanley's backwards machine gun AND Lucia's charge-shot spread, I can have both! While playing as Lance!

I like it.

Had anyone else discovered this fun Easter Egg?

If you're listening to the Classic Konami soundtrack, and you use the Overload for the Homing Missile the drones turn into pixel art Vic Vipers. I haven't seen anything else like this, but I'm definitely curious now.

Overloading Fang's F power-up does a similar thing: the fire dragon from Salamander chases enemies down. Pretty fun!

I will say that I was surprised that there was no eventual "custom Contra" option that would allow you to mix and match. Playing as that spoilered character from the previous post who has all the alternate weapons confirmed there are some neat places where those unique weapons work wonderfully... but some feel like a death sentence depending on the stage. It would be cool just for fudgin' around purposes to have the expanded toolkit available and customizable by stage.

Also, while I'm asking for the moon, the ability to have (say) machine gun in one hand, and alternate machine gun in the other would be rad.

Quick Addendum: It occurs to me that my dream "this might be crazy" combination would be flamethrower + alternate flamethrower. Feel like that would be almost a sword/shield melee version of Contra.

Or just cut to the chase, and include either Jaguar or
Beowulf
.

Finally got this. Loving it. Busting through Arcade on increasing difficulty.

I have a question about lore though!

Oh and double crush is baller

Lore you say?
Yes!

So I didn't pay attention to story until Hard Corps and Shattered Soldier.
Been a minute, but in Shattered, the Triumvirate had located a thing in Jupiter or whatever that drew the attention or ire of the aliens. Like basically it was stolen. Now in Operation Galuga (OG?) we have an opposite situation with the Lemris. This is all a big roundabout way to ask if the new game is a full reboot, or a creative retelling of pt1?

It is more or less a full reboot.

Surprise (happy 1 year anniversary)

Saw this video from GDQ earlier:

Also, a familiar name donates!

I really gotta go back and finish that game. I was so close, but ran out of lives, and just never got back to it. I may just kick the difficulty down a notch, just to see the rest of story mode.

I hope it did well in sales and whatnot, because it was really good, and I'd love to see what they bring out for Super C/ontra.

I wonder if that is what Contra is now. A niche title like Ghosts n Goblins.

Probably a lot of Talking Time users played NES Contras, SNES Contra and Genesis Contra. There is a nostalgia there for TT users.

I have to wonder if younger players even know what Contra is or remember Konami fondly.

I thought Hard Corps Uprising was amazing. I don't recall it breaking over into mainstream gaming culture.

Are there modern examples of run and gun games doing well sales wise?

I thought Operation Galuga was okay. The gameplay was solid and fun, but the presentation was lacking compared to something like Contra 4. It looked like a budget title, which led a lot of people to ignore it.

At least there was a new Contra game. Castlevania is still missing like the Belmont clan post SotN, aside from collections.

It certainly did not : /

As noted above, sad and heartbroken on that one. I loved it.

Haven't beaten it yet, got within a hair's breadth of it before other things took over my time, but I loved it.

I remember wondering at the time what was left to mine if you guys did a sequel, since so much from the sequels was incorporated here, but I guess now I'm glad that you went for broke.

The lesson I learned on Contra 4 was "never save it for the sequel - the sequel is not guaranteed"*

*(Except in the case of Bloodstained: Classic Mode. I knew we were doing Classic 2 and made some decisions accordingly)

Good lesson, I have to say. Hope Capcom learned it if they ever venture outside of Classic again.

Wrote MMLegends Timelines with that in mind, too.
